We went there over the weekend after church. The evening view is just amazing 🤩.

The Otaru Canal is an interesting boat ride. The day and night prices are slightly different (1800 day and 2000 night yen). We did not have time to take the boat ride but would likely have enjoyed it.

Very nice canal but with a poor illumination system. It would be much more beautiful if the lights were set differently at night.

Their Winter festival was more than we expected. It didn’t have the magnitude of the Sapporo winter festival but it had its own charm. Just keep in mind they close at 9pm and remove all the candles. Also they basically start the festival when the Sapporo one ends, just hopefully will be able to cath both!

It’s ok, 40 something minutes along the Otaru Canal and a good way to pass time. I made online reservation in advance and paid at the site. Every process is straightforward.

Canal street is a beautiful place to visit year around. Although the boats are seasonal. Picture opportunities are 24/7/365!!

Was a little skeptical to do a boat tour during the winter as it was chilly but I had lots of fun. Make sure to check time slots and if possible buy 45 minutes before it departs. Your purchase includes headphones that plug in the boat that translates into English, Chinese, and Korean for foreigners while the captain speaks. Overall fun experience.

Nice place and boat ride in a canal created by adding land to this coastal community; interesting place

12-August-2023 ....last day in Hokkaido... so we woke up early today just to spent morning time in otaru before taking JR to Hakodate for Shinkansen back to Tokyo this afternoon... Early morning here in summer is absolutely beautiful as you can see the sky colors! Really clear clouds ☁️

What a bad service! They made us queing for an 1 hour for NOTHING. When we're waiting in line the staff kept counting the people in line and stopping people who wants to queue after us (meaning they had enough people for that boat session and my group was the last) but when we started walking in we were stopped and told that the session is full!? Then what is the purpose of the staff counting the people in line? They should have told us it was full from the very first place!!! What a waste of time 🙄

Otaru Canal Boat I came here with my family. The attraction is very popular so going earlier is important. The office to purchase tickets opens at 10:30 while the first ride starts at 11. There are English options on the audio guide. It’s a short ride about 45 minutes through the Canal. And a small portion of the port. Lots of history is given. And explanation of what the canal was used for. Price is a little high given the tour experience but overall it’s worth giving a try if you have the time.

Fair price and the captain was very informative. Lasts about 40 minutes. Not sure how wait times are usually but we went during the Otaru Illumination festival so the we bought our tickets an hour before launch.

Good for scenic shots. But be prepared for chilling breeze from the sea

Otaru Canal (小樽運河, Otaru Unga) was a central part of the city's busy port in the first half of the 20th century. Large vessels were unloaded by smaller ships, which then transported the goods to warehouses along the canal. The Otaru Canal is a ten minute walk or a two minute bus ride down the main road from Otaru Station. A must see place if you are going to Otaru!

Cute place. One can also take a short ferry in the canal. A lot of great food options available nearby

Highly recommended. They will guide you through the history of the Otaru Canal (I'm not sure that they speak English) I personally recommend going in winter, though it's extremely cold. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery, which cannot be conveyed by pictures.

It's worth to visit here. They explain an interesting history during the boat ride. They have English translation support also. It was an enjoyable ride.

Cloudy day but still beautiful views! You can walk from the start of canal to the end of the canal around 20 minutes! There is also canal cruising around the spot! I'd like to visit this place again in the future during the winter!

I visited Otaru by the end of last March. Quite empty since the snowy part is over but it’s still beautiful to walk around and enjoy the day. For the cruise, the price will be different during the day and at night.

👍👍 The otaru canal is absolutely beautiful! This is a must go place! Well although this isn't really a tourist spot to begin with, but you can spend time walking along the canal! Is really beautiful when it snows and it also looks great at night! However I do not have a night photo to show it! You can...
