Our favorite restaurant we went to in Kyoto! The pork was so delicious, crispy and juicy. We also got the rice box but didn’t love it as much as the pork. Highly recommend! We had to wait for about 30 mins on a Friday night. Located in train station building.

Popular chain restaurant from Kyoto that is known for their pork cutlets. It's located upstairs and was little hard to find since it is listing as in Kyoto Porta, which is in the basement. We were lucky to not have any wait but after we were seated we saw aline form. The pork was juicy and the panko had a light crisp that provided great texture but was not heavy at all. the cabbage is unlimited and its goes well with help to digest fried food better. Overall, very good meal at a decent price.

on our first night in kyoto on a return trip wifey and I came here at 9pm since the line was way too long earlier. the pork cutlet is so delicious and not oily, tenderloin is naturally more tender, loin is chewier. miso soup is godly and rice is good as well, both of them can be refilled. shredded cabbage is also very fresh. two people set menu price 3840yen. last order at 9.30pm, definitely avoid the crowds during 6-7.30pm

On the 11th floor of Isetan is this centrally located branch of this amazing Tonkatsu chain. After you order tonkatsu, you receive a bowl with some sesame and a wooden grinder to ground the seeds. After that, you add you choice of regular or spicy sauce as you wait for your meal to arrive. I ordered the Yonezawa Sangenton Rosu set meal which came with refillable rice, finely shredded cabbage that you can add sesame dressing to, miso soup, and pickles. The loin cutlet was high quality, soft and perfectly fried encased in a light and crispy crumb. Lovingly prepared and delicious.

The tonkatsu was juicy and crispy. The texture of the panko was great. We also ordered a box with rice, egg, onion and katsu in which everything was very tasty and juicy. The tea served here was a little too smoky for our taste, but I'm sure it has its audience. We arrived at noon and had to wait a bit, but it was worth it. You can find the restaurant on the 11th floor, on the left as you go up the escalator.

The thickest and softest pork chop even made severed with unlimited authentic homemade miso soup, 🍚 and fresh cabbage! The best meal we had in japan! Long queue, better go earlier!

Second visit here and still as nice and solid as back in 2017. Located in the 11th floor, just up the escalators from the main station hall. You may have to queue outside, but it's worth the wait. The meat was a bit on the fat side, but tastewise everything was really good including the fast and friendly service.

We ordered the best pork available on the menu and another pork with crab set. The highest quality pork was tender when hot but wasn't the melt in your mouth kind. But when it turned cold, it tasted like the normal pork. Cabbage was crunchy and fresh though. I think it's overrated for the price. Staff were friendly and service was great though.

Loved this place for several reasons: 1. It’s still open in the afternoon so we could avoid the crowds and queue and still have our very late lunch (most restaurants are closed after lunch) 2. Have queued for another famous restaurant in Tokyo before and it didn’t change my mind - I still don’t think tonkatsu is worth queueing hours for (just my opinion). The tonkatsu here was great, without having to queue due to 1. 3. The seasonal special yuba was made with very fresh vegetables - you can taste the sweetness of the vegetables, a great compliment to the tonkatsu 4. The miso soup was great - they added eggplant, a refreshing addition that soaked up the taste, even my husband who doesn’t eat eggplants gladly ate it 5. The location is very convenient! And there’s an English menu & instructions for foreigners I’ll be back!

Super tasty katsu! Crunchy outside juicy meat inside. 5/5. Super good. Serving time was satisfying, staff engage with guest, explaining how to best enjoy the dishes. Presentation good, appetizing. Took the center escalator in the station, go up several times until reaching the top (the last elevator), go left inside the building and there you will find it on the left side. Price a bit high to be honest. Portion wise quite good.

Had our dinner here. I like the quality of the tonkatsu. the portion are large and good amount of cabbage. The service is very good, they frequently check if we need to top up cabbage or rices.

Fantastic service and amazing food - I love how the sauces are self service and the shredded cabbage, miso soup, and rice is refillable! Although... I didn't have much space left after inhaling the crispy and tender tonkatsu 🐷 Prices go at around ¥1,830 for a 120g tonkatsu tenderloin set meal. There might be a bit of a wait but the queue moves really fast!

