    - Really delicious ! The meat tastes great, and you can cook it yourserlf to your liking. There are different very tasty sauces to complement. I recommend the double portion, felt like a really nice quantity for a good price. - I had no waiting time - You can pay by card at this restaurant (which is always nice, I hate cash.) - And the mochi !! Those were my favorite side dish.

I came for my pre-birthday cocktail night and highly recommend this place. This place is first reached and first served, and they tend to be busy, especially during the weekend. When I came here the first time, I went with a group of people simultaneously, so I waited about 25 minutes before I got in, where I ordered a couple of cocktail drinks to celebrate another blessed year. It is located in a corner, hidden away from the busy street. I highly recommend this bar to anyone who is in the Shibuya area. This is your place if you want a Gatsby vibe with great drinks.

The staff was very nice but the actual food was terrible, very chewy and did not even taste like meat. Inside was also really smoky and eyes started stinging. By far the worst gyukatsu place I’ve been to in Japan.

After not able to get a seat at Shinjuku central Gyukatsu for two nights when I arrive at 20:30, I have been guided to this branch by the staff there. Even though there was a queue here as well, it was much more reasonable and anyhow possible to get in unlike the other one. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The meat was really good so it was worth the wait but I wasn’t big fan of the other side dishes they provide. The atmosphere is really cozy but you don’t want to come here before a part evening since you will for sure smell smoke and grease for rest of the evening. The solution they found is providing clothe spray at the end.

OVERLY HYPED. My overall experience was okay, but I personally think other places are better. They used a great cut of meat, but it was EXTREMELY OILY! I could not eat the whole thing. The miso soup, pickles, rice and cold tea were great. The fried outer layer of the gyukatsu was not crispy due to the oil. The oil was too much. The experience was ruined a bit by the oil splashing at me from the grill. I also personally wished they offered other options for dressing for the cabbage. The menu needs some work. They had a Japanese side and an English side. But the English menus did not have the same things offered. On the Japanese menu, you had a choice of changing the set to have ochazuke verses the three small sides, which were more like dips. I believe they need to change their menu. For a restaurant that has lines out the door, they also should update some of their dishware. I'm sure they could afford to replace the plastic miso soup bowls. The color was chipping off. Definitely go to a different gyukatsu place or spend your money on something else.

I had the pleasure of dining at a Tonkatsu restaurant in Tokyo and it was definitely worth the visit. Despite hearing about the long wait times, I was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of empty seats when I arrived. I opted for the one cutlet set meal with a beer, which was the perfect size for me. However, for those with a bigger appetite, I would recommend ordering the 1.5 cutlet or even 2 cutlets. The pork cutlet was perfectly crispy and juicy, and the accompanying Tonkatsu sauce added a nice flavor to the dish. One of the highlights of the meal was the self-serve experience of cooking beef on a hot stone. The sizzling sound of the raw beef charcoal-grilling on the stone was incredibly satisfying, and it was a unique and interactive way to enjoy the meal. I especially enjoyed counting the seconds to determine the ideal doneness of the beef cutlet. Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised by the option to add a layer of yam to the rice. This was something I had never tried before, but it was absolutely delicious and may have become my new favorite thing. Overall, I highly recommend this Tonkatsu restaurant to anyone visiting Tokyo, even if they only have a short trip. While the wait times may be long at times, it is definitely worth the visit for the delicious food and unique dining experience.

I am a huge fan of gyukatsu but i can’t help but notice how the meat became worse in quality, much more fatty and the portion is also smaller on top of the price increase. I am so disappointed seeing a lot of my favorite restaurants decreasing the quality of the food here in Tokyo. It was still ok and i would grade the experience a 2,5 if i could.

Fancy and delicious 🤌🏻 only two options in menu: normal rice or chazuke, but it’s fine. Worth the money.

Amazing find via Google Maps and numerous vlogs on Tokyo. They take credit card and cash. Hole in the wall. In the basement. First time having beef katsu. Will be back for a second. A bit of a Smokey done because of the size. Go here.

Had such an amazing meal and was surprised that it was such great value, the quality of the beef was excellent, it was so juicy. We got there 10 minutes before they opened and managed to get seated straight away, there was quite a line up of people trying to get in when we left.

Amazing food and menu for a very affordable price! One of the best meals I ever had in my life, hands down. The place is this tiny underground corridor with no A/C and a long waiting queue but once you are inside, the staff helps you in all possible ways. If you are looking for a truly unusual food experience and ready to taste delicious beef, just go! Enjoy your dinner and continue out for a beer in another place around Shibuya.

One of the best Gyukatsu places in Tokyo. The line is not as long compared to other places but the food here is quite better than the others. The sauce and dressing for the salad is so so good.. meat is so tender, I'd choose this over wagyu most days. The staff is so friendly and nice, one waiter picked up my friends water bottle and filled it up for her. Thank you!!

I've always liked eating at Gyukatsu Motomura. Been to many of their stores. But out of all of them, I think this is the most tourist friendly. Maybe it's because they're right in the middle of Shinjuku tourist district as well. Overhearing the conversation with other groups, the staff here speaks enough English that you may not need to converse with them in Japanese. Please also note that this store is smaller than other Gyukatsu Motomura. The tables are like for 2 people at most, but there's a bar for single diners. So if you come here with more than 2, you'll probably be split up. The place is full during lunch time, but it's a short wait

Their gyukatsu is top notch and it melts in your mouth, I'm not kidding! The beef cutlet comes rare, and you can cook it on the stone grill to your liking. I've tried every doneness of the beef and it's still awesome! After eating it, I've found out on their website that they actually use wagyu. The sides are very suitable for the gyukatsu meal. Tororo and mentaiko can be added to your rice to add more flavour. Also it comes with warabi mochi as a dessert. Went before the opening hours to avoid the queue as can be seen in other reviews here. Very satisfying and worth visiting. Highly recommended!

Do yourself a favor and get the 2x cutlet. If there were an option for 3 cutlets I would get it. I have been in Japan for 2 weeks, as far north as Aomori and as far south as Fukuoka. This arguably is the best / second best meal I’ve had in Japan. The meat is insanely tender and juicy, rich and full of flavor. Alone it speaks volume. Adding the sauces or even simply salt is a whole different experience in the mouth. Not better or worse, but different entirely. You cant go wrong here. I even ate my desert before my last piece of the cutlet so I could leave the restaurant with that flavor still lingering on my tongue.
