If you are looking for a Japanese Language school in Fukuoka or just Japan in general, you wont find any better than GenkiJacs. The teachers are really knowledgeable and friendly and the amazing staff is always there to help with any issues that might occur while you are living in Japan. I cannot recommend this school enough.

The school is conveniently located near Hakata Station, and there is bicycle parking available nearby as well. (Fukuoka is a very bike-able city!) The teachers are great, and for those taking a long-term course, the staff are incredibly helpful and dedicated to making your move to Japan successful and as easy as possible. I can't wait to come back!

I spent 4 weeks at GenkiJACS to level up my rusty Japanese. GenkiJACS support before arrival, especially in organising an apartment was super helpful - the mastered many challenged successfully. Once there, it started full steam with a lot of homework on the first day, as I had to catch up to the rest of my class (6 people). The first 2 weeks were driven by this steep learning curve, before I asked to switch to a lower level and then subsequently went more into repetition. I can definitely recommend this school - the teachers are highly motivated and supportive - although some could be a little more pushy sometimes, as classmates with lower motivation can otherwise slow down the whole class. The school mainly follows the structure and vocabulary of "Minna No Nihongo 1+2", but the lessons mostly leave the textbook aside and use whiteboard, dialogue and hand-outs. Besides school, the school organises various social events, trips, calligraphy, meet-ups etc. to get to know your classmates, Japanese people and the towns around Fukuoka.

I was studying at Genki JACS for the first time in 2019. It was just 2 month course, but it really helped me to improve my Japanese. I liked the way how teachers were teaching, they made grammar quite easy to understand and they were always helpful, if I didn't understand anything they explained it again. Staff was also very helpful, they always helped when I had any problems. I have probably nothing to complain about, maybe the only thing that school was too crowded at this time. Sometimes it was even difficult to find a place to sit during lunch breaks. But this is not a serious problem. :) Then I came for the second time for 1 year course, which started in November 2020. The biggest problem at this time is corona, my course was postponed for a month because of government restrictions, but I was even glad that I was allowed to come. School is very different than it was before. As I said, how school used to be crowded, but now is almost empty. We also have to wear facial masks and sometimes even face shields during lessons (which I personally hate). There are also sometimes online lessons instead of regular ones when the number of people with corona is increasing. However I appreciate that staff and teachers are still doing their best to keep the quality of the school even in this hard time. On the other hand, at this time I like that classes are smaller because teachers can focus more on each student, right now there are only three people in my class. In conclusion, I'm giving the best ranking because I have nothing to complain about when it comes to quality of school in general, staff, teachers etc. I have only good experince with this. Corona restrictions, this is the second thing, it's annoying and sometimes it doesn't even make sence in my opinion, but this in not a problem of the school, the school just has to obey these rules.

Very fun and fulfilling! The teachers take the time to address our individual needs and are always there to make sure you are taken care of. It's not easy to explain both the language and culture to many people from different parts of the planet, but the teachers are able to do so with diligence. Even outside the classroom, there is always something to do! Plus, you get to meet with people from all over the world, so it's a wonderful opportunity to connect with people both in Japan and from other countries! Their thorough support will help guide you during your time in Japan, and I cannot thank them enough for all their help in guiding me through mine!

Spent 1-Year studying Japanese at Genki JACS. Before starting my course, i had no knowledge of Japanese. I could not read Kanji, nor make even the simplest sentences. But from day one, you learn an immense amount of knowledge in a very relaxed and friendly way, so even for a person who might have a slower than average reading speed, i never had problem to keep up with the small max 8 student classes. Great teachers, staff and location. You will not only learn the language at the school, with all the events and activities, and the local knowledge from the staff and teachers, you will also very easily find a way to learn about the Culture and Lifestyle of Japan and Fukuoka. Could not recommend enough!

I can only speak of the online course. I'm sure the in-person education is fine, but the online course was frustrating beyond belief. The instructors talk way too fast. You can't expect me to run before I can walk, and I can barely figure out how to crawl right now. Why do you explain things in Japanese to beginners, when we can't speak the language yet? Why do you use pictures that can mean anything? Look, you put a textbook in front of me, and I'll fly right through it and ace every exam. But slap a bunch of abstract pictures on the screen, I have no idea what you want me to say. You need to understand that for beginner students, explanations in English are practically required. Otherwise you'll just be met with a screen full of blank stares. Masaki-sensei was alright though. At least he slowed down his speech when asked.