I had lunch with my girlfriend at Katsura. I ordered pork tenderloin and prawn set, my girlfriend ordered pork tenderloin and veggie roll (I can’t remember what to call). We enjoy the food, the service and the restaurant atmosphere. I am not a fan of deep fried food but this is exceptional.

I’m a big fan of Tonkatsu and Ebi Furai and Katsukura satisfied my craving. I’ve eaten more Ebi Furai than I can count (it’s my favorite Japanese food), and Katsukura’s my current Top 3! Will definitely come back here again 😋

One of the most reliable tonkatsu meal, aromatic steamed japanese rice with barley. Appetizing miso soup. Freshly sliced cabbage. Rice, Soup, Veggie could be refilled. If u stay around kyoto station, this branch would be so convenience and a must ... !!!!

We came here for dinner one night. There was little wait and we were seated at a spacious table. They have menus in different languages and the staff and helpful and friendly. We ordered one hire and one rosu, as well as a large prawn. All the dishes were quite tasty and the large prawn was surprisingly large indeed. The price was reasonable, especially for the quality, and we enjoyed the meal. I would go back.

We've been here many time. Thus time was not dissapointed as always. Pork cutlet (tonkatsu) dish was nice and tender. Chawamushi was very hot and delicious. Ther service was great, they regularly serve dditional fresh cabbage to make us enjoyable. Highly recommended.

One of my favorite places in Kyoto for Tonkatsu pork cutlets. The pork was beautifully fried, crispy outside and so juicy and tender inside. Paired with the sweet, savory and tangy katsu sauce, the taste is simply amazing. The set comes with free flow of rice, salad and soup so you won't leave hungry. I'll definitely be back for more!

It was a little difficult trying to figure out how to get to this place but I am glad I persevered! I had the special menu: tenderloin, large prawn and crab claw croquette, and added on the scallops for this meal! Although the queue looked daunting, it moved pretty fast - I was seated within 30mins of queueing and food arrived shortly. There’s free flow refills for cabbage, rice and miso for set meals and I was ABSOLUTELY in love with their miso soup! It’s a simpler version of tonjiru but super delicious! I can see why this place is so popular. Staff were respectful and on the ball as well. Will visit again!

The service is very good and the waitress (安田) is very thoughtful. She will try her very best to fulfill all your requirements. I also like the food here. Their chawanmushi is great too. I will definitely come back again.

Wow! Just wow! There are 2 types of premium pork, the cheaper one is good enough. The more expensive one has a layer of fats (not really to my liking). Miso soup is 👍 Cabbage with yuzu dressing is best! Barley rice is so tasty! Above 3 are all refillable. Matcha tiramisu is tasty too if you still have stomach. Will highly recommend this place

I had a lot of good food while in Japan, but this ended up being my absolute favorite. Everything was delicious and beautifully prepared. The staff were foreigner friendly and very welcoming. The most enjoyable part for me was grinding up my own sesame seeds and getting to add it to a sauce of my choosing. Very thoughtful and definitely delicious!

We tried both the Miyagi, Yonezawa, and regular pork tenderloin. The Yonezawa was the best. It tasted almost like beef. The Miyagi was very juicy. Do yourself a favor and order the upgraded pork cuts. You won't regret it!

I didn’t know that i was dining at a famous katsu chain restaurant until I searched it later and read the reviews. It’s perhaps the best pork tenderloin katsu I have ever tasted. The price was reasonable, and mixing self-grounded sesame seeds with the katsu sauce elevated the sauce exceptionally well. Great restaurant, nice staff!

Best pork tenderloin katsu i’ve had thus far. Surprisingly tender while being well cooked and tasty.

The katsudon was so good!! Pork was tender and the sauce with egg had a great flavor. My friend ordered the set with the pork cutlet and the large shrimp. She said they were both delicious.

Good Tonkatsu! Had the limited Kyoto pork and family had the Waygu (not worth the price). The wait wasn't too bad and the rice, soup and cabbage were really tasty and can be refilled for seconds. The pork Imo was a bit overcooked compared to other Tonkatsu I've had in the past which is why it's getting four instead of five stars. Overall a great experience with good service. They have English menus and the wait staff speaks English as well

Delicious pork tonkatsu tenderloin, with free refills of barley rice and cabbage salad. Delicious! Kids meal are very generous and good value for the kids to try prawn & pork tenderloin as well. The Kyoto premium pork tonkatsu is the one to go for. Plenty of seating and friendly efficient service. Will definitely come back!

