We stayed two nights at this location and it was a life-changing experience. We received such amazing service and the staff and owner were so amazingly friendly. The rooms are small and quaint, but it is all part of the experience. The bathhouse is a bit small, but easy to have to yourself if you pick the right times. It really was home away from home and I never wanted to leave. If you get a chance to stay here, DO IT. You will not regret it one bit.

Fantastic place to stay in Kyoto. Traditional Japanese hotel that is clean and comfortable. The service is truly outstanding! 10 minute walk from train station. Be sure to get the Japanese breakfast which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Perfect location across from a gigantic temple, just 10 minutes walking from the train station and 20 to the best market. Joyful and friendly staff that speaks enough English, but not so much that it ruins the authenticity of the experience. The rooms are so cute and comfortable with ice cold A/C. The bathhouse was interesting. The real highlight was the superb breakfast and dinner. We tried so many new little Kyoto specialties prepared by the owner. In short, stop looking around and book this place. You'll love it!

This was my first time to ever stay at a Ryokan. The experience was exceptional. The staff were so nice and helpful, the dinner and breakfast was outstanding (plus excellent sake), and the room and bathing areas were spotlessly clean. Highly recommend a stay here, wish I could've stayed longer.

What an amazing experience at this wonderfully charming ryokan. We stayed one night here and it was a highlight of our stay in Kyoto. The ladies that operate this ryokan are so warm and welcoming, their friendly greetings are genuine and kind. They stored our luggage while we spent time in the city and when we came back, they guided us to our room. We were served with the upmost care for our delicious dinner and breakfast. Every person we encountered was so hospitable. The room was amazing and it was lovely that these ladies are so excited to share and have their guests immersed in the experience. I will not soon forget the lovely time spend here!

Absolutely fantastic, cultural experience. Amazing people manage this "hotel", providing a more old-school Japanese experience, guidance on where to go and what to do and incredible meals. Just a 10 minute walk from Tokyo station, across from the Goedi-do Hall Temple. This is the place when in cultural Kyoto to experience it at it's best with local people. Highly recommend staying here. Family of four January 2024.

We stayed at Ohanabo for a traditional ryokan experience and thoroughly enjoyed our time! We were greeted by a very welcoming front desk that spoke English and took the time to walk us through the ryokan, how to wear the yukata if we so choose, and how to use the public bath. The individual rooms also have an instruction manual on how maneuver the ryokan as well as how to use the appliances. It was our first time in the public bath, but the facilities were very clean and relaxing. We did the traditional Japanese breakfast in the morning, which we scheduled the night before with the front desk at a time of our choosing, and was some of the most delicious food we had in Japan. As an aside, I accidentally left my jacket at Ohanabo the day we left, and one of the staff chased us down as we walked towards Kyoto station to make sure I didn’t forget it, and I am so thankful! Would recommend this place for a unique experience and welcoming atmosphere.

10 stars. Your experience in Kyoto, or even in all Japan, is not complete without staying at this wonderful Ryokan. Everything was perfect, especially the attention and hospitality. Staff speaks very good English. Food was exceptionally delicious and filling. And how about finishing your day with a relaxing onsen, also included here? Very tall people might have to watch for the doors, as this Ryokan has been here for a long time. Only regret was that I did not stay longer here. Thank you so much!

This is the absolute best place to stay ever! If you're looking for a ryokan or any type of accommodation in Kyoto, stay here! The best part is the staff. They are some of the friendliest people we've ever met and were so helpful, happy and cheerful. They are also so passionate about their ryokan and their beautiful city! When we were having trouble getting to Fushimi Inari Taisha because of a road closure, one of the staff even drove us all the way there! The rooms are very traditional and spacious with modern comforts (such as AC and a modern bathroom). They even lent us yukatas with many colours to choose from. The baths are traditional and clean with great amenities. The staff also let my wife use the baths even though she has tattoos. The location is also fantastic (right across the street from Higashi Hongan-ji temple and 1 block from Shosei-en Garden) and there is plenty of delicious food and beautiful sights within walking distance! It is also super close to Kyoto station and other buses and trains! We strongly recommend staying here!

