Very nice gyoza restaurant with vegan options. After placing the order, the lovely waitress came back and told us that the shrimp gyoza is made with pork oil, so it's not halal. So we changed the order to one of their vegan plates. Had the mushroom risotto gyoza and the mashed potato gyoza with grilled bonito sahimi, all was delicious. The chocolate filled gyoza with ice cream was excellent. The total was a little less than 3000 yen. Would definitely come again for gyoza.

We arrived to this shop 20 minutes before its opening and we're the first in line. We had high expectations but we were amazed by this place. From the moment you go in the staff is super friendly and happy so they get you in the nice mood vibe. Now, the important stuff, we didn't go for the recommended set menu and instead tried a lot of different gyozas. Here are all of them ranked from what we liked the most to the least: 1. Chicken and mozzarella 2. Shrimp Gyoza and chili sauce 3. Ginger Gyoza pork 3 4. Boiled ginger Gyoza (PORK) 5. Mushroom risotto cheese gyoza 6. Garlic Gyoza with green chilli mayonnaise (PORK) 7. Chao chao gyoza 8 8. Pork Gyoza with fresh tomato & cheese We recommend all of them except #8, we were disappointed that it was not fresh tomato but rather ketchup. Anyway, make yourself a favor and try this place yourself, you will not regret it!

A fantastic spot, especially those struggling to find vegetarian meals in Japan. They have a vegan set meal, which is great value. It's a small place with lines outside at dinner time. Great place for drinks and food.

Only in Japan would I wait over an hour just to eat gyozas late at night because every other place was closed early. I decided to come here around 7:30pm because I saw a long line and thought to myself that the gyozas had to be good enough for a long queue. The price isn't bad for what you get and the food is alright. Don't expect the Taiwanese or Chinese style pan-fried dumplings, which are bigger in size because these are definitely smaller in comparison. Overall, I would come back but maybe not when the line is long because I was starving the entire time and the interior is small. So if you have a large party, consider breaking it up into smaller chunks because you will not be able to sit together inside.

A huge variety of gyoza and excellent quality. A lot of drinks are also available, even though most are alcoholic. The gyoza menu is highly recommended from my point of view. You should arrive VERY EARLY to get a seat immediately. Otherwise, you may end up waiting for a LOT.

Huge selection of all different sorts of gyozas! Loads of veggie and I believe even vegan options as well so something for everyone. The staff is really amazing too, super friendly, speak good English and create a fun atmosphere in the restaurant. We had a bar seat which was awesome cause you can see them prepare everything. Highly recommend!

Amazing vegetarian options available, so tasty and the service was great, staff are super friendly and food comes quickly. I got the veggie set for 1400yen I think which came with two types of gyoza + a side (I chose fried tofu) + a drink. Well worth it & the staff tell you which condiment goes with each item.

Tried their eponymous chao chao gyoza - really tasty! Very small though, honestly I think the smallest gyoza I’ve ever seen. But they’re very cheap - a little under 300 yen for 8 - so I’d just double my order next time. Also tried the okra pickles, which I’d never seen before - delicious. Excellent service, English-friendly. It was a good choice for a little snack before continuing to explore Kyoto.

Fantastic eatery full of upbeat women who welcome you through the door with a wonderful energy. We came here at night originally - but the queue was immense. So we returned for lunch the following day with barely any queue! The gyozas were delicious and not too expensive! Well worth the wait if you are queuing!

Is this probably the best place to eat gyozas in Kyoto? Yes, it is. Was worthy to be waiting for 75 minutes to get spot? Yes it was. Did I eat 56 gyozas all by myself while my boyfriend was thinking about his life choices by being with someone like me? Yes I did. Will I come back? Yes I will. I hope you try this place and be strong while waiting the queue.

Don't underestimate this place ! Lots of tourists do come but it isn't a tourist trap. The food is DELICIOUS and the service is impeccably nice and kind. They greeted us with such warm hospitality. Definitely try their signature pork gyoza but also some of their special ones like chicken and mozerella cheese and mashed potato.

