The meal I ate here was one of the most incredible I’ve ever eaten! From start to finish , the experience was fantastic. Each bite was delicious, and meal took us to the oceans, fields and mountains. Each dish was explained with care, and it was easy to understand that the chef had put much thought into the entire experience. We liked it so much, we plan to go again next month. I really cannot wait! Thanks for the great meal. 😎👍🏼

Everything about Kakyo is 5-stars. It's easy to tell a lot of care, attention, effort, and passion went into every facet of this dining experience. We stumbled upon Kakyo while looking for a French / Japanese dining connection, and we found it. The Omakase was delicious and cohesive from start to finish. We were so engrossed in the meal that we missed taking photos of half of our dishes. Also, very accommodating to dietary restrictions. My partner couldn't eat the Wagyu dish, and the chef had no issue swapping it out for snapper. A sleeper hit for sure.

The food was so amazing that I couldn't even bring myself to take photos. It's the kind of meal where you want to sit and contemplate every dish, every morsel, every moment. I can't say enough about how balanced the flavors were, how every followed on from the previous one in a perfect cadence. The sake and wine pairing was phenomenal, with some of the most complex and delicious sakes white wines that I've been lucky enough to try. And all this at a price that actually feels reasonable when all is said and done. Worth making a trip within Kyoto for. Don't miss it!

Delicious ornate dishes, beautifully presented on a variety of cutlery. From the beef dish to the bread and butter dish, the flavours were interesting. The chef was skillful, engaging and kind. Really glad to have found this restaurant.

Our new favourite in Kyoto. Kakyo's kaiseki is excellent; it loses nothing of the authentic Japanese ingredients and flavours but has enough French influence to make it a little more accessible and demonstrate the skill of the kitchen in every sauce. The lunch course in particular is extraordinarily good value - kaiseki of this quality cannot usually be had for such a reasonable price. I recommend it especially to visitors to Japan - the sort of ryokan where you might have a comparable meal can be difficult to fit into an itinerary (and are increasingly difficult to book at all). Kakyo by comparison is around the corner from shrines and temples you will certainly be visiting anyway, gives you the opportunity of sneaking in a weekday lunch booking and gives the perfect introduction to kaiseki cuisine.

If you are ever in Kyoto, you have to come here! We had a fantastic 10 course dinner with very well paired alcohol (sake and wine), that was totally delicious, innovative, beautiful arranged and made from locally sourced ingrediences. The meal wasn't cheap, but for what we got it was very reasonably priced. We were seated at the bar and could therefore watch the chef and his employee prepare the dishes and ask questions. The atmosphere was very nice, the chef and his employee chatted with us and treated us very nicely. It was hands down the best meal in our life and would recommend it to anyone who would like to have a special dinner with kaiseki cuisine. Staff speaks limited English but gave their best, so communication was no problem!

Outstanding in every way. The sequence of dishes was exquisite. Many restaurants make the mistake of wowing you for the first few bites, but the result is so brash you don't feel like finishing. Here, you just keep discovering new flavors and textures, all of them delightful, none of them cloying. This variety extends to the service ware: while you are eating, look around and enjoy the different plates and bowls of your companions. The service was excellent too. To me, the mark of fine service is that it doesn't obtrude on your conversation. The service here wasn't fussy and didn't make any of our party feel self-conscious; it was friendly, but not chatty -- exactly what you want when you are sharing a meal with friends. The chef has worked very hard to create this experience and train his staff. That's no guarantee of success, but in this case the result is extraordinary. My only regrets were that my limited Japanese prevented me from articulating my joy to him at the end of the meal, and that I probably won't be able to get a reservation the next time I am in Kyoto, if this restaurant succeeds as it deserves to.

Wonderful dishes and service. Excellent in every aspect and definitely would love to revisit again. The dishes come with seasonal ingredients and looks, taste delicately with Japanese fusion style. Highly recommended

Glorious. Better than some places with 3 Michelin stars, in my opinion. The wine and sake pairing is worth it.

A very special little place i was lucky enough to try out after a very intense morning at a conference. Needing a bit of peace and tranquility, it couldn't have been any better. Great flavours, amazing textures a stunning room where everything has its place and is placed perfectly; from shelves of beautiful glasses to the staub pots and even the coffee grinder. But what made it special was the talent and quiet effectiveness of the Chef and his team as the courses are prepared in front of you. Sit at the counter if you can. If you are staying at the Westin Miyako it is 5 minutes down the hill and you would be mad to miss it. Enjoy.
