Quaint "showa era" park set half way up a mountain. Great views both up and down! All of the rides were pretty old and even a bit sketchy safety wise by typical western sensibilities, but they are probably about par for the course for what it parents road around in back in the 60's. Food was sub-par even by matsuri food standards. I didn't like how you had to buy tickets and use them for each and every ride. We burned through 3 ¥1500 tickets in about 45 minutes with just our trip small children. I would plan to spread things out and mix in seeing some animals between rides to stretch your yennies a little further.

I went with the family during Hanami and they boast to have over 3000 Sakura trees. It was really beautiful because we had a really great day of Sun and warm weather. A cable car takes you up to the site which was fun. The rides were okay but great for little kids. Getting a ride pass might be worth it if you plan to go on a lot of rides.

It's nice to bring your kids here. Old style theme park, but interesting in many ways. I think it was the first theme park in Japan. Something like 80 years of history.

Fun for a couple of hours. This very dated amusement was a nice visit for young kids. Riding the cable car to the top was fun and the views are amazing. As with most zoos in Japan, I hated how the animals are kept. Tiny inadequate cages have left the wildlife looking miserable and unhealthy.

Avoid this place until they take better care of their animals. While the cherry blossoms were beautiful, most of the rides were showing their age and the animals were in terrible enclosures lacking any mental stimulation. If they improved their animal welfare I would have given 4 stars.

Great place to enjoy with family. Went their during cherry blossom “Sakura” season, with a wonderful views. It is an amusement park with a lot of wonderful activities for kids. There are different type go merry-go-rounds located in the top of the mountain hill, which provides extra enjoyment while riding them.

Very nostalgic theme park. You can pay per attraction (400 yen). A ride in the big attractions is double the price for an adult. You can also pay a one time fee for unlimited rides.

The weirdest, most wonderful, jankiest theme park in the world. Highlight of my trip to Japan, complete with a cafe that cooks food in an Onsen. Less sure about the chimp, vulture and other animals...

This place has long history as Japanese classical amusement park and adults can feel nostalgic atmosphere of few decades ago in Japan while kids enjoy classical attractions in the park. If you are interested in such kind of Japanese atmosphere, worth to visit, but probably hard to have fun with only adults. The park is suitable for kids (about 8-9 years old or younger) or families accompanying kids. I think kids 9 -10 years old or more tend to like other amusement parks designated for adults. We took two kids under 3 years old and they could have fun with attractions, pool, seeing animals, and barbeque. Another good aspect is that since the park is not too large, it is not too hard for parents to walk around with small kids compared with large scale amusement parks. There were many families with kids but not very crowded. We had to wait for buying entrance tickets and taking cable car to enter the park for about 15 minutes but it did not big deal. When we visit to the park, Kakigori (Shaved ice) quick-eating contest was held and we participated. We had fun time thanks to this interesting event by well performed staffs. Spending time in Rakutenchi was absolutely wonderful summer memory for us. I would love to visit again for other seasons if we had a chance while our kids are small.

Family friendly, reasonably priced amusement park located in Beppu. It had a really nice view of the Bay of Beppu and surrounds. For the basic entry fee of ¥1300 for Adults, which includes a free cable car ride to and from the park and a free entry to the scenic hot spring bath. (You can do other rides like rollercoasters etc at extra cost) Facilities and rides were a bit outdated but somehow adds the nice retro feel to the place. I recommend this place, it's like visiting a scenic lookout with extra perks.
