(Translated by Google) I went before the new pneumonia epidemic. This exhibition is very nice. When I took a closer look at each one, one day wasn't enough. It was purely fun to get to know the culture and life of various countries in the world. There are many interesting exhibits such as gorgeous Indian Barbie dolls, Easter eggs from various countries, picture books of star princes from all over the world, Muay Thai costumes, and Moai statues. It was good that there was an exhibition where you can see not only historical things but also a part of the general life of the country. There was also a large-scale exhibition that recreated a private house, so you could actually go inside and see it. The restaurant in the hall was spacious and the food was delicious. There were many souvenirs that could be bought at the museum shop, which are typical of the Folklore Museum.

There is a Tottori tour bus you can take. The sand museum had different themes each year- Egypt theme in 2023. Quite enjoyable experience. The museum could add a cafeteria.

Overall, the sand museum is air-conditioned unlike ours in sg which is under the hot sun. The way the sand castles are created are very detailed all with historical meaning behind it. Per pax is 800yen.

(Translated by Google) To those who are going (1) Due to storage reasons, the room is kept at room temperature of around 22 degrees Celsius. If you are cold even in the summer, please bring a light coat. ② The places where you can eat and drink are limited. Be aware that dehydration and lack of energy slow down brain processing. Look at the map and plan your strategy. ③ Let's borrow an electronic guide. I was disappointed when I learned after the museum closed. Free. And with a video. ④ If you like to read the commentary, it is best to take about 2 days to capture it with plenty of time. ⑤ There is an electronic ticket guide at the bottom left of the official website, and it will be cheaper if you purchase from there. Tickets with special exhibitions have a large discount rate. I was honestly licking. Sorry. First of all, it's huge. I thought I knew it because I was looking at the map inside the building in advance, but it was several times wider than I expected. The exhibition was only on the 2nd floor, but the building area is 17089㎡. Of course, there are corridors and reception desks, but even if you subtract them, they are wide. And the exhibits are lined up in a narrow space, as if there was not enough space on the wall. It is a masterpiece. Looking at each one and recognizing it, the energy of the brain is insufficient, and I, who is poor, lack the muscles of the legs in the first place. Enter at the same time as the opening, and take a break only for hydration for 10 minutes or less. It was closed until the museum closed, but I didn't borrow the PSP video commentary, and at the end I broke it. I pray for the end of Corona because I want to try again. (Translated by Google) It is highly recommended because you can feel like traveling the world for less than 1,000 yen, but anyway, the distance traveled and the amount of exhibits are too intense, so it is recommended to eat well before going. .. Otherwise, you are likely to have hypoglycemia on the way. There is a restaurant where you can enjoy the food of the world, but the clerk responded so that you could relive the service of the former Soviet Union, and the food was "normally delicious", so that's right, if I were the opposite expo I'm going to the food court in the city ... Anyway, you can see a lot of things, so please charge your energy and go to see it. It's a lot of fun. I could finally afford to watch the video take for the 5th time (I couldn't afford to watch it by the time I ran out of energy every time) It was a dream come true to enjoy it with something. I don't have enough time Added on November 3rd: Due to the influence of the new coronavirus, it is no longer possible to enter the reproduced private houses. Also, the restaurant is currently closed due to renovation work.

Very unique museum! Artists have given special attention to the intricate details. There was even a cute teddy with a mask at the entrance. Entry fee is very minimal. I would have loved if there were some short personal experience lessons. But overall the sculptures are magnificent and all amaze by the efforts for the artists.

An impressive and must-see attraction for those visiting Tottori prefecture. There was plenty of English and Japanese language signage to explain the significance of the sculptures and their context. The sculptures themselves were astonishing and - to my mind - even more impressive than the snow sculptures in the Sapporo snow festival.

Loved the art and tremendous effort put into creating it. Due to Covid-19, they measure the temperature at the front entrance gate and only allow one person to pass through ticket gate at a time. Due to this, the queue tends to become extremely long. I waited for more than 25 minutes to pass through the gate. However, they do have a secondary entrance gate that you can pass through without waiting at all. This gate is closer to the Sand dunes observatory (砂丘展望台).

More of an exhibition than a museum. Do not come here expecting to learn about the origin of sand, chemical composition and applications etc. Instead, this is a sand sculpture exhibition with an Egyptian theme to commemorate 100 years of independence. Amazing in its own right, as you get to learn about how sand sculptors create their masterpieces. You also get to admire the intricate details of each exhibit, and appreciate Egyptian history and culture along the way.

