We had a lovely experience and a delicious meal at The Coast. The owner/pizzaiolo recommended a local Hokkaido funky light red from his selection of natural wines. It complimented the shirasu pizza perfectly. A must have if you come here… it’s full of umami and the thinly sliced garlic melts into the flavor of the shirasu. If the owner sends a bit reserved or prickly it might be because it can be a bit overwhelming when his tiny restaurant gets busy and he’s the only one taking orders, pouring and serving drinks, and cooking and serving all of the food. If there’s a quiet moment take the time to talk to him. He’s incredibly friendly and kind. Also worth noting is that he has a serious Japanese pizza lineage. He worked under a pizzaiolo in Okinawa who cut his teeth at Savoy (now Seirinkan - one of the best pizza places anywhere).

This place is a hidden gem in Otaru. Worth a drive if your up for a drive from Sapporo. The menu isn’t too big and every item we tried was great. We even ordered a second margherita pizza as the fresh local ingredients really popped through. The dough for the pizza was unbelievable thin, crispy around the edges and perfectly soft at the same time. So good, we are heading back tonight and hopefully we get a seat as this place only has seating for two tables and along the kitchen line.

Great vibe and AMAZING pizza!! Margarita pizza was very high quality, from the crust to the house made sun-dried tomatoes.

A wonderful pizza restaurant and bar. The food is perfect, and sit at the bar to watch the wood -fired pizza oven in action. Best in Otaru!

Delicious authentic Italian style pizza in an intimate setting. The dough and sauce are perfect. Not too chewy or flaky. Sauce is not too sweet. The smell of the wood fired oven was awesome, too.

Really amazing pizza. Cheese melts into a gooey umami mix with tomato and basil, crust has flavour and is slightly chewy. The owner was very kind and welcoming. Another reviewer said he had no regrets driving through a blizzard to eat pizza here and I think I agree, it's delicious!

We found this little gem back when we were in Otaru in 2019 and had to return. The food here is CRAZY GOOD and the restaurant has such a cool vibe. The chef uses excellent ingredients and everything is fresh and delicious. We ordered a green salad, margarita pizza with olives and anchovies and a pasta dish (creamy pasta with mushrooms and prosciutto) that rocked our world.

Pizza here is really good! It’s the best I have had since I was last in Napoli. Has lots of local wines to choose from and when I was there had surprisingly good music playing, rare groove and low fi hip hop. Edit- 4 months later I am in Southern Italy near Sicily, pizza at The Coast is better than anything I’ve had here.

Tucked away in an alley, a very small and cozy gem. Everything appears to be handmade with care with friendly owners. There are just a few tables and dishes are prepared one at a time fyi might be best for smaller groups.

Great Neapolitan style pizza and freshly made pasta (not the dry stuff). The owner does it all - chef, barman and serves. Worth going out of your way to get here. Food so good we came here twice during our brief Otaru visit.

If you're in Otaru and want quality wood fired pizza you must come here. The owner is a craftsman at his trade, you could tell the pleasure he got from making quality food, it was so good to watch. It's only a small restaurant with 2 tables so best to book. We got pizza and salad, and all were absolutely delicious.

Drove 40 mins through the mountains and a huge blizzard and I can say I wasn’t disappointed. Pizza was superb with every dish exceeding expectations. Seriously one of the best pizza I’m ever had and I’ve had a lot!

Small place, friendly owners, great brick oven pizza. Warm & cozy on a hokkaido winter night. Dont let the snowy alley scare you away.
