A poignant story of how war affects innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire. I like how the setup of the museum succeeds in making the visit enjoyable while avoiding the draggy-ness of over-information. The testimonials and accounts of the last days before the surrender were very interesting - glad there was English translation at that one booth in the room filled with Japanese scripts. The life-sized cave that opens up to the entrance of the museum is a nice touch too. Tip for drivers using Gmaps: Don’t put Himeyuri Museum as your destination and follow the route blindly, as I did. You’ll end up in a no man’s land below a hill the museum is located. Instead, put Himeyuri Memorial Tower as the destination and you’ll find some parking near the museum.

I have been to a lot of museums in Japan that have been about the War, but I think this museum stood out the most for me. Excellently presented, a very interesting exhibition with items that belonged to the students. Very, very sad but it’s important that their stories will never be forgotten. I’ll definitely go again! RIP.

Should be a mandatory visit for all tourists in Okinawa, and especially for all the service members.

The museum has sufficient translation to English to make it accessible to non-Japanese speakers. The museum is not big but is informative and will definitely prompt visitors to ponder the cruelty of wars. It wasn't easy for a Chinese like myself to visit but I think the museum has done its best to present historic facts with a neutral tone. Definitely worth visiting.

300¥ adult entry fee A very moving, small museum devoted to the female students and their teachers who performed nursing duties during the 3 month siege of Okinawa by American forces at the end of WW2. Most were killed after dealing with un-human conditions. It’s a terrible story told here, and the short film on display will bring tears to your eyes. The no-entry cave where some of them performed their nursing duties and where they were killed is located right in front of the museum. Definitely worth a visit.

This was an experience to remember. It was emotional but it was also great to pay my respects to those who had fallen. Bring flowers while you give the memorial a moment of silence.

The museum was very interesting and well made. The testomonies were poignant, and I learned a lot about the horrors that happened in the area during the war. It was a bit complicated to come from Naha by public transport, but if you have a car it's not far.

Visiting a museum about war is important as it provides a tangible connection to history, fostering a deeper understanding of the past This one like others in the world worth the visit....just to confirm human's stupidity

Incredibly well-put together memorial/museum honoring the memories and trials of a group of (young) people forsaken by their country while being attacked by outside forces. A beautiful, sobering reminder of the humanity lost in times of conflict. Just about every piece of material is translated with perfect English. I think only some of the poems weren't translated, which I understand.

Stunning yet so sad. The videos and stories provided in the museum made me burst into tears. War is truly horrible. I think this museum did an amazing job of presenting everything that has happened on this island.

It goes to show that in war there is no winner. Lives are shattered, lost and displaced. After visiting this place, it serves as a reminder to never ever go to war at all costs.

There is a really sad and serene history behind this musuem. As we didnt have enough time, we didn't enter the musuem.

A moving museum about 240 students (all girls) the majority of whom died during the fighting in Okinawa. It's difficult not to be moved when you enter the room with the portraits of all the girls. There lots of information in English.

Very informational and easy to navigate museum. The price is affordable and the path is linear from start to finish. I am somewhat of a history buff so I drew insight from learning about the experiences of the Himeyuri students. No photography is allowed inside the museum, but that did not bother me. I took extra time to read everything and ponder what it must have been like for those girls...

A relatively nice place to visit for tourists compared to museum in the Naha city. Their translations are more ready for visitors to read. It was good to show tourists about the wwII history. Nice place to visit and the history shown was saddening.