Went to this place after seeing it recommended on the happy cow website. There was a big queue outside the restaurant due to the large veggie selection but the food was well worth the wait! I can easily say it was the culinary highlight of our trip. They had a selection of weird sounding gyoza which included ones containing potato and risotto. You could also choose to have them deep fried or grilled which was a nice touch. All were devoured and seconds ordered. We got to sit on the stools where you could see the chef working which made the experience interactive! Dress code: casual Cost: ££ Food: Tasty Service: Fast paced Ambience: loud and fun

We had dinner at this gyoza place. Not too bad for a simple non-rice or non- ramen meal. The gyoza was not the best I've had, but suffice for a pit stop meal. They were probably mass produced kept frozen and heated up upon on orders. They serve quail eggs too! Restaurant was not big as with the typical eateries in Japan. But seating was rather comfortable and service was alright. If you are nearby, can try. But no need to make a special trip down here.

They have plenty of other dishes here besides the gyoza. English menu available. There is also non-meat gyoza. One visit is not enough to try all the delicious dishes. Manned only by two staff who have to take orders, prepare food, cleanup and man the cashier, I'm super impressed by their efficiency and speed, while maintaining a superb service. In my home country, it will take at least 4 people to do this and you'll probably have to wait three times the waiting time, with disgruntled service at that.

The staff is lovely, when we arrived it was two women who were doing their best to accommodate foreign tourists in English but also kept their local clients entertained. Their gyoza are juicy, though smaller than what you would generally expect so I definitely recommend getting their 16-piece set minimum. Price on alcoholic drinks are fair.

Worth the wait! Small restaurant but worth the queue time, and the staff are really friendly. Vegetarian meal set was brilliant, it’s hard to find vegetarian options elsewhere. Tasty! Order the cheese for an extra treat!

As all of the other reviews suggest, this place is a must visit if you are hungry for some gyoza in Kyoto. There is a line outside, like most good things in Japan, but it moves fairly quickly since there is a decent amount of seating inside. There is a huge selection of gyoza and drinks to choose from and everything we tried was amazing. The staff are all very friendly and really help create a fun environment. Will definitely be coming back if I'm ever in Kyoto again!

Delicious gyozas! The consistency on the cook and char on these gyozas need to be called out. Every serving we had did not disappoint. Plus, these are affordable! We ordered the pork, shrimp, chicken and mozzarella (grilled) and pork with extra garlic. We got there around 6pm and got a seat pretty quick but there was a line forming after we were seated. Highly recommend this place on your next visit to Kyoto!

Top tier tourist trap. Ultra long waiting time on a weekday night. We joined the queue at 730pm and waited for 2h. Majority if not all of the queue were foreigners. The gyoza flavours were unique (won’t say they fall under the category of classic/authentic gyozas) but frankly not worth the queue at all. If I had know the queue was going to take so long I would not have waited. There are better authentic gyozas elsewhere

As someone who used to work in a kitchen the cooks and staff here run such a efficient shop, we got the recommended order with their specialty gyoza, shrimp gyoza, the pickled cucumber, and the bean sprouts, all the gyoza were amazing and the vegetables were so refreshing and the staff were so attentive. Definitely worth the wait, and would be my go to spot if I lived here

The line is worth it! (around 45 min for us in a Saturday night) The vibes are great, they keep the energy up, and the gyozas were delicious. We had a great time and definitely recommend. (you can tell the restaurant is designed to cater for their western clientele, but everything is extremely well done, on a fair price level)

It is next to our hotel but I only managed to dine in the last day of our stay because of the long queue everyday. We ordered most popular Gyoza indicated in the menu and no surprise they are all delicious: No.1 Chao Chao Gyoza (traditional pork/ long cabbage) tasted authentic. No2 shrimp gyoza and No3 chicken gyoza tasted brilliant when paired with mayonnaise. No4 Plum gyoza is gives a special fusion between pork and plum. I also like the miso source especially spicy miso, it is the first time I come up with it, it surprisingly fit for Gyoza. Most recipes patron are foreigners, I like it and am interested to see how locals rate it.

We visited here as a group of 7 on a Monday evening. We arrived at around 8pm and there was a huge queue waiting outside of at least 15-20 people. We asked how long the wait would be and was advised 30-60 minutes. However we did not get inside until around 10pm, so 2 hours of waiting which was not ideal and is not something we would have done if we knew it was going to take this long. However once we were inside it was only positive. The service is excellent, staff are very friendly and upbeat, and make you feel very welcome. The menu is very vegetarian friendly, with many different options to choose from. We shared all of the vegetarian options from the menu and would say the majority was extremely tasty. However our highlight would have to be the dessert! The chocolate gyoza’s were out of this world, so much so that we ended up ordering another plate each! Overall we felt the restaurant was fantastic, and were very impressed with the food which in the end made up for the long wait

BEST GYOZA EVER! We came here on a Friday night around 5:30pm and waited 45 minutes for a table. The service was excellent and our server spoke English which was very helpful. We loved the deep fried shrimp gyoza with sweet chili sauce and the chocolate gyoza with vanilla ice cream the most, but everything we had was delicious! I recommend ordering twice as much food as you first think because they are so easy to eat and you will want even more. 100% worth the wait. We are already looking forward to the next time we can have these gyoza!

