九品（くぼん）の滝の名前の由来ですが
上滝（約10m）・中滝（約8m）・下滝（約3m）と三段になっている滝のさまが
生前の行いによって、往生する浄土のレベルに上品（じょうぼん）・中品（ちゅうぼん）・下品（げぼん）の三段階があり、
さらに各々に上生（じょうしょう）・中生（ちゅうしょう）・下生（げしょう）があって、
3品×3生で9段階（九品）になると言う、
仏教の九品往生思想を思わせることから来ているらしいです。
非の打ち所の無い善人が往生する、上品上生（じょうぼんじょうしょう）が九品の最高レベルとなります。
上品（じょうひん）、下品（げひん）の言葉の由来
とも言われています。
GoogleMapで案内される最大7〜8台ほどクルマが停車できる場所（私が行ったときは5台停まっていてまだ余裕がありました。）から
「九品の滝」の石柱を左手に見ながら奥に進むと、
「この先、九品の滝には歩いてお入りください」の看板があります。
そこから徒歩で5分もかからずに滝にたどり着けます。
滝の横を赤い手すりの付いた階段で上がることが出来ます。
キチンとした階段のところもあれば、岩場そのままの感じで水が出ていて足場が悪く滑りやすいところもあります。
雨の後などはさらに滑りやすいと思うので歩きやすく、滑りにくい靴で行きましょう。