Best pork katsu I ever tasted!!! Plus they offer free refill of miso soup (legit) and barley rice. I was blown away by their miso soup!! I had 2 bowls of it. There were so many ingredients served in a bowl: lotus, yam, mushrooms, carrots, Tao pok and spring onions. It so so flavourful I tell u!! 😁 I have never tasted such yummy miso soup, this is very legit. Once you try this, you never want to drink the mainstream misos anymore. I tried the best pork katsu and the cheapest on the menu. The best was served with yuzu tonkatsu sauce. The normal one was served with sesame seeds (you have to grine it yourself) and you can choose to add spicy or non spicy tonkatsu sauce with Mustard. I loved the normal one just as nice. The standard was still there thou it was cheaper. Thankfully when I arrived, there wasn't a queue. It was about 2-3pm on a tuesday. I heard there is always a queue even before the store opened. I would say I will definitely go back there again!! Thumbs up for the good food and service! 😁 😁

Reaaally nice Tonkatsu, flavor and texture are awesome, and the spices souce goes specially good with the pork. Very good price, I would said even cheap for the good quality of food, also they offer free refills of rice, miso soup, cabbage salad and tea. Simply amazing 🙌🏻

A standard katsu place. The katsu is good, but not to the extend of impressive. It’s like the restaurant you would visit again and again around your home.

Really good pork cutlet and vegetables. Free refill miso, rice, cabbage. They have high chairs for kids but no straps for babies.

One word - WOW! Don’t leave Kyoto without visiting this place. Order their Pork Tenderloin Cutlet Set Meal (Yonezawa Sangenton pork: Sangenton Hire) and thank me later. So juicy inside, so crispy outside. I’ve listed this as one of the top 5 restaurants I’ve been to during my trip in Japan.

  • 4/5 FS 1 year ago on Google
Been there many times and still very popular. Always high standards and great prices.

This was one of my favourite meals in Japan! We waited for half an hour or so outside the restaurant as we arrived at a busy time but once inside the service was fast and the food was delicious! We tried both the pork and prawn and both were amazing! We had to wait a little while for our dessert but overall it was a great meal and I’d highly recommend Katsukura if you want to try tonkatsu!

  • 5/5 Shum V. 9 months ago on Google
It was a very tasty pork katsu meal. I ordered the higher priced pork loin and there is a choice with prawns or crab cakes. Caters to kids as well. Part of a chain but the quality was still good.

  • 3/5 Mickey M. 10 months ago on Google
Food Higher then basic Tonkatsu. The standard and high quality (Softer) is basically near in taste, I would prefer the standard Tonkatsu. Ordered the Crab Meat Cream Croquette. Chawan Mushi. Basic Tonkatsu resturant. Place, Can seat up to 30 people, kinda fast food feel … not a high end tonkatsu place but like everything in Japan, very unlikly you eat bad food … Enjoy

  • 5/5 Douglas S. 10 months ago on Google
Top notch Katsudon place in a station. The batter is light and absolutely mind blowing. Totally not greasy. The sauce for the cabbage is Yuzu rather than sesame. Very appetizing. Might be a long wait as this place can get quite crowded. Recommend to eat at off peak hours. Pairs well with a good draft beer.

Good Katsu and egg custard. We tried this place due to good reviews. If I compare this to New York katsu-Hama it’s on par.I don’t need to come to Kyoto as NYC I think we better but much ,ore expensive. Worth a try when in Kyoto.

  • 5/5 Faith S. 8 months ago on Google
The tonkatsu was incredible juicy and tender and paired amazingly well with all three sauces. Tiramisu was very good as well. Super affordable, the cheapest set goes for around 1800¥.

I had lunch at Katsukura Kyoto with my partner, and it was truly a delightful experience. Despite its quaint size, the restaurant is meticulously decorated. We thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary refills of salad, rice, and Miso soup. The staff was exceptionally courteous, reflecting the typical warmth found throughout Japan. Highly recommended for a delicious and authentic dining experience. The quality of the food, especially the breading used for frying, was outstanding.
