American family visit. Great railway museum with many exhibits and interactive displays. You have the ability to enter many of the train cars to see what they look like. They also have a huge train diorama that has a show about every 15-20 minutes which was a lot of fun. For an additional fee you can also play the train simulators. Many of the signs, displays, and videos have English which is a huge plus in enjoying the museum of you don't read Japanese. There is a cafe onsite as well as a young child play area. The food was good and was about 4300 yen for my three person family. Need about 3 hours for a semi-decent run through, longer to really take it all in.

First: there’s no dedicated parking so park across the street at the furniture store and follow the signs as you walk (you’ll pass by actual trash cans if you’re carrying trash). Second: tickets are cash only (1,000 for adults and 300-500 for kids). Third: not great for strollers as you can’t bring them inside the trains. We had an awesome visit here and enjoyed the displays and the history. You can board at least ten different trains from various eras and see many more full-size cars from the history of rail. From the first version of the Shin, to maglev prototypes, to old steam-powered sleeper cars, there is a huge assortment of trains to explore here. We had no wait getting into the museum but tickets for the “shin operator” and “locomotive operator” experiences were sold out. Fun location for families, train enthusiasts, and photographers.

The best way to spend a rainy day is by visiting museums. This museum definitely could not be missed during my stay in Nagoya. I like trains, so this could not be missed, especially if you travel around by bullet train through Japan. The museum is quite far from the city center, so a 20 minute train trip is required to get here. If you're lucky, you can sit in one of the trains with the Lego interior, cause the Lego museum is around the corner. There is a movie being played in the entrance hall of the museum, where three trains are positioned. In the main hall you will find a big collection of trains, from old to new. I liked the part where the current technology is shown for the Shinkansen trains, like the pantograph and upper power line. Some special trains which are used in the past are in the back of the hall. There is a big miniature train world as well, and please take your time here. At some point the room gets dark and represents the night. Everything is being led up and looks amazing. You can spend at least 2 to 3 hours in here.

Brought me back to my childhood years playing with LIMA trains.... This is an amazing place for kids and the family. We were treated to a drum performance by youth and kids, too, as it was the weekend. It's super convenient to visit as it's a point to point train from nagoya Station, the end point, which is just outside the museum.

Home of the famous Maglev train! An easy Jr train from Nagoya station will get you here in about 35 mins, the museum is right next to the station exit and easy to get to. Tickets cost ¥1,000 for adults, you can pay via the machine (has English) with ic, credit or cash. The train simulator is extra. There's lots of kids here, tons to see and experience here. A must visit for all train lovers and riders. Don't forget to get a bento and eat it in the shinkansen car outside on 1F.

The SCMAGLEV and Railway Park, Nagoya, Aichi, Japan A wonderful museum showcasing some of Japan's rich railway history. The experience begins from the moment you walk in the door and purchase your entry ticket - from a railway ticket vending machine! After passing through a set of barrier gates (exactly like those you will find at a commuter railway station!), you enter the Hall of Speed. Three incredible railway locomotives that hold speed records are showcased in this hall. Even if you are not fluent in Japanese, there is enough signage and information in English to learn more about these machines, and the speed records they hold. The main exhibition hall is behind the Hall of Speed, and this is where the bulk of the displays are. A wide variety of rolling stock is preserved in here - early-model Shinkansen units, locomotives, maintenance-of-way equipment (check out the track clearance carriage!), and passenger carriages. There is a very extensive model railway display which features a light and sound show that cycles through a "day and night". Be sure to make time to see this! A gift shop and cafe is located on site also. You can catch a train to the museum - take a train on the Aonami line to Kinjofuto station (this is the end of the line). The SCMAGLEV and Railway Park is a definite "MUST VISIT" for railway enthusiasts!

Very very cool railway museum! The train display (multiple of them!) are super impressive! You could walk into most/all of the retired train cars in the display room and really see its revolution! My 5yr old son is a big (little) train fan, and he had SO MUCH fun exploring (and playing a bit of hide and seek too) among the train cars! They have both 2 different kinds of train simulators for you to experience how driving a train is like: normal train for 100 yen (8-10 min), and Shinkansen simulator for 500 yen (~15 min, first come first served and you need to reserve for a specific time). Both were fun and recommended! We also really enjoyed the interactive exhibits on both first and second floor where you could learn about different parts and mechanics of the trains (mostly Japanese though). There is also a ticket machine where you could input and print out your own unique named tickets! Great free souvenir. They are a proper gift shop at the exit of the museum where you can find all kinds of cool and cute train/Shinkansen souvenirs as well! Surprised and super neat gem place for anyone visiting Nagoya!

Great railway museum, very popular with families. Exhibitions are primarily in Japanese but with highlights in English. It would be great if there were more information published in English for tourists. The diorama is lovely but there are definitely better ones in Europe.

If you love trains like me, you will spend a happy afternoon here. An easy day trip using the Rail-pass from Kyoto, its an easy switch to the local train. If you are on a budget, buy your lunch at the convenience store at the station as there are free tables to eat at the museum. I used the museum cafe and it was a little pricey, but lots of fun.

Good amount of information, with interactive exhibits to explain the technologies and systems. Unfortunately, only very basic information is translated into English, the rest are in Japanese. Best part, in my opinion, is their famed Diorama, featuring detailed models of 4 major train stations and train sets through the years. The trains run automatically and the tracks and lights switch accordingly to regulate train traffic. Some models are also animated to show the different activities from day to night, like a bus running around the roads and avoiding parked vehicles, an ambulance and fire engine attending to a fire, a ferry sailing in the harbor, a moving merry go round.