The most original place you will visit in Japan. They come up with new theme every year (in 2023 it was Egypt for example) and then hire sand artists from all over the world to make the best sandcastle ever. If you enjoy artists effort, original artworks, and of course epic sandcastle, this is worth going out of your way from Osaka or Tokyo

First time to see a sand museum so no real basis for comparison. This month’s theme was Nordic. The sculptures were larger than life. I especially came all the way to see what they have in store. I wasn’t disappointed and it was a good exhibit, but Tottori is far so I was expecting to see more. Still worth it though.

Amazing museum, incredible selection of artifacts. Makes ethnology accessible to anyone. English translations sadly were less informative than the Japanese info.

Vast collection, especially strong on Japan, Korea, China. Other regions are represented by geography (roughly one zone per continent) as a nice summary of it, short but sufficient. There is also a small section on languages and - surprisingly - one entirely dedicated to music. Portable video guides are very exhaustive: they consist of over 700 videos of 1 to 3 minutes, in Japanese or English. Was not crowded in spite of it being a Sunday, most probably because access is not the easiest. Special heads up to the very specific architecture of the building from the 70's, which whether you like it or not is a must-see. Staff friendly.

Totally worth the visit. Even though it is far from main cities like Tokyo, Osaka, etc. The sand exhibits change every year. They have pictures for earlier exhibits as well

  • 5/5 Daria P. 3 years ago on Google
It is relatively small, but very museum. The sculptures are actually very impressive. The theme changes once or twice a year. The entrance is not expensive and you do not need too much time to visit it, takes about 40-60 minutes.

  • 4/5 Andy H. 4 years ago on Google
Well done. The sand museum is situated next to the famed Tottori sand dunes, and should be a planned stop if you're ever visiting the area. Works follow a theme, and this time it's on South Asia and it's religions, featuring the works of sand artists around the world. A plus - there's a projection show onto the sand.

  • 5/5 Alvin L. 6 years ago on Google
「砂で世界旅行・北欧編」Amazing exhibition with most myth presented in form of sands. The museum is not big itself, but you can still spend 30 minutes to 1 hour here for taking photos. As it was a in-door hall, it will not be affected by the weather.

  • 3/5 Dominique R. 1 year ago on Google
A wonderful place, but pleeeeaaase why not one panel in English??? The sand sculptures are made by an international team, and the least we would expect is that their work is duly recognised and that foreigner visitors would be able to understand what these artists have meant, and to enjoy the very heart of their creations. In other words, the lack of English shows a disappointing lack of respect and openness to other cultures, the very essence of the museum, I would think. Too bad.

  • 5/5 Katharine C. 1 year ago on Google
What an AWESOME place! It’s astounding how much detail went into every exhibit…it’s absolutely incredible that they crafted it all out of sand. Pure genius. I absolutely loved this place, and at ¥800, the price is very reasonable. Try and go on a weekday, when the museum first opens for the lowest crowds.

The sand sculptures were so well done that I felt I was back in Egypt. The exhibit was educational, intriguing and a great tribute to the brilliance of the Egyptian architecture that designed the original sphinx, pyramids and tombs. This is a must see if you are visiting Tottori Japan.

  • 4/5 Rahil C. 1 year ago on Google
Really fun and interesting museum in Tottori prefecture. I believe the exhibit is changed frequently. I think the ticket price was 1600 yen for 2 people, which is a little pricier than I expected. You can be in an out in under an hour. I recommend if you’re in the area. Also there’s a lovely view of the sand dunes from the museum so don’t forget to check that out.

Really cool place to stop if your in the area. Ever year is a different theme exhibit. The sculptures are incredibly detailed and have a lot going on. It is foreigner friendly with English pamphlets and directions which is helpful. The gift shop also has a lot of cute souvenirs and pear themed snacks and goods.

  • 5/5 Naraski J. 10 months ago on Google
The details on the sculpture were amazing! The team did a fantastic job bringing the Ancient Egypt to life. Each year there are different exhibition. We were very lucky because we love Ancient Egypt. Be sure to check what they're exhibiting beforehand. Spent around 60-90 minutes here. A great combination with the Tottori Sand Dune (preferably start with the Museum and exit through the second exit which is near the chairlift entrance going down to the sand dune).

  • 5/5 Valentin E. 5 months ago on Google
Awesome museum! I went during the Egypt theme and it was really amazing. I didn't know what to expect going in but I was blown away by the large sand sculptures. Really a great place to visit. And the themes seem to change every year so it's fine to visit again next time!
