If you are heading for Matsuyama castle, be sure to include this as part of your trip. It's located at the entrance of the castle perimeter and provides an alternative way besides walking up to the castle. The cable/lift are same-priced, but with a different experience. The cable can accommodate more people during a 3-minute period. The lift can only seat one person during a 6-minute ride, and it's recommended to people who want to pursue a little bit of thrilling and exciting experience. You can also directly see Matsuyama castle along the way. My personal suggestion would be to take the lift on your way up to the Matsuyama castle, and walk down when you are ready to leave. The walk down is about 10 to 15 minutes easy walk and is also pretty enjoyable. In this way, you get to have diverse experiences here when visiting Matsuyama castle.

The Ropeway was neat, and a fun and easy way up the hill. It was inexpensive and not a super high altitude so it wasn't scary. As a side note though, the independent seats have nothing in the form of safety bars, so you must hold on tight and try not to drop anything on your way up.

Just wonder why chair lift has no belt. Seems not common for japan where safety is very concerned. But it is fun to ride. And very convenient to visit castle while other castles you have to walkup hills. It is cheap also.

A short but fun ride up the mountain to Matsuyama Castle. You can take ropeway or chair lift.

Well maintained castle giving a peek into the past lives of these castle owners. Try the samurai sword and hold the rifle guns to feel the weight. Photo op to don the samurai suit too - adult and kid size available. Take the chair lift to the castle if you can, love it.

not too many people, reasonable price. you can choose between the chair lift and ropeway but kids should definitely go for ropeways. there are no safety belts for chair lifts.

A must go. The chair is not suitable for kids. It's like a chair with no belt or any safety harness. A great experience. They close at 4.30pm. So do go before that. But from the top station you still have to hike to the castle. Its just halfway.

You can enjoy a nice viewing and great architecture. I didn't have a enough time to check details of this historical castle. We can use a lift to go up entrance of castle. I am going to revisit here someday.

Well worth it! Thought I'd seen enough castes but was wrong. How it is positioned right up on top of this hill is incredible. The lift was fun too!

Well worth a visit. A wonderful place with an interesting history. We had a guided tour which was great as the information posters are mainly in Japanese. Going on a clear day is recommended. The view is amazing.

There’s two options to go up the Matsuyama-jo, the cable car & chair lift. Highly recommend the chair lift if you’re not afraid of heights 😉 it’s so fun & the best way to enjoy the ride 😎
