This restaurant has great views of Ueno Park. The interiors are very traditional Japanese, so expect to take off your shoes before you enter. If you don't have a booking, the seating is only for one hour. Otherwise it's two hours. We were seated in a tatami room. The food is very traditional as well. Don't expect soba or sushi at this place. We had the meal set which had a little bit of everything - cold vegetables, pickles, tofu, sashimi, chawanmushi, grilled fish, miso soup and rice. The meal is beautifully put together and the servers were very attentive. There is also an option for a separate set menu that takes two hours and is only available if you have a booking.

Beautiful traditional Japanese restaurant. This is not a place you go to feed, but rather to live an experience. Went for the longest Kaiseki variant and did not regret it one bit. Everything was so fine and delicate ... it was just exquisite. The tuna sashimi that was part of one of the courses was the best I ever had. Service was on par with the quality of the food. Just make sure you have enough time (about two hours), and make a reservation ahead of time.

This is a hidden gem. We were lucky enough to get a table with no reservation, like Anthony Bourdain. The lunch menus were incredibly exquisite, with delicious sashimi, various types of tofu, miso soups, and a delicious octopus rice and ice-cold noodles. Our daughters had the best kids menu, and ate more than in the rest of the trip. The lady serving us went above and beyond. Highly recommended!

The building itself is an experience, walking through the wooden maze-like hallways that we almost accidentally walk down their kitchen while trying to find the exit 😂 We were given the terrace seat during the Sakura season so it was really beautiful with the sakura petals falling down on our table (and into our food and drinks haha). We had the 5k+ yen course for lunch and although everything looked dainty and small, we ended up so full at the end of it we almost couldn't stuff down the desserts. The tea they served at the end of the course had a very homey taste, like genmai tea without the roasty note. We were told it was tea made from soy pulp! It goes great at the end of meals so we decided to purchase it (they sell it near the cashier) and it's called Okara Tea. Very recommended if you are looking for an all out Japanese cuisine experience with beautiful scenery while you dine.

Went on 29 Dec at 1130am and there was no queue. Was seated very quickly. Staff was very friendly and switched to english when they realised I didn’t understand japanese. They also gave me an english menu. Got the Hanakago honzen set and loved everything in it, especially different ways they prepared soy beans and elegantly mixed it into the dishes.

The restaurant was empty and people entered without reservation, but when i tried, just because i don't look local or my cloth was not too formal, they didn't let me in. So sad, that never happened to me here in Japan. Hope you learn form your mistakes.

Extremely nice employees. Very respectful and kind. They will ask you to take off ur shoe upon entering and hand over ur umbrella if you brought one. The lunch specials are amazing and fairly priced 🙂 the mochi dessert is good too!

Traditional kaiseki cuisine focusing on soybean. Wooden treehouse w nice scenary. Beautiful dish presentation exquisite variety. My wife loved it although I felt it was a bit overrated. More for ppl who enjoy healthy soy dishes and light flavours.

Make reservations online. Arrived 3pm and was promptly seated. Beautiful scenery and attentive staff. We had a table for four so we had our little private area. Price was great considering the meal served. Come for the experience.

We were lucky to get a table without reservation on Saturday. It’s such a nice traditional Japanese lunch. The food was beautifully presented. There are so many different varieties of food in the set menu and each one of them is prepared in different ways.

Everything about this place is 5 stars. Amazing food, tranquil ambiance, and unmatched hospitality. This 140 year old restaurant is located smack bang in the middle of Uenokoen, so the view is simply incredible. Be sure not to eat anything beforehand, because you definitely will not go home hungry. The kaiseki meal is expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The price is very fair considering the quality of food and service. You owe it to yourself to try this place. Highly highly recommended.

A gem of a restaurant secluded away from the bustling shopping streets of Ueno. Dining here is a treat for the senses as you are presented with delicious morsels of various dishes while enjoying the beautiful decor of the restaurant and surrounding gardens. Their lunch menu sets are also fairly priced.

It was the first night of my March 2023 trip to Japan, and I decided I wanted to go somewhere special. Thankfully, there was a seat available at Inshotei. The food was lovely, the service friendly, and the braziers were burning on a cold, early Spring night. It was the perfect beginning to my holiday.

Lunch is good, but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere of the place, however, is the real selling point. Maybe dinner is better.

#foodreview for #googlemaps - starving #latelunch - told husband to find any place in #uenopark to eat that welcomes kids - this is a traditional dining place with sakura view - quite pricey but you feel like you are dining in #japanhour TV show 🇯🇵 we ended up feeling too full

Walked in without reservation. Had the kaiseki set. As I don't understand Japanese, they took effort to try explain the ingredients they use in each dish. The food, service, experience was awesome. I had a great time. Will be back.

Nice place to have a lunch in the Ueno park. You should wait in line unless you don’t have a reservation. The best way to avoid a long line is to put your name on the waiting list before you take a walk around the Ueno park. The food is too beautiful to have and the price is a bit expensive. However it’s pretty reasonable considering it’s a traditional Japanese Kaiseki cuisine. Most of all the service is excellent.

The food was a little strange for us, most of them had mochi-like textures. Feels exotic and a little bit icky and we wish we could appreciate it better. The place was superb though, definitely cozy enough to warm you up in the cold. I'd enjoy it better if there were more meat dishes 😆

I am amazed at the efforts that they put in to make these little pieces look so beautiful. Simple food but they taste wonderfully balanced. The desert green mochi is amazingly soft.
