I’ve had lunch at Kerala restaurant several times and I’ve always had a delightful experience. The food is not only the perfect mix of spice and creaminess but is also the most authentic Indian food I have had in Kyoto and Osaka. The service and ambience is also great!

walked in 10 mins before last order and they sat me, which doesn’t happen everywhere. service super quick; had a very good pumpkin curry. restaurant is upstairs, but there’s clear signage downstairs. pretty good prices and large naan. recommended.

Some of the best Indian food I've ever had. I was very surprised. Not sure the exact name but the curry that has vegetables and fruits in the description with an order of Nan is the best Indian food I've ever had. Also got the lunch special with chicken another day and the yogurt dip was also the best ive ever had.

One of the tastiest Indian restaurant in Japan. Creamy chicken soup is the highlight (my 2yr old loved it). Best place to experience authentic Indian flavors with nice ambience. I suggest to visit this place if you wanna try real Indian cuisine.🎉🎉🎉

Completely disappointing experience with service and quality of food. We stopped by for a quick lunch since my husband was hungry and I just wanted a small side but the owner told us that this order was not possible and that we had to order two sets (even after telling him that only my husband was hungry and ready for a full meal). Since we already sat down, we just went ahead and ordered the 2 meals which seemed wasteful as only one of the meals would be finished. The second surprise came when we got the food. Both of the vegetable curries lacked variety as both had primarily large pieces of potatoes and huge chopped up pieces of onion. The samosa lacked any flavor, the “salad” was not truly a salad but shredded onion bits. The naan was not fluffy or soft like the neighboring Indian places make it. For the food and experience this place is also ridiculously overpriced (dinner menu is also double the price). If you’re looking for an authentic Indian meal & great service, please look elsewhere in the area for a more enjoyable experience. Would not recommend.

Ordered Uber eats from this restaurant and food was so good we ended up ordering again. Definitely very tasty Indian food and a pleasant surprise to find a place like this in Japan. Asked for spicy and we were not disappointed. Highly recommend. Only little shortcoming was the absence of plain rice on the menu or with the curry dishes as is customary with most Indian restaurants.

There are so many Indian restaurants in the greater Kyoto area but this is without a doubt the best. There is a reason why this place is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in Kyoto. It’s so delicious. The menu has a great selection of regular and vegetarian dishes. The service is wonderful and the atmosphere is warm and comfortable. Unlike so many other restaurants that serve bloated doughy nan bread , Kerala serves nan the traditional Indian way , thin and flavorful. The vegetable samosa is amazing and the curries are amazing! All served with kindness. The best Indian cuisine I’ve had in Japan.

This place is like a hidden gem. The food was very tasty which is unusual for most Indian restaurants in Japan. The best was the tomato soup and the non vegetarian starters. Mango lassi and deserts were good too.

Had a pathetic experience here, unfortunately this was the first place we went to after reaching Kyoto. The staff (the lady) is extremely rude. Her attitude is so bad that i felt humiliated and just wanted to leave the place as soon as possible. And let's not get started on the food. The food is far from authentic and they do not offer anything to justify the 'kerala' in their name Kerala Indian restaurant.

AVOID this place unless the only agenda for your day is stressfully queueing up for 1 meal. Food or service doesn't make this restaurant popular... It's the scarcity of Indian restaurants in the area that makes people go to this restaurant, despite zero effort from the owner to look after customers' inconveniences. THEY DON'T TAKE RESERVATIONS, NEITHER ONLINE NOR IN-PERSON. I visited with a group of friends twice over the last few days. Day 1: Reached at 8pm, there was a queue in a cramped up staircase and even though we were ready to queue, the staff asked us to queue WITHOUT any guarantee of a place before their last order time of 9pm. WHY NOT CLOSE THE QUEUE when you know you won't be able to serve?? Day 2: Reached at 2pm. Ordered 4 set meals (thalis) and drinks for 5 adults but the waiter called the manager\owner and he asked us to order a minimum of 5 set meals!! That's too much food and we didn't want to overeat on a hot day. There are only set meals and no small portions or snacks to order in the lunch menu so we couldn't order anything else to count as the 5th item but only a full fledged set meal! Hearing this 2 of our friends walked out and the owner wasn't bothered about them, which just shows they don't care about customers at all, they just want the money being at a prime spot in the area.

Very good Indian food from what I know. The prices are a bit steep compared to other places around, but it's definitely worth it if you're in the mood for some Indian cuisine. The Mutton was quite good

Could have been a 5. Arrived and were seated promptly the chap who served us was rather short and borderline rude. Either he was flustered as the place was jammed packed but regardless this had a knock-on effect as drinks service was slow and our meal took over an hour. But boy was it worth it. The chicken tikka masala was outstanding. Just hot enough with a garlic nan bread. Wifes curry was equally as tasty. Best curry we have tasted outside of the UK.

One of the best South Indian restaurants I have visited in Japan. Dosa, Medu vada, and Sambar were pretty good. We tried all the recommended food items, Kerala special Chicken and Prawn dishes, Chicken kebab, Jeera rice. All of the foods are delicious.. The ambience was nice and the staff were very friendly.. When we asked about the "Osusume" (recommendations ) and they explained in detail about each section of food and their recommendations, which made our ordering quite smooth. I'll definitely recommend this place if you want to taste authentic South Indian cuisine in Japan.

The food was not bad but not great either. The harabara kebab is marinated in saag sauce. I don’t recommend the tikki. The biryani was okay (not too bad). The dessert was really good. We had kulfi and coconut ice cream

We ordered palak paneer and navaratan korma and they were not good. The navaratan korma had fruits in it! It had pieces of peaches, pineapple, and a cherry. I've never seen that dish served with fruits!. The palak paneer was a bit better but still not the original taste. Very few pieces of paneer also. Based on other reviews, maybe these dishes are not their specialty.

A nice Indian restaurant with blend of south and north cuisines. Very beautiful interior and environment, convenient location from subway station. I would recommend to try Veg-Vada lunch and tomato soup. Tomato soup is very delicious, crunchy vada and fresh curries. Can refill curries with additional 100 yen for each.

Tally Ho! A globetrotter with ample cuisine palette on my shoulder, I am impressed with the service and taste. The kebabs and tandoor are reminiscent old Delhi style , brings fonds memories of Indian food. Some of my clientele in Japan , who are mostly traditional Japanese patrons love this restaurant. A great ambience to host for a close knit business cohort , personal set of friends and families. Rodeo ! the stewards the chefs . Top rated in Kyoto and goes highly recommended , cheers!
