I stayed alone in a 6 jo washitsu, and was pleased to find it very spacious. There is a window in the bathroom, so one can take o-furo, while enjoying the view of the hills. The common lounge on the ground floor is offering not only tea and coffee but also a variety of books and manga. The location is very convenient, you can reach Takachiho gorge in 15 minutes by walking, and Takachiho shrine, where the 1 hour Yokagura show is performed every night in winter, is only 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Totally satisfied, good value for money. Moreover, the simple style of the ryokan perfectly matches IMHO the whole atmosphere of the place, full of sacred sites and shrines. I guess, staying in a western type hotel, though more comfortable, would have spoiled my trip there. Many thanks to Ukigumo team!

If your main priority is looking for a comfortable place to sleep, I don't think UPI could do better. Close to the gorge. Owner speaks strong English, and is very helpful. The room is a nice size, and air conditioned. The highlight was the stunning view we woke up to in the morning.

A nice calm warm place to stay when visiting Takachiho. Because Takachiho is small in the first place, the location of your accommodation isn't really something you have to keep in mind when visiting, it really depends on what you want from your stay. I really loved this place, the manager was a friendly man who can also speak English and a bit Dutch haha. My room was a traditional Japanese room, it was my first time staying in one and I love it, it's kinda the same when I'm in Turkey, the difference is here you sleep on a blanket on the floor and in the villages in Turkey it's the carpet you sleep on, so no problem to getting used to it. You can tell they put effort to keep the place clean, something which is really important in my opinion. You also take your shoes off when you enter. If I were to visit Takachiho again, I would definitely stay here again 😄

Nice cozy atmosphere. Clean rooms with comfortable beds. The owners are friendly and kind. A comfortable place to stay.

Great B&B with super friendly Staff. The room are spacious and with a great view of mountains and trees. Simple breakfast in the morning was a good way to start the day

It is really nice Japanese style room, and MT.view from room. The location is correct! Near Takachiho Gorge, just few minutes by walk. At night! We can walk to Takachiho shrine to see Kugura, just in 10 minutes by walk. I went there by rental car, and this guesthouse has paking lot for guest. If need supermarket or minimart must go to city, that quite far by walk. Perfect stayed&nice owner. I will be back again 😘

Hotel: very clean, and the room is big. Location: very good (very close to the shrine and Takachiho-Kyo). Host: speak good English, and He drive us to the bus center when we leave, so nice!

Great atmosphere, nice oldfashioned Japanese inn. Cozy common room, clean rooms with futon beds. Owner can communicate in English very well. And the surrounding area is beautiful of course :) takachiho gorge with boat rentals are close by.

A family run Inn close to the gorge. The room is cosy and spacious, but needs more cleaning, I found some long hairs on the tatami. Self service breakfast is available, there was juice, milk, coffee and tea. Toast and boiled eggs are also available.