  • 5/5 Robert E. 2 years ago on Google
A great gyoza restaurant, dumplings were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We kept ordering more plates since it was all so delicious. Then we managed to find room to have their apple pie gyoza and ice cream for dessert!

  • 4/5 Remy M. 1 year ago on Google
The vegetarian options are there, but quite limited in range. There is mashed potato, pickled something, cheesy mushroom gyoza, and a fried tofu one we didn't get to try. The flavors all seemed a bit different from what i want from gyoza. I was hoping for vegetarian, with still some semblance of flavor to the regular meat ones. While they WERE tasty, i wouldn't order them again except maybe the mushroom one. Like there's not cheese in the meat gyoza, idk why it's in the vegetarian ones. Give it a try, just not the first or second place for anyone vegetarian.

Really nice gyozas and very kind waiter. Menu is available in English.

  • 5/5 Ingrid X. 4 years ago on Google
This place is cool and the gyozas are delicious. I can see why the long wait (I waited 1 hour and 15 min) and why they won competitions for their gyozas. They have several locations and probably the other less central shop is less crowded (which I doubt) but anyways I think it’s worth trying it. The staff is friendly and the shop cozy and welcoming.

I would highly recommend visiting early to avoid long queue times. We visited on a Wednesday evening after 8pm and waited two hours, while the food was lovely, if you aren't prepared to wait I'd plan to visit much earlier in the evening. Staff were so charming and enthusiastic. Any compliments we made on the food were directed straight back to the chef. We went for the set menu which gave plenty of options of a side, 16 piece gyozas, another gyoza set and drink. I would recommend the pickled cucumber and chicken wings! Really delicious food all round. You can't miss the ice cream chocolate gyoza either. They have english menus available as well as vegetarian and vegan options. The team did really well managing the queue and inside the restaurant. It cannot be easy managing a small restaurant once it goes viral online, but we were well attended to and the staff made it very clear they were grateful for everyone waiting.

A lot of gyoza to choose from. Something for everyone both vegetarian, and meat eaters. We ordered quite a bit of different gyoza and it was all delicious. Our favorite was the curry kimchi gyoza.

  • 4/5 Ermis M. 7 months ago on Google
The place definitely has a certain level of charm! Their pork gyozas are crispy (to perfection) and quite well-balanced spice-wise. Their pork and spicy wasabi mayo sauce ones were a treat really, whereas their yams-sauced ones were kinda indifferent. What was kinda disappointing were the quantities, considering you’d need to order several times to have a filling meal. Other than that, an original setup that while non-english speaking is definitely geared towards tourists (clientele-wise). Fair/cheap-ish prices, that become kind of normal when u consider quantities. Service was really kind, whereas a reservation is not needed.

Great place for authentic gyozas with local vibes. The staff (especially Taichi-san) was so cheerful and helpful at all times of the evening. All the gyozas was delicious but our favourite was teba-gyoza (chicken wings stuffed with gyoza fillings).

What a good late night casual eat place - we intended to go to one of charcoal BBQ + offal hotpot place I used to go to a few years ago but they were closed for the new year holiday period so we wandered around and found this place. The staff understand and speak English to a basic level but it's more than enough to order food and drinks. There are many foreigners too. English/Chinese are on the menus too for both foods and drinks. Highly recommend the ume plum gyoza which also has perilla in it. Also highly recommend the chicken wing gyoza as we haven't had them in ages but always been a fan - the filling would taste even better if it's just mince instead of the gyoza filling. Very fragrant and refreshing even though it's fried. The prawn one was very good also. The ones with soup and mala sauce were quite spicy but tasty. We ordered a lot of food and many rounds of drinks so it gets expensive quickly for casual eating but it was a good time.

Amount was smaller than expected. I would say it’s a better place for supper than a proper dinner. A decent variety of gyozas and got vegetarian options. Their 梅しそ+chicken gyoza is sth special and tasted great.