This is my second time at this superb school. All, I mean all, the instructors are top notch and different. It varies your day and experience every school day. I have many choices when it comes to Japanese schools in Japan but I choose to come back because I learn so much and the teachers and staff are always supportive and inspiring. I plan on coming back again next year for a more extended time. Fukuoka life is so easy to adapt to and that helps you focus on studying instead of all the distractions in Tokyo. So if you are serious about improving your Japanese this is the school for you.

My experience at GenkiJACS was rewarding on so many levels. Their professional and courteous staff helped me to start with zero Japanese knowledge and reach a level of conversational Japanese that I use to live and work in Japan. The style of teaching and small class sizes allowed me to practice reading, writing, speaking, and listening with quick and helpful feedback. Learning Japanese wasn't the only amazing thing about GenkiJACS! During this time, I also made many close friends with fellow students from around the world on GenkiJACS field trips. I saw beautiful places around Kyushu and gained a deeper interest in the people and culture of Japan. I couldn't have asked for a better school to attend in Japan. If you have a chance to study here for any amount of time, please do. You will be glad you did!

Very disappointed with the staff I had the chance to talk to. I talked to them, I took the online exams, I even had a chat on ZOOM with one of the teachers to enroll in a course in Kioto and they literally ghosted me. I didn't expect something like that from a Japanese school like Genki. Very sad.

I studied with GenkiJACS for one year (Jan 2021 to Dec 2021). When I first came here I didn’t know anything about Japan and couldn’t speak almost no Japanese at all. It was also my first time living on my own. But even then I didn’t feel lost for one second: this school holds your hand all the way through. You really won’t have to worry about a thing. They care for their students a lot, even now that I’m not an enrolled student anymore I know I can count on them. The staff at the reception really are amazing people and I wish they’d get much more recognition. As for the quality of education, I have absolutely nothing to complain about. I managed to pass N1 in one year and I firmly believe 80% of this achievement is thanks to this school. They even arranged 1 on 1 lessons for me, everyday, for two months, with no additional fees. I really can’t recommend this school enough, you won’t find anything better I believe:)

I've studied at Genki JACS twice now, once pre-pandemic for 6 months, and now during the pandemic. During both stays, my experience has been amazing, despite all the new hardships I'm sure the staff had to face. The teachers and staff are so helpful, and they really care about you. During my first stay, during the peak season, my class had 8 students, and now, there are 3. Because the classes are so small, you get so much more time to ask questions and the teachers get a real understanding of what your Japanese level is and how to help you improve. The staff helped me when I had to go to the ward office to register my address, I had so much anxiety but they helped me fill out all of the paperwork, made sure I had the right documents, and made sure I had their phone number in case I needed to call and ask for more help. I highly recommend studying at Genki if you're looking to study Japanese, it's the best! After my 6 month course, I knew I wanted to come back to Japan and I knew I wouldn't enjoy any other school as much as I enjoyed Genki. The one year course I'm doing now is awesome, 100% worth it for me!

It is my second time to study in this school. I intend to spend 2-3 weeks on Japanese learning every year in Gennki. The teacher , faculties and atmosphere are always comfortable. I get improved or recover from my rusty Japanese quickly in short time. It would be helpful if teachers could be stricter and more demanding to students on class and homework.

I stayed two weeks at Genki JACS Fukuoka and the experience is quite positive. The teachers are quite passionate about Japanese and the classmates too. I was in an absolute beginner course and the classmates ended up as good friends and hang out quite often with each other. The school atmosphere is quite good and we had a graduation ceremony where students who are leaving can give speeches in Japanese while getting the certificate from teachers. In terms of areas for improvement, I would suggest a relatively more fixed timetable (am course or pm course) as this would help students to better arrange their schedule to fit in both courses and extracurricular. Also I would suggest to keep a rather stable class size and avoid adding students during the week. In my second week, we had new joiners in the middle of the week and it ended up as a class of 9 which was quite crowded.

I was a 1-year student at GenkiJACS several years ago, but the wonderful experience I had still stands out in my memory. I first attended Genki in 2010, but only for a few weeks. I loved my time there so much that I vowed to come back again, and I was lucky enough to do so in 2018! Japanese is not the easiest language to learn, but the teachers here make classes a lot of fun so you'll find yourself picking up so much of the language without even realizing it. The reception staff is amazing and will go out of their way to help you -- they definitely don't get enough credit for all that they do! I've made lifelong friendships with people from all around the world, and I doubt I would have been able to do so any other way! If I have the chance, I'd love to study with them again in the future :)

Small classes are good. However, it seems that many people cannot apply because there is no two-year preparatory course. For those who want to go on to university, the two-year language course is also short.
