2020-2 Miyamoto Musashi spent the last five years of his life in Kumamoto. It is a well-known story that he wrote the Book of War and the Book of Five Rings while holed up in Reigan-do, a cave at the foot of Mt. Kinpu to the west of Kumamoto City. This cave is located on the mountain behind Unganzenji Temple, which is known as a mysterious sacred site, and a statue of Kannon, known as Iwato Kannon, was enshrined inside the cave. The writing carved into the rock is also difficult to read, but if you look up you can see it.

When I went there, I found it to be a surprisingly large cave (I don't know because the back is closed, but maybe it's deeper?). You can reach it by paying 300 yen at the entrance and proceeding while looking at the 500 Arhats. (Maybe) It's like a rocky area made of Aso welded tuff, so it feels like it might be slippery. There are handrails in place, but I think it would be better to wear sports shoes. Also, the stairs up to the cave are quite steep, so I think sports shoes are best. There is a parking lot in front of the temple, but the road is quite narrow, so I think it would be better to use the parking lot along Pilot Road.

Over the time of a few years, Musashi Miyamoto wrote the book of five rings here. Quite a hike to get here so remember to wear shoes.

I went there because I was told it was famous for Miyamoto Musashi. It's a short walk from the temple. There were stone stairs and rocks to climb up and down, and since it was raining, I held onto the handrails and walked carefully. I can't walk in high heels. The great swordsman Miyamoto Musashi wrote the Book of Five Rings here. I also wanted to read the Book of Five Rings. About 30 to 40 years ago, it was read even in foreign countries to learn about Japanese people. It's scary to think about how a samurai feels when he risks his life fighting with a sword. I think he would not have been able to win unless his mental ability was even better than his ability to swing a sword. Was Bushido born under such circumstances?

This is the cave where Miyamoto Musashi, who spent his last years in Higo, commuted from the castle town and wrote his book of military tactics, ``The Book of Five Rings.'' ️ Died in 1645 at the age of 62. At that time, it must have been in the category of great death... Be careful of the steep stairs ❗ The Gohyaku Arhats fell into an illusion as if they had traveled to another world 💫 I don't feel very good, but it might be a power spot. The parking lot is convenient because it's close to Ungonzenji Temple.Admission fee: 300 yen.

On the way from the tea house on Mt. Kinpusan pass in Kumamoto City to Kawachi-cho, the village of mandarin oranges, there is a place famous for the Reiku Cave, where it is said that Miyamoto Musashi wrote the Book of Five Rings in his later years, and the statue of the Five Hundred Arhats. There is Yunku Zen Temple. When you enter the precincts after paying an admission fee of 300 yen, you will see five hundred old statues of Arhats, and behind them is the mysterious Reiko Cave. It was here that Miyamoto Musashi quietly looked into himself. thought.

There is the story of Miyamoto Musashi. The path to the cave alone is worth seeing.