Extremely enjoyable and authentic stay, the staff were exceptional, i’ve never met friendlier staff in any other accommodation. The dinner experience was amazing and the staff were so accommodating to our dietary needs and again just exceptional service throughout dinner also. The rooms were as a traditional ryokan would be, very clean and great location. I would highly recommend this place for an authentic enjoyable experience, all the staff members just made our stay even better due to their amazing service, would love to visit again next time

Staffs are "very kind". The room I stayed was really clean. Closed to Kyoto Station. Location. Service. Cleanliness. This Hotel satisfied 3 important points. :) E-mail response was a bit late, so make a call if you need something ASAP.

This was the best hospitality experience my life! The entire staff was so genuinely excited that we were staying with them. The dinner and breakfast were truly out of this world too. I cannot recommend staying here enough for anyone who is going to be in Kyoto.

It‘s hard to find the correct words to describe our stay at this Ryokan. I guess extraordinary is what comes closest! The food (breakfast and dinner) is delicious and plenty. The location is perfect as it is in walking distance from kyoto station. The rooms are spacious. But what made our stay a once-in-a-lifetime-experience were the women who run this place, thanks for taking such good care of us! We had a blast :)

This is genuinely the best hospitality experience I had in my life. They had the friendliest of staff, from the first moment we set foot, welcoming us and immediately cleaning our luggages when we arrived in the rain. There was always a sense of warmth that we had from everyone there. The dinner was superb as well. But what really stood out was when I left my AirPods in the room upon checking out. They took it upon themselves to try to mail it back to me in another country, and when that didn’t work, personally delivered it to one of my contacts that coincidentally was in Kyoto but staying in another hotel. It was even well packaged in a box with a note of thanks for us. Thank you Mr Haruo, Ms Ayako and team, and this ryokan will definitely be at the top of my list when I visit Kyoto in the future.

First time going to Japan and heading to 2nd state after Tokyo. This Ryokan in Kyoto is absolutely clean, lovely, friendly and convenience to go about. The lady boss, staffs and all very friendly and able to communicate in english. They are very helpful and even baked special Christmas cake for us during our dinner course. They make us felt so at home and giving us a family feeling. They bid us farewell outside of the ryokan at this winter weather and keep waving goodbye to us even we walked far away from the ryokan. This makes me teared by her actions. I promised, if i have a chance to head back to Kyoto, i will book this ryokan again for my trip. 💯

Perfect stay! Traditional Ryokan very close to Kyoto Station! Rooms are quite comfortable. Staff are amazing! Very helpful and always in an awesome mood! I also had the opportunity to have breakfast there - it was the most amazing traditional breakfast ever!

We stayed there for 2 nights and we could not possibly ask for a better experience. Everything was absolutely amazing. Clean and beautiful rooms, great traditional hot bath, splendid food, both breakfast and dinner, and most importantly fantastic staff. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and so sweet to us. We had the best time there and looking to stay there again when we come back to Kyoto.

Our stay was great at Ohanabo! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the friendly staff. They let us store our luggage before check-in and after check-out which was very convenient. Kyoto Station is also only a 5 min walk from the inn so it was easy to hop on and off the train or bus. The staff was helpful and showed us the best way to travel around the city, etc. The inn is entirely covered with mats and you have to take off your shoes at the main entrance. Our bedroom was a good size and also had a private bathroom. The furnishings are traditional style so futon bed and low table/chairs on the floor. A staff member showed us around the room when we checked in and within a few mins, another member brought us hot tea. My favorite part of the stay was the breakfast. We were served traditional Japanese breakfast in a semi-private dining room (there was one other party by us). The staff explained to us each dish and served rice and miso soup along with it. They kept checking in on us throughout the meal. After we checked out, the staff asked to take a picture of us outside by their entrance sign and stayed with us till we were finally on our way.
