No WiFi: -1 Star Cash Only: -1 Star Tiny Bath (can only fit 2-3 people MAX): -1 Star Bugs in my futon upon arrival: -99999999 Stars Immediately upon arriving I was super excited about this place. The location is absolutely amazing, but this review is not for the location. So many stupid, easily fixable problems that just highlights either laziness, incompetence, or both. As a previous reviewer said, there is no private place to charge your stuff and the power output in the communal charging area is incredibly low, so it will take you hours to get a full charge. Some of these issues are so easy to fix that I don’t know why they haven’t… Btw, I haven’t even had dinner or gone to sleep yet. I am staying in the cheapest accommodation and that is 13,500yen. For what!? You are honestly better off just camping. I’ll never make the stupid mistake of staying here again….

Not worth the money: service not in line with price (23000 yens per night per person). No choice of food for diner. No early breakfast (not possible to have breakfast before leaving for a day hike). No western style breakfast. No access to the toilets after 8am. No light / electricity after 9pm. No WI-FI. Tiny room (western style B). Super tiny bath. Cash-only. No trash bin (except for stuffs bought from the hotel).

Stayed for 2nights Nice place, and staff very friendly.Caution for a cellphone be robed. My i-phone Charging cable was stolen. It’s very terrible when you can not buy a new one among in the forest.Because this place has a share Power-socket system.I’m realize the hotel not take a responsibility for any lose. But I had no choice to charge my cellphone.Want to hotel set a security camera near the charging station to prevent rob or separate power socket to each room.

Pro’s: Nice location Clean Dinner was very nice Cons: Price is nowhere near what you should pay for this site. 14,500 for a cubicle and having a shared shower and toilet is way too much. Easier to camp here. Hardly any amenities. The staff were pretty uptight about a few circumstances.

Small restaurant cum cafe en route the karasawa hiking route. There are huge lawns where people pitch tents for camping. The food can be little expensive.

We stayed here for two nights and had the most incredible time! My partner and I don't speak Japanese, and the staff always went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The Japanese baths and room were lovely, but the highlight was the meals (which were included) - extremely personalised, huge and delicious! They were also exceptionally good at catering for dietary requirements (including vegetarianism) and even offered advice on the best way to eat the traditional Japanese food provided. The walk from Kamikochi bus station is about 2 hours, but the path is well-maintained and it's relatively flat. The surrounding countryside is, of course, stunning, and being so removed from the Kamikochi centre means the environment is very peaceful. When booking we didn't know exactly what to expect, and thought the price quite high, but after visiting we think it was definitely worth it!

Stayed here for 2 nights and really enjoyed my time here. Tokusawa-en serves as a nice mid point for hikers aiming to climb to Karasawa Hutte. The rooms are comfortable, staff speak good English and are very helpful and friendly. We were concerned about how the Typhoon would affect our travel plans and the staff helped to check if the trains were closing. Also, the dinner is excellent!

I loved this place. Amazing setting surrounded by mountains accessible by a beautiful walk up the river valley. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The meals were exquisite and the onsen has a lovely view of the mountains.

This is a great place to enjoy the outdoors in Kamikochi. Stay in the lodge or bring your own tent...either way is fine and the facilities and staff are really good.

I really enjoyed the stay at Room type A. The food and the service are awesome. The fact that no wifi and no in-room electricity after 9pm is a great way to let the traveler enjoy the natural environment and save energy.

A wonderful place that shouldn't miss . The location is far away from the crowd, so you can enjoy a quiet moment in kamikochi nature. The staff are super helpful and friendly, plus a clean and cozy Japanese style room, a delicious and well prepared dinner and breakfast, and a super relax onsen after a long walk, this place is definitely one of the reward after hike. Although it is a little pricey, but it is definitely worth it.

I enjoyed a one-day camping experience at this location. The camping fee was 1500¥ per tent. There were drinking water and toilet facilities nearby, although the toilets were not the best but manageable. Close to the campsite, there's a hotel where you can take a shower for 1000¥, and they provide one towel for your use. 😂 Additionally, I had a delightful breakfast the following morning, and while there was an option for dinner, unfortunately, it was already finished by the time I arrived.

Our 2 night stay at Tokusawa-en was one of the highlights of our entire Japan trip. We stayed at the lodge in the traditional Japanese style rooms. Rates were reasonable, especially given the fact that both dinner and breakfast are high quality meals. We didn't have a bad meal in our two weeks of travel through Japan, but both meals here remain highlights of the trip. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and as English speakers with minimal Japanese we ran into zero issues. Reservations were done easily via email and they were very communicative with all of my random follow up questions I had leading to our arrival. Lodge is beautiful, location is perfect and the onsen is a delight after a long day of hiking. Autumn in Kamikochi very well may be one of the nicest spots to relax, and this lodge is the best place to do it. Lastly, this is not a review of the lodge but of logistics. It is a small hike into the lodge, but there is over night baggage storage for around 500 yen per bag per night at Kamikochi bus station. Extremely useful information not in my guide books - I packed backpacking bags but wish I had known so I would have brought a bigger piece of luggage on my overall trip!

We stayed here one night after descending from Karasawa Hutte. The location is great for this, as you can rest here and then the day after you have to walk only 3 hours to get to Kamikochi's bus stop. We stayed also one night at the Hutte and one night in another place on the other side of the river when we arrived, and Tokusawa for sure offered the best food among the 3. Everything was tasty and even the tea served at dinner was so good - I believe it was a premium Sencha. We booked last minute and they accommodated us and also had a great vegetarian set for me, even including plant-based meat. We stayed in the shared dorm, everyone has a tiny capsule to sleep in, but it's all in wood and not too claustrophobic. Some have windows, some don't. The shared bathrooms were always clean. There is a wonderful hot bath that we could enjoy and very beautiful common spaces. We could enjoy the garden and it felt like a holiday in a beautiful lodge even if it was really cheap sleeping in the dorm. I just would have preferred if the dorm was only for women or at least there was that option. Only one woman in the staff spoke English and I felt she was really overwhelmed handling 1000 things at the time and we felt bad having to ask her anything, when we tried communicating with the rest of the staff using Google Translate they called her anyway. We for sure want to learn some basic Japanese for the next trip and it was our fault, but I think in such a big touristic hotel it would be good to have more than one person who can communicate in basic English.

Unless you absolutely love camping and cooking outdoors, there is absolutely no reason not to stay at this hotel!

Food was overpriced, they won’t let you use their shower even if you rent a space for your tent, service was bad,the lady even told me not to go inside the place, even though I just want the information for the hotel prices,I will not visit this place anymore 😠
