It was opened in 2005 and joined the Tokyo, Kyoto, and Nara National Museums to become the fourth national museum in the country. I was impressed by the spacious entrance hall and it took around 10 minutes' walk from Tenmangu Shrine.

Museum location itself is perfect and beautiful. In order to get here you have to passing through Tenmangu temple. When I visited the museum in April, only 4F was available. So finished watching museum in a very short time.

I walked by this museum and decided to pay it a visit. While it looked quite big in the outside there’s only one special exhibition and one regular exhibition. I expected to see something more related to Kyushu in particular but it was more about Japanese history in general. It is still a good museum though.

(Translated by Google) I went there for the first time in about 2 years. The aim is the "National Treasure of Nara Chuguji Temple" exhibition currently being held. Due to the influence of Corona, the admission ticket is purchased online in advance with a designated date and time. It seems that there are same-day tickets, but depending on the reservation situation, there may be a waiting time or you may not be able to enter. I went early on Saturday so the parking lot was vacant. By the way, the parking fee is 500 yen. The venue was not so crowded and I could see it slowly. I thought that complete measures were also taken. A lot of wonderful exhibits. The Bodhisattva half-bodhisattva statue, a national treasure, was really wonderful!

Huge museum in Fukuoka. Unfortunately, only the 4th floor was opened when visited. Parking is available but you need to take a walk up to the museum building.

🏯💫 Timeless Journey at Kyushu National Museum 🖼️✨ 🏛️🌸 Last month, our New Year's trip to Dazaifu was enriched by a visit to the Kyushu National Museum. It's a vast treasure trove where we immersed ourselves in exhibitions like the New Year Special Display, Hatsune Maki-e Trousseau, and National Treasures from the Tokugawa Art Museum. Spending over two hours, we delved deep into Japanese culture and the profound impacts of the Age of Discovery on Japan. The museum not only showcases a rich tapestry of Japanese history but also connects it with the wider world through its cultural exchange exhibitions. Its architecture, blending modernity with traditional elements, creates an inspiring backdrop for exploring the artifacts. A must-visit for anyone keen on exploring the depths of history and culture. 🕰️🌏

My second visithere! It's been 10 years since my previous one, and it's definitely has been too long! From the history of Kyushu, Japan and Fukuoka to various cultural aspects of other Asian countries, the exhibition is very well done and engaging. I highly recommend a visit of you're in the Fukuoka region.

Just getting to this place is already an exciting adventure by riding the science fiction style escalator up this endless tunnel with neon lights on the side. One thing having been said, you cannot rush through this museum as it holds so many things to see and read about with free audio headphones. One large bit focuses on the relation between Kyushu and China with another one focusing on the introduction of Buddhism and the different teachings common in Kyushu. The architecture of the museum is also worth seeing with nice additional pond and park arrangements surrounding this beautiful museum.

(Translated by Google) The location is great. It is connected to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine by a moving walkway with a long escalator. The treasure hall of Dazaifu Tenmangu is also recommended. There is also a set ticket for the Kyushu National Museum and the Treasure Hall. The escalator starts climbing the stairs every time I go, but I give up on the way. There are posters of successive exhibitions on the wall around the moving walkway. Since the outer wall is glass, there are two owl statues on the outside of the building to prevent small birds from hitting them. It might be a good idea to look for it.

(Translated by Google) As expected, it was a spectacular exhibition as there was only a national museum. The special exhibition when I visited was about the excavation of Nara. Nara is within a day trip for me, so I thought it would have been better to plan for Kyushu, but I was quite satisfied with the content. Maintaining a large museum can be difficult and expensive, but let's have the "national" and national government do their best.

You will be surprised at the relationship between Iki Tsushima and neighboring countries when you see the permanent exhibitions unique to Kyushu. It is the first national museum in a place other than the capital, and is the work of architect Kiyonori Kikutake. Fantastic museum with rotating world-class exhibits! Lots of measures being taken for COVID-19 atm, but the upside is that it’s not crowded at all. If you like a leisurely-pace, it’s a great time to visit. Check the online site for current and future exhibits. If you visit here after the shrine, you can take an elaborate escalator system up to the top to get to the museum entrance. Honestly, it’s a fantastic space for art and ancient items on display.

It was a wonderful exhibition and I really enjoyed visiting the museum. Unfortunately I was in a bit of hurry so I couldn't spend much time admiring every item on display. But if you have the time I am sure you will love the museum. The layout, lighting, background music - everything works to give you an immersive, informative and interesting viewing experience.

