The ramen here is very yummy and unique. We totally loved it and would definitely come here again. The lemon ramen is a must try. The tsukemen was delicious. Very cosy spot. Prices are very good.

To me this ramen restaurant is the mix of classic and contemporary. Nice and simple interior decoration make warm and cozy to customers. We order Lemon Ramen which was featured on TV show and it did not make us regret. The chicken soup is rich but tastes really nice because the sour of yellow lemon. Fried chicken goes really well with a glass of beer too. One special thing of this restaurant is music. They play Jazz and it makes you really delight while waiting and enjoying the food. Highly recommended!

This Ramen place sits at a prime location and with a very reasonable price . You have chance to bump into Maiko-San on that street which I did . I saw three Maiko unfortunately they have to wear Mask . But I am happy they are out at the street u like last year !!

They have AC on and it’s nice to walk-in during a hot summer day. Service is just delightful. No wait time but a steady flow of customers at this lunch time at 1 pm. Quite a lot of customers having a meal. Almost everyone was an out of Towner;( Shiyo Ramen flavour was very unique and tasty! Ladies running the shop are good !

A great tourist trap, of which we were happily trapped. Food was good, both the white and ramen were delicious. It was excellent on a cold day. The atmosphere was a 6 star setting. I’ve never felt so comfortable at a ramen place. It was so spacious and the interior was beautiful. If you give it a 5 five rating one google, they give you an egg for free. Ramen was good, but it was lacking toppings. It came with 3 little slices of meat, if you want seaweed, egg, etc, that’s an extra charge. I thought the price was a direct reflection of how well the interior was decorated. Oh the fried rice was good! But again overpriced. Fried chicken was good too.

Ordered the Tsukemen and sake pairing, thick flavourful broth and chewy noodles done just right. Very hearty and very tasty, would recommend. The matcha ice cream is thick and intense in the best way, I am leaving here feeling lucky I had the chance to visit. It is also run by an all women crew, you go girls, fantastic service and food quality in equal measure. A must visit.

+ Thick and creamy ramen broth really nicely done, the chicken slices had a zesty lemon aroma. Kaarage tasted fresh and crunchy. Can’t tell whether the matcha ice cream was homemade but it was nicely flavoured. - Ramen broth slightly gritty, not sure whether it’s a filtering issue with the stock or the schmaltz if that’s used. Pieces of ice in the ice cream, either the freezer is too cold or not taken care of.

Best ramen we’ve had so far. It’s woman owned and the staff are all very kind. The presentation of the Chinese fried rice was gorgeous. Would definitely eat here again.

Very good chicken based ramen. Tried the lemon and chicken and the cold chicken and Bonita ramen. Noodles were home made and delicious. The set is worth it as it comes with Macha ice cream after

Special ramen, first time trying with lemon. Not sour at all, the longer you soak in the soup lemonade aroma stands out Good combination, like the interior design and very comfortable place to dine Price: ¥1100 (paywave is acceptable)

Lovely place for a unique lemon chicken ramen. The broth is thick and flavoursome with slices of lemon to balance off the richness of the stock. The restaurant is newly renovated and feels so inviting that you can sit there for the entire afternoon. Definitely a must visit if you happy to be near the market.

Great black Ramen and quite a neat place to dine. The queue can be very long as there are only a couple of tables with a certain number of seatings available. You need to be early!!! The restaurant is located on the 1st floor, so arriving at the entrance of the building with the queue is deceptive... the Ramen is worth a visit though. But definitely try the green tea ice cream as desert! Extraordinary!! I enjoyed trying this one though waiting for about 2 hours was pretty tiring...

I highly recommend this spot. It sits total of 14 people. The wait time was about an hour although it was definitely worth it! Once seated the service is fast and professional. The food arrives momentarily ready for you to consume it's deliciousness. I ordered the Black ramen and the Chicken fried rice and both were very delicious. I highly recommend this spot to all, great quality and great service!

The place has an elegant and peaceful atmosphere, unusual for ramen restaurants. We sat at a table shared with 4 people (6 in total), but there are also regular tables. The ramen was good and looked good too, though in my personal taste the broth lacked something. It was not too heavy, which was appreciated.

The atmosphere is more than just a ramen shop. Lemon slices are placed above chicken soup ramen, and it is refreshing. Their homemade ice cream is delicious!

Didnt expect it would that gooooddd! Recomended for sure! Will definitely come back if I get the chance to be back in Japan in the future!

(Trip was made back then on 1 Dec 2019, 2 years before the Covid-19 Pandemic hit) Read that this place was popular for their “paitan (白汤)” style ramen, in which the bones used for to make the soup are simmered for hours until they break down into an opaque, milky broth. It is located in a refurbished machiya, with clean minimalist wooden decors, which could be mistaken for a cafe rather than a ramen shop. I ordered the ramen with sake lees, since it was a special item with limited portions made per day. The sake lees and the chicken broth made an interesting combo. It’s like drinking a super thick mushroom chicken soup with a hint of sake. The first initial bites were ok, but it gets pretty overwhelming really quickly. That, and the noodle reeked of ammonia which I totally abhor (they might have used a tad too much lye). The meal started out good but ended on a bad note. Probably it was just the wrong selection made..

