A beautiful shrine, a must visit if you are in Nagoya. The grounds are large but the shrine itself was compact. I am guessing that not many tourists come here as all the signs are in Japanese only, so a translation app is recommended if you do not speak Japanese. It is worth reading about the significance of the shrine as well, and the sacred sword contained inside, which is hidden from public view. Definitely recommend if you are in Nagoya.

The Atsuta Shrine, in the heart of the city of Nagoya, is the most important Shinto shrine in Japan, and attracts more than five million visitors each year. Established in the first century, this religious site is famous for its preserved Imperial insignia, the "grass-mowing sword" (kusanagi-no-tsurugi), one of only three in the country. Also of interest are its principal shrine, Hongu, surrounded by an enclosing wall, and the treasury with its numerous works of art, including old and modern paintings, ceramics, jewelry, and traditional masks. While in Nagoya, be sure to also visit Nagoya Castle. This splendid moated complex was built in 1612 and boasts a 48-meter-high main tower that is famous for its two gilded dolphins (shachi). It's also a popular place to visit for its museum, containing art treasures from the former palace, and its spectacular views over the city and the Nobi Plain.

Had a nice walk in the forest outside the shrine. The sacred Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi sword is housed within the premises but unfortunately the visitors are not allowed to see it.

Gorgeous shrine in Nagoya. Worth the trek from Nagoya station! I visited during pouring rain and it was still beautiful and pleasant. The sacred pathway is just gorgeous lined with huge trees and well marked path. I loved walking through it so much I walked through it twice. If you are visiting the Atsuta Jingu, be sure not to miss the nearby famous eel place and the famous sweets shop 尾張名古屋 亀屋芳広本店 Kameya Yoshihiro! The red bean deserts as well as the western deserts are just to-die-for!! This is a must visit for Nagoya!

We came here for 初詣(first shrine visit of the year) and as expected, there’s a lot of people! So many food displays too! But there’s not much benches to sit on. There’s also 🐓 everywhere here and Japanese seemed to be interested to it by taking photos of it. I wonder why? I think it’s the best shrine to visit. Even if it’s in the city you can feel serenity because of the nature.

Shrine is located about 10 minutes away from Atsuta Jingu Station. There’s a nice path that will lead you around the shrine and will take you about 15 minutes stroll to experience the peace and serenity of the surrounding. I visited on Tuesday morning and it wasn’t crowded. A beautiful shrine worth the visit when you’re in Nagoya.

Great location for a walk! Outdoor dinning is available. Bring bug spray or prepare to be eaten alive! The mosquitoes are terrible! We brought deep wood spray. The swords on display were great. However, the scared sword is not available for viewing.

Great place to go with family/ friends. It's a place with a long history. Roughly it takes around 1 hour to cover the entire area. There are few restuarants and food stalls inside the premises. Washrooms available. Enough parking spaces available. I think evening is the best time to visit here.

Serene and fascinating. It is said that Atsuta Jingu is one of the most important shrines in Japan. It houses one of the three imperial regalia that proves imperial succession, a sacred sword ~ the Kusanagi-no-Mitsurugi, which literally means “grass-mowing sword”. Aside from the interesting fact that one of the imperial regalia is a grass mowing sword, Atsuta Jingu in itself is a fascinating place to visit. It was founded in 113! That’s more than 1,900 years of history!

Pretty beautiful place that can be reached from the Atsuta station via JR pass. The park itself is beautiful with a nice looking boat structure that kids seem to adore. The nice looking wooden Tori gates around and the beautifully built shrine are definitely worth the time to enjoy the sights. You can buy amulets and fortunes at the shrine but they are slightly pricey at 1000 yen and 200 yen respectively . We thoroughly enjoyed walking around the clean park with toilets present. There was one store which was really popular selling udon. Be careful of the crowd there as they do steal peoples food.

Interesting park with rich history. Also good for a relaxing walk. I was not aware that you cannot see the divine sword as it is protected inside the shrine. Many other exhibits are available if you take your time to walk through the shrine.

It is a shrine worthy visit in all seasons, although it can be very crowded even in weekdays. There are numerous old trees in the courtyard, and there is wall-posting or exhibition, on entrance worship avenue, to explain and show the history- development and change- of the Shrine. Shrine also serves as the community center for the locals, such as annual farm-product harvest competition. Similar to most of the shrines in Japan, it is free for access.

It is a very lovely garden worth walking around with beautiful tori gates. If you are passed for time it is not a must see. We were told it is respectful to bow to the front of the gates prior crossing through the gate. As with most shrines, you can only see the outside of the building which is said to house to host one of three sacred relics of Japan (a sword). It is a nice stroll through the gardens outside and you can get some good food from the shipping centre next to the shrine grounds.

One of the major shrines in Nagoya. The shrines were great and the huge shrine gates were magnificent. There were several parking lots nearby but only one was open late after 5pm.

Truly a serene location! Even with all of the guests walking the area, the surroundings are very quiet and peaceful! There are two museums on the grounds: the first being dedicated to the Kusanagi katana and others from the Edo period dates back 400+ years. The second museum is dedicated to kimonos also going back to that time period.

A beautiful Shrine. Only a few train stop from Nagoya station, definitely worth to go. Not many tourists there, so we had nice relaxing walk and took our time tonlook around. Luckily, when we visited there, they had forging sword for dedication, which is held only once a year. It's was great experience.

This Shrine is located inside a large park. It's nice to take a stroll and see how Japanese people pray at the Shrine.

Atsuta Jingu is a bery nice peaceful area in which a big Shrine is located. If you’re a Buddhist and looking for tranquility while praying, then this Shrine is a must visit. It’s quite a walk from Jingu-Mae Station but it’s worth it.

Wondrous shrine complex and grounds. Buzzing with life during the first week of January, with folks seeking well wishes for the year and consuming myriad food from the local new years food stalls.

One of the shrine that weee occupied during the Golden week. The shrine itself was inside a forest like place. Here, you can pray and observe the nature around this place. Also, no entrance fee needed to enter to this place, except for the museum. Definitely try to go to this place also during your visit to Nagoya!