Nice museum, the outside is very impressive and the inside is stunning. The exhibits were nicely done. More expensive than other museums I've visited in Japan (700¥ for the general exhibit, only 1 floor of the museum) but I ended up staying almost 2 hours so I'm not complaining too much!

Well detailed history of the area and intriguing history displays. There are guides who can converse well in English plus language guides available for other languages such as French. Building itself is very clean and well kept. Food options include 2 food trucks outside, otherwise you might want to fill up at Daizaifu shopping street before heading over

Well worth the price of admission for the main exhibit. It was around $5 if I remember correctly. The film about Inō Tadataka was fascinating and I would recommend watching that before visiting the map room. You will have a greater appreciation for them. Very restricted in what pictures you can take which was nice.

There are two different exhibits at time of visit, one of them was The Okura Collection, and the other one was the Cultural Exchange. The Okura Collection was a special exhibition. The museum itself is quite large, with outstanding architectural style if viewed from outside. It would be best to visit this together with the Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, as there is a walkway connecting the two. The admission price for the special exhibit is quite expansive (with the audio guide is around 1500 yen), otherwise you can just visit the Cultural Exchange exhibit. The Cultural Exchange exhibit ticket will also give you access for a free audio guide available at the fourth floor. The museum looks very new, and the facilities is what you should be expecting of Japanese standard - very clean.

    館内に多数配置されているスタッフの目線を非常に強く感じ、あまり鑑賞に集中できなかった。密を作らないために、というのは理解できるが、よい印象とは感じられなかった。

The museum is a free reading corner It's exciting just to look at the goods department. Old-fashioned Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and a modern museum. Mismatch is good. I was impressed by the handwritten documents of Prince Shotoku and the statues of his childhood, and gave a glimpse of the history of Japan. I stopped by Tenmangu on my way home, but I didn't visit and saw only plum blossoms. The Chozuya was decorated with corona. (Translated by Google) I saw the special exhibition "National Treasure of Nara Chuguji Temple". The smile of mercy, the history of Prince Shotoku in 1400, was also published in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun (February 12). It may be too early to be healed by the smile of the Bodhisattva statue! ️ There was another "world of Tenjin auspiciousness" and I became a god. I also saw the exhibition. I saw this a little interesting. Both exhibitions are held around mid-March. (Translated by Google) Many impressions despite admission to the Chuguji exhibition and time reservation. Since the parking lot is far from the entrance, I was injured and rehabilitated, which made me feel painful. Some are not disabled, but do so temporarily. On the way back, I had my husband pick me up to the handicapped person P, but the guards didn't let me in and walked. Before that, a family member entered the disabled P lively. No one is disabled. What does the disabled person P mean? I returned with an unpleasant feeling. There are so many staff members that I have no heart. Beautiful museum with many interesting things to see. Good for people with low mobility (wide halls, places to sit, and escalator into the premises) but I wasn't able to see whether or not there was elevator access. Staff were friendly and able to answer the few questions I had about the current exhibition. It is clearly signed where photos are and aren't permitted but if in doubt, staff will assist. Audio guide was in English and contained a lot of helpful information. The temple gardens outside are amazing so ensure you allow plenty of time to explore both inside and out!

It’s truly an honour to see “The Buddhist Sculptures of Daihō’onji, Kyoto Masterpieces by Kaikei and Jōkei”, an exhibition commemorating the 800th anniversary of Temple’s founding in 2020 with great curatorshop. Make sure you don’t miss the chance to appreciate the architecture of the Museum, characterised by its gently curved structure that blends into the mountainous surroundings. The shop is excellent too.

The place is near Dazaifu so you can cover both of them in a single day. The museum has some really old artifacts from majorly Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China. There are audio books available at the counter for those who like to listen about the history of the the artifacts. The 6 statues are a major attraction.

  • 5/5 Eve H. 4 years ago on Google
Architecture of this place is beautiful. The glass windows reflect the mountains nearby, so much that they had to add lights to prevent birds from flying into it. The museum itself gives a good timeline of the Japan Kyushu area, stemming back from original settlers to more recent trade facts that led the nation to what it is today. There are different language audio guides so you can follow along.

Nice museum with lots of good quality artifacts about Asian history. Not the most interesting to me personally, as it was not interactive at all. The museum was also quite dark.

Impressive exterior, but does not really fit with the surrounding natural environment. Very big museum which makes you expect a lot of exhibits but there was just 1(nice) permanent exhibition when I went (had to pay extra for the temporary one which I didnt do). I finished it in around 1 hour.