Beautiful ramen restaurant with wonderful service. Husband had the white ramen and the lemon ramen. Very rich broth with delightful flavors. Definitely will be coming back.

Ambience and service was good. We order chicken ramen and fried chicken, both of them are perfect combo for our lunch. For dessert, you should try their green tea ice cream. We recommend this ramen restaurant if you visit to kyoto

This is a small but beautiful restaurant, we were here during lunch time on Friday, but luckily no need to wait. We’ve tried the Lemon ramen, fried rice and black ramen, all of them were good.

Its a beautiful small restaurant, the staff were nice and efficient. I like the lemon ramen, it tastes refreshing, and the fried rice was nice as well.

A very quaint ramen place on a quiet street in Kyoto. Yummy chicken soup base Ramen with cool jazz music in the background, the whole experience turns into something different, but still masters the classics

I had the Tsukemen and the noodles were really tasty and a hearty portion! The broth to go with was great! My husband had the lemon ramen and the broth was just extraordinary. Nice and thick chicken broth!

Great place we stumbled upon. The owner opened up the private room in the back as we're just walk ins. Chicken lemon ramen was delicious along with the fried chicken.

Beautiful restaurant and delicious food. I got the lemon ramen. I’ve been into citrus+savoury combinations. I’m glad there were slices of chicken and bamboo included in the bowl. Service was nice. The server had a kind smile. Jazz music played faintly in the background. Generally nice vibes.

Hands down the best ramen I've ever had. I went with the black soi ramen. So so good! Great ambience and energetic staff. Go with the meal set including ramen, karrage chicken and Matcha Green Tea Ice-cream for best value. Also had a lemon ramen on the menu which looked amazing. Go early before 7:00pm to avoid standing in line.

The best chicken ramen I've ever eaten. Had the black with all the toppings and it was rich flavour and extremely tasted. Partner had the lemon which was also nice if you're looking for something different. Entrance is in the side street, don't add your name to the list outside the dumpling place downstairs as it's a different restaurant. Seriously the black ramen is to die for!!!

Small 16 seat ramen place that serves chicken base soup with a short wait ~15 minutes. Soup base was too starchy and chicken was not that good, but the noodles were excellent and the taste was fine for 850 Yen. Recommend the black or the white ramen, the lemon ramen was nothing special.

Delicious and unique chicken broth ramen in a restaurant hidden on the side of a building. Staff was very friendly and the price per food was very generous

Best experience ! Tried the fried rice and it was very tasty ! The staff is wonderful and really friendly, we had the best time 🤗 They also make a lot of effort to speak in English because of our poor Japanese I will come again if I go to Kyoto

Located in an alley, this is a gem! The chicken broth is so thick and delicious! Definately 5 stars on value plus quality!

Really delicious food here and good service! Heads up that at the point of writing this review, they only accept cash payment. Piece of advice: come early to beat the queue!

Muraji is a small ramen retaaurant on a tiny Gion backstreet that I found by accident back in April 2021. It seats only 14 people and there was a line so I decided to go back for dinner that night. I thought I was early but there were already a lot of people waiting in line. I don't usually wait for hours to get into a restaurant but it looked good so decided to stick it out.... 80 mins later and I'm glad I did. This Lemon Ramen was the best ramen I've ever eaten in my life - even after 20+ years in Japan. Also had some yummy Kyoto Sake, which I thought would come in a tiny glass but the glass was quite large 🤪🍶 Highly recommend but be prepared to wait. This place is popular!

Stumbled across the gorgeous little place and got in after only a 10 min wait! Apparently there’s always a long line so we were very lucky. Food was delicious and we shared a large table with a lovely Spanish family who’s daughter is studying in Tokyo. Lovely night.

The restaurant is located in those typical Kyoto streets. Ramen was really delicious. We also had omurice with matcha ice cream. I would presonally welcome a wider choice of ramen. Pricewise were the meals really affordable. Staff is really nice and welcoming and the restaurant itself has a pleasant ambience 😊

Ramen restaurant with bench and table seating and nice atmosphere. Service was friendly, food good and good prices. Probably not the best ramen in Kyoto, but made up as a good restaurant.

Ordered the white, black ramen + the fried chicken, all tasted delicious and the fried chicken is so tender and juicy! Thanks for all the lovely ladies who worked that day! ❤️ Definitely will come again when we visit Kyoto

The place is lovely and the ambient is great, the music is very relaxing. The food was great. I had the Kyoto special, and the contrast of flavors make it very unique. The Kara-Age was super crispy and accompanied with lemon. Very recommended if you’re visiting Kyoto.

No wait for an early dinner just before 6pm. Very light and refreshing and great after a long day of travelling. Had the lemon ramen - lighter than the other options, with the set including fried chicken and dessert.

Came on a Sunday night around 7p. Wasn’t busy but took awhile for the food. Chicken was juicy, crispy and lightly battered. Ramen however was slightly salty and thick but didn’t have much flavor. Matcha ice cream and jazz music were nice though.
