This is a very cool museum. Both the outside of the museum with its unique architecture and the inside with all the wonderful Nebuta displays. I've posted some pictures but didn't include all of the floats so as to not ruin the experience. It's worth going to see these displays in three dimensions as they really are quite beautiful and detailed.

A cultural experience and it was amazing to see them live. There was a very reasonable entry fee which was collected at level 2. They exhibited the top few selections at the museum and they were enormous in size. It will be an awesome sight to witness the actual parade but we wasn’t here at the right time. But it was definitely something that I would recommend for visitors to take a look inside the museum.

Well curated, maintained and affordable to visit! Why would you NOT stop into this place while in Aomori!? See the famous floats used in the parades of past years, get up close and personal with the inner workings and read about the creators/sculptors and past winners. Their shop isn't to be missed, you can easily spend 1-2 hours here if time allows. It's a large "open warehouse" style museum, great for kids to aw at the wonder of these hand created floats. It was a perfect stop for our all too short day in Aomori.

A great place to visit if you aren't able to see the Nebuta festival itself. This museum gives you a chance to view the floats up close and really take in all of the details. Photos don't do justice to how enormous and complex they are.

Awesome modern museum that tells you the history of these traditional parades and floats. It's not very big but lots of detail and history. They have a few live shows and demonstrations per day. Check the time table so you can catch a show. Your ticket allows for re-entry. Free lockers available on the first floor. Tickets can be purchased on the second floor.

Unique architecture from the outside. Impressive displays inside. The floats on display change every year so you get to see different floats depending on which year you go. There’s a section on Nebuta Festival’s history but it’s in Japanese. One can appreciate the photos though and see how the festival has grown.

A great exhibition for learning the history and the craftsmanship of the Nebuta float from different generations of masters. There's a cafe on the first floor for a simple and quick meal.

Worth the entry fee. A well put together museum showing you the history of the festival along with a large hall full of recent lantern floats. An hourly 10 minute video shows and they also have three live performances it seems.

Most famous spot in Aomori This museum has describes Aomori unique tradition perfectly and beautifully. Even the museum is not that large but we spent quite some time in there to admire Japanese craft and art. For parking, you can park in parking area which cost very reasonable price if you compare to other parking area in larger cities

This museum is just right in front if the station, in winter they also showing kids made paper lamp outside the museum. The museum itself is not that big bur it worth to visit.

You must visit if you wish to understand the floats and pageantry behind their designs. Well laid out, and you can try drawing your own god.

Really different vibe inside the museum, really enjoyed every minute here. The Nebuta statues are so intriguing with interesting facial expressions and stories to tell. If you visit around 11:00, 13:00 or 15:00 you can witness a small performance too. The workshops are not on at the moment due to Covid.

Photos don't do justice. Lightworks and art needs to be seen to be appreciated. We met a good English speaking senior and she's so helpful.

The Nebuta Museum WA RASSE, or ねぶたの家 ワ・ラッセ in Japanese, is a museum in Aomori, Japan, dedicated to the Nebuta Festival. It showcases the history, art, and cultural significance of the Nebuta Festival, which is a famous summer festival in Aomori known for its large illuminated lantern floats. The museum provides a fascinating insight into this traditional Japanese event.

Great Museum to experience the festival floats up close. I hope I can see the festival in the future. I enjoyed a nice fresh fish in the restaurant afterwards and walked over to the A building where they sell lots of souvenirs from the area. They also have restaurants and gelatos.

It's a genuinely unique experience. The museum has recent year lanterns and provides full details about Nebuta history. Even if you didn't catch the Nebuta festival, they show a 10-minute show every 30 minutes. The entrance fee is 620 yen (2023 Oct)

Several amazing float or that may be some other name. Good experience. The Apple juice that they sell near the entrance was very sweet.

Post nebuta syndrome hits so visited the museum to capture that nebuta feels. Guides shared that the current year nebuta will replace the existing displayed ones soon. The live demonstration of nebuta music making was fun too. You can also see the process of making the nebuta floats and touching them.

Fabulous displays of the Nebuta sculptures. There are mixed language short movies to explain the history. Great photo opportunities. Good for those of us not lucky enough to get tickets for the festival.

Well It is a disappointment to not to get a view of nebuta festival due to covid, still this museum displays the overall theme of the festival. The museum is small though it serves the need. The lights were good and fun to watch those funny expressions, you can be get ticket till 17:00 and allowed to view till 19:00 so don’t worry if you are going late.It is very near to the station and you can buy the nebuta merchandise etc.

One if the highlights of my entire trip to Japan, WAY better than expected. Is very near to a JR train station, so if you have the time, just go and you won't regretted... My recommendation would be, don't look for too many spoilers of the design inside.

Impressive is not enough, the skills, knowledge, experience in building up that Nebuta characters in that massive size are all among others, for the Nebuta presence. Amazing details of colors and wired frame that tied perfectly are second to none to the best of my knowledge in some other countries. My respect to the people wbo invloved in the creation from A to Z. Tha k you Aomori.

A short distance from Aomori station, the Nebuta museum showcases these impressive, large lanterns used in the festival. The artwork is exquisite, retelling Japanese legends. You get to see how the 3D details are achieved. Intricate details such as fire breathing dragons is reminiscent of modern day Japanese anime. There is also a short video with English subtitles about the history of the festival.

  • 5/5 Scott W. 1 year ago on Google
Located directly across the street from the train/bus station. Ticket for an adult was around ¥600. Though the displays are in Japanese there is a QR code to scan to receive information in English. The museum starts on the 2nd floor.
