This is a unique little museum with friendly staff and is handicap, as well as, stroller friendly. Before entering, look across the road, at the fenced-in area. You can get close enough to see what wild boars of Okinawa, look and smell like. Signs in Japanese and English, warn DO NOT Touch! In the climate-controlled museum, a small fee (Few 100 Yen) is charged but, well worth it. There are examples of most of the wild critters you may come across while in Okinawa. Most of the wildlife has been to the taxidermist but, there are some live snakes, housed so no one can touch or, be bitten by them. This is one of my favorite places to visit when the weather outdoors keeps me trapped indoors and I need a nature fix. There are also cultural and historical displays. Usually, off to the left side of the building (before entering the museum) local arts and crafts are on display. Photography is not permitted in the art display area but, you're welcome, to take photos in the museum. I will return to add photos of the Inoshishi (Wild Boar) when the weather improves and some decent images may be captured.

This museum is an oasis in yambaru! Hidden in the North of Okinawa, it has a park with incredible views and a playground with a zip line and a water well. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The museum has some very impressive bird replicas and a photo exhibition featuring remarkable shots of Okinawan wildlife. And if you are not impressed enough yet, there are even live habus!

やんばるの森に住む多種多様な生物の剥製などが自然環境を模したショーケースに展示されていて面白かったです！ すぐ近くでリュウキュウイノシシが飼育されており餌やりもできます。 時間の流れがゆっくりに感じられとても癒されました。

Great museum highlighting the history of the area and it's people plus the animal species found there. Very impressive for a local museum.

Musiam on monday was closed but beside the road we can see wild pig we stop sigh said you can feed banana and rice ball which i do not have it so i feed egg omulet kind call in japanese tamagoyaki 卵焼き.pig loved it .next time i will see musiam not on mondays. Very quiet area and lots of trees. I will back again.

オスのリュウキュウイノシシが2頭飼われていて、３歳の子どもが大喜びしていました。私も生きているリュウキュウイノシシを見るのは初めてだったので、親子ではしゃぎました。 生活博物館から餌に関する注意書きがあり、餌やりの際に大変参考になりました。芋類、果物、おにぎりが大好物とのこと、2回目は子どもにせがまれ、エサ持参で訪問しました。貴重な体験ができました。 博物館には生き物の展示もあります。 隣接する公園はヤンバル船を模ったユニークな滑り台やアスレチックもあり、緑豊かです。何種類もの鳥のさえずりや川のせせらぎの音も聞こえてきて、本当に癒されました。