I am from Italy and I can say that the Chocolate Gyoza with ice cream is amazing! For the "spicy" lovers the spicy pork gyoza soup is a must. All the food I ate was delicious (Green onion gyoza, pork, plum and chicken and Chao Chao). An amazing place to have a break in Kyoto! We ate a lot so the price was really good!

I came by on a weekday evening at around 7.30pm and there was already a queue of around 15 people, mostly tourists. I was only able to enter the shop at around 9pm. The staff here are very energetic and after serving you drinks (they provide water if you don't order any beverage) and will start your meal, by asking you to do a round of drinks cheers by shouting 'kanpai'. One of their menus suggests a Kawaramachi set (¥1460) which gives you 16 pieces of Chao Chao Gyoza, 2 side dishes (such as 2 pc chicken wing and 3 pieces of other dumpling flavours) and a drink (to be looked up from their large drink menu). It took a while to order and decide, because there were so many different dumplings on offer. The chaochao gyoza was really delicious and my only complaint is that they were rather small and the pieces often were stuck together and were more likely to come off two pieces at a time. I also got a mushroom risotto dumpling in soup (¥530) and this was rather interesting to try. The clear soup was tasty and provided a good contrast to the creaminess of the risotto.

Fun small gyoza place that offers a variety of gyozas. We really liked the gyozas we had here and especially the pork gyozas with a spicy miso dipping Sauce are not to be missed. The staff is really friendly and enthousiastic and we only had to wait a short while before being allowed in (we did come pretty early though).

  • 4/5 Noga a. 8 months ago on Google
Waiting time - We arrived at around 18:30 to avoid waiting time. We still had to wait about 45 minutes so I recommend getting there 45 minutes earlier than the time you want to eat. I also recommend getting there before it's getting too busy because by the time we left there was a very long line. Service - The staff were lovely and friendly, they were very welcoming and seemed to know a few words from every language so they can greet foreigners (like us) which was really nice! They were very energetic and seemed like they enjoy their work Food - The food was good. I wouldn't say it's the best gyoza I've ever had but it was pretty good. They have many different types and flavours of gyoza, which reminds a little bit of a western Japanese restaurant but I don't mind that so it was fine for me. The gyozas are very small but don't cost much so I recommend ordering many different dishes. The chocolate gyoza was delicious, I strongly recommend ordering that for dessert I've seen many reviews here complaining about this restaurant being a "tourist trap". Yes, there were only tourists in the restaurant when we were there but I think that's just the restaurant's way of making money, obviously as that's part of their goal (I assume..). This area of Kyoto has many tourists visiting so it makes sense they would make the restaurant "tourist friendly". Personally, I don't mind that there were many tourists there but I get that it can bother some people. If you want a "traditional" or "less western" gyoza meal then that's not the restaurant you should go to. Overall, a really good restaurant, I strongly recommend trying it when you're visiting kyoto!

This place has a lovely izakaya atmosphere. The ladies that work there are very friendly and hospitable. They also speak English. Unfortunately, the dumplings are not spectacular. The set meal with 16 dumplings sounds like a deal, but the dumplings are 1/2 the size of proper dumplings. The flavor is also less than spectacular. Don't believe the TikTokers... also go at lunch to avoid the crowds. This place is not worth a longer than 10 minute wait.

We made a quick stop for a beer and some gyoza! We loved it so much we came a second time the next day. Day one we tried their signature chao chao gyoza and the garlic gyoza, both great! Next day we tried the sweet chili shrimp and the mushroom cheese risotto…oh.m.g…so delicious, we ordered a second round. No wait both times. Awesome friendly staff!! A must try while in Kyoto!

Definitely worth it to wait in line. Arrived around 8:20pm and waited about 45 minutes outside and 10 inside. The staff are so friendly and many of them speak English if you need that. The cozy interior is like an izakaya and the staff seem like a great team; they were all so upbeat which made the atmosphere fun. The gyoza was super delicious and very reasonably priced. We had the specialty chao chao gyoza, shrimp gyoza, shrimp gyoza soup, ginger pork gyoza, and the chocolate gyoza dessert. It was all great. Drinks were good too. My parents and I all together spent about ¥3,600 ($25usd). Highly recommend for both the gyoza and the atmosphere. Most of the other patrons were foreigners and that plus the wait made me and my family think maybe this place blew up somewhere on social media or something. If so, it’s worth the hype in my opinion. (edit: forgot to mention they have non-meat options as well if that’s something you are looking for!)

