Seriously delicious! We got the Katsu curry (pork cutlet and curry with rice) and Katsu don (pork cutlet with sweet soy sauce over rice with egg). Be warned that it’s a lot of food (especially Katsu curry). Hearty and delicious. English friendly. Would definitely recommend! おすすめーおいしいかったです！

Matsumi is a shokudo (Japanese eatery) that serves a good variety of soba, ramen, udon and teishoku (meal with miso soup and rice), but it seems that their most famous dish is the Katsu Curry, that can be ordered in two sizes: regular and large. The regular one is already a big dish, and the large one is gigantic. I was surprised to learn that Christopher Lloyd came here with his family in 2018 (he ordered Yakisoba, according to the owner). I had the katsu don (¥800), which was very good and fulfilling, I couldn’t even finish.

10/10 in everything. Great hospitality from the owners. They even give us clementines for eating two days in a row. Only order large if you are extremely hungry and big eater. It is at least 4-6 serving rices!! And remember Japanese rice is thicker than other Asian rice! Food quality for the price is the best in Japan.

Extensive menu, very affordable price, quick cooking, Coca-Cola in glass bin, friendly staff. The wall is full of photos, pins, many things to look while eating. Christopher Lloyd ( Doc) ate there in 2018 :) Simple place open until late. Accept PayPay payment.

Hidden gem with surprisingly good food. Love the atmosphere & the hospitality. Katsu is larger than my hand & tasted fantastic. Prices are of great value with a souvenir. Must go!

I ate here twice while I stayed in town. I tried the grilled meat set, the katsu bowl, and the gyoza. Everything was delicious. I want to come back one day to try their large curry dish! The owners were so nice! And there is an English menu. Definitely recommend if you are in Yudanaka.

A classic family Shokudo but their speciality being their curry katsu, which was pretty good for the price point. Not the most flavourful but not many restaurants open around the area. But owners were friendly and service was fast.

Great atmosphere, time surely stoped here. The food was simply amazing, and I had the best miso in my life. Portions are big, and even one dish would make you full. The price is low even compared to a few other places in the village. I can't recommend this place enough 😃

Finding this hidden gem right after the Snow Monkey Park has been fantastic for us. The feeling of authentic Japanese cuisine with great care and simplicity has enveloped us like a warm hug. We'll definitely come back again in the future.