You see the queue in front of the restaurant? Thinking about going somewhere else? Don't! It's worth the wait.. All kinds of gyoza's available, pan fried, deep fried, boiled, with chocolate, with pork, fish, vegetarian,.... we tried a bit of everything and of course we liked some better than others, but that's different for everyone Try the main one (with pork) and the desert (with chocolate and ice cream) for sure! Also service is very nice, with English menus available. For more content, follow @foodpatroll on Instagram 📸🤳

Busy spot in a busier part of town, but massively tourist friendly if you can get a seat, and you can eat and drink until you drop for a very reasonable amount of money. If you like Japanese shochu sour drinks their selection is huge and it's all delicious.

  • 3/5 Christian K. 4 years ago on Google
The reviews are misleading!! There isn't much to gyoza/dumplings, and same goes for this place. Being an Asian American, I would say Costco dumplings are WAY better. We had a strange feeling once we arrived seeing it's on a main street. DEFINITELY touristy, it started filling up with all the same travellers. So, if you have a weak pallette for foods you'll be safe here. Nothing wrong with the place, just fell very short of our expectations for GOOD Japanese food -- for the two weeks in Japan, this was the very least liked. Keep your expectations low if you're seeking anything amazing. Good on their success though, they're doing well

I went here and had a vegan gyoza lunch set, which was amazing! This restaurant has a great atmosphere, amazing for English speakers, and large menu option for meat eaters or vegetarians. The food was delicious, the Jack Daniels Highball was great.

So delicious and such great value for lunch at 1000 yen. Gyoza is amazing, crispy and full of flavor. 6 different lunch sets to choose from. Comes with soup, rice, and 3 delicious soy quail eggs on top of the generous portion of main entrée. Would come here for lunch without hesitating again and again.

A vegetarian/vegan-friendly gyoza spot. We came here specifically because we read they had non-meat options, and we were not disappointed. If you are vegetarian, you will love the meatless options, but they even have a few vegan options as well. We got the vegan meal, which came with a drink, two gyoza, and a side. The fried tofu was the best I've ever had--light and fluffy inside with a crispy exterior. The fried mashed potatoe gyoza were sublime. We also ordered the fried cheese gyoza, which were rich and perfectly bite-sized. For dessert, we had the chocolate gyoza with vanilla ice cream. I would definitely getting it with the ice cream since the chocolate is rich and dense and balanced nicely by the smooth vanilla. The space was clean and the servers friendly and helpful. Definitely worth the visit and the money!

This place has the best gyoza I have ever had. I got the curry, red pepper, potato, and chocolate gyoza! They do also have a vegetarian menu here as well which is decent. Definitely try the chocolate gyoza, it was delicious!

Excellent place with utterly delicious gyoza. Comes with a wide range of selection (and a variety of vegetarian options too!!). Space is small, but that what makes the experience more special, cause you can mingle with the locals. Plus, staffs speak perfect English. I’ll definitely come back for more!!

The gyoza here are 💯. This location has a vegetarian/vegan menu, but they are cooked on the same kitchenware as the meat-based gyoza. About ¥5000 for two with no alcohol, but we ate a lot of dumplings (not all pictured below). Was worth it.

Fast mouth-melting gyozas for the soul ! The place is foreigner friendly (with an understandable english menu), they accept card and serve until 10:30pm, so it's an easy go to if you're lost in the variety of things Kyoto has to offer. Thanks for always receiving with a cheerful smile and the kanpai spirit ? it's always a feeling of family when sitting down at the counter ❤️ The only downside ? The place is quite small and can get crowded at night (they have around 25 seats and a counter of 8) so prepare to queue a little at peak times.

Pork gyozas were juicy and crispy. Shrimp gyozas were plump and crispy. Beef and burdock gyozas were also great. Staff is super friendly and attentive. Don’t forget to try the apple pie gyozas and ice cream for dessert!

The standard pork gyoza was nice but nothing special. Also, beware the menu shows the signature pork gyoza 16 pieces for 600yen... The appeal of the 16 gyoza sounds enticing, but the gyoza are half the size of normal gyoza, and one average person could easily eat 16-32 gyoza of this serving size. This place has good customer service, but if you want a filling meal you will be paying a lot more than you should! Great for a cheap appertiser but wouldn’t recommend for dinner!

We've absolutely loved the gyozas. The place is quite small, doesn't look too modern but it's clean and feels great for a newcomer to Japan who has had her first meal im Japan there! The staff is so nice and helpful! They speak Japanese but English too and you can ask them any doubts about the food. It was delicious!