(Translated by Google) There is no parking lot at the SCMAGLEV and Railway Park, and you can park at the nearest "Kinjo Pier Parking Lot". You can arrive in about 10 minutes on foot. You can also use this parking lot when you go to Legoland. Shinkansen and locomotives line up with Dawn from the entrance, and you will be overwhelmed. Trains owned by JR Central are displayed side by side, and if you look at the exhibited vehicles in an S shape, you can look forward to today's pedometer. And there are many cars on conventional lines. Even though I am not familiar with trains, I enjoy watching the trains by looking up the train symbol of "Kumoha" on the Internet. Also, since I grew up on the Kintetsu Railway and the Osaka Loop Line, the old-fashioned interior has a different nostalgia than it is now, and I remembered going to school by train when I was a student.

Given Japan's extraordinary train system and network, this attraction could be better presented, and more thorough. Whilst there are many displays, explanations are quite often shallow, and incomplete. Even as a speaker of Japanese, I was left with many questions after reading the displays. The English explanations were birding on scarce. Also disappointing was the inability to get a booking on the Shinkansen simulator. I arrived very early, and found that it was already booked out until late afternoon. This needs to be better managed. Having said that, this is still a worthwhile place to visit - I just suggest that you come prepared for an exhibition which doesn't reach the usually high Japanese standards.

Right beside a train station, and cheap parking close by. Great for kids of all ages! Good size museum you and your family can spend a full day. Great lunch options as you can try many different train lunchboxes, be sure to show up early for the best selection。。。♡

Very interesting museum of JR trains back to the 19th century. They really want you to go there by train -- no parking provided. You need to park across the road at the Dome store. Don't go to the multistage parking lot for Legoland, it's a long walk!

A must visit for railfans! I love the rolling stock display, with some of them you can even enter and take pictures in. Ever wondered what trains looked like in the old days, before modern subways and bullet trains? What I love especially is that the museum caters to non-Japanese speaking visitors with English guides all around the place. Don’t miss the Delica Station on the second floor, for some train bento served in actual, plastic train containers you can take back home. Lunch and souvenir in one.

It's a great display of trains and technology. Kids love it! But we went here for a date and it's still worth it. I enjoyed the interactive displays and the theater where they simulate how it would be if you were to ride the Maglev train.

SCMaglev Railway Park in Nagoya is a great place to learn about the latest maglev technology and get close to many high-speed trains, including the very first Shinkansen from 1964. Great to see so much pride for Japanese technology at SCMAGLEV and Railway Park in Nagoya. It is an excellent place to visit, not just for the Shinkansen history and maglev future but has so many old rolling stock from years past that you can get up close and enjoy what it must have been like to travel in.

Nice place to visit if you are interested in the history of railroad and Shinkansen in Japan. The early years of train station, research and development of the bullet train are well documented inside the museum. There is also place where children can play inside,a canteen inside to those who want to eat snacks and lunch and souvenir shop for your memorable visit in the park.

If you love trains, and would like to know the history of the Japanese railway system, this is the best place to go. My family & I took a cab to & from the museum since the place is far from the more popular Nagoya tourist spots, but it was well worth the trip. If you want to fully "immerse" yourself with all the displays & the attractions, it will take 3-4hours to see everything. Also, the staff was pretty helpful since we don't speak Japanese.

It's a great place to visit with family and friends. If you like to know the history of japanese trains, you must come here. The price for adults is 1000 JPY. There are some restuarants/ souvenir shop inside the premises. I specially liked the Shinkansen history and the evolution of the trains. There are also places for kids to enjoy like making model trains/tracks. They allow to visit the inside of some of the trains. Great museum 5/5

(Translated by Google) It was very beautiful and I thought it would be nice to be able to re-enter. Currently, some vehicles cannot enter due to the influence of Corona. The Shinkansen simulator is played only once per group. If you go with more than one person, you can only play one, so you need to take turns during play. You can drive the conventional line as many times as you like, and the price is reasonable at 100 yen. The conventional line has two cabs, 313 series and 211 series. I thought there were a lot of diamonds and there was a lot of variety. There was a shop on the 2nd floor, and about 10 types of ekiben were sold. The average price was about 1100 yen. Shinkansen seats were prepared in the break space, and the seats of the Green Car were fluffy and very comfortable. There are facilities that you can experience as if you were riding a linear motor car, and it was a masterpiece to see the vibrations and scenery. For lunch, in addition to the ekiben I mentioned earlier, I think the Daily Yamazaki under Kinjofuto Station, which is about a 5-minute walk away, is good. ======================= access Nagoya Station = Aonami Line Nagoya Station = Kinjofuto Station = Walk = SCMAGLEV and Railway Park About 40 minutes from Nagoya Station (Original)

(Translated by Google) 2021/1/9 Due to the fact that the corona is over, the number of visitors to the Linear Railway Museum is very small. Maybe there are more staff than customers? I can think of it. However, because there were few people, I could take a closer look. Also, it was very easy to take pictures. However, I'm worried if there are so few people. 2017/3/25 Required if you like trains, required if you have a boy, recommended if not. I think it's a place that both enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts can enjoy. The Shinkansen and linear trains are simply cool, and the SL is also cool. The diorama is also beautiful. There are many interesting souvenirs. There is no reason to decide not to go. Let's go to the Linear Railroad Museum and go to Maker's Pier for lunch. Let's liven up Kinjo Pier together so that the maker's pier will not collapse. (Translated by Google) Since it was a self-restraint period, it was super rattling and was seen slowly in a chartered state. All the simulations had no waiting time. A dining car on the 0 series Shinkansen that I used to ride when I was a kid. A 100 series train that I used to ride when I was a university student or a member of society. It's memorable. For the 117 series cars that were previously placed outside, only the leading car is placed indoors, and instead, three N700 series cars that left the line last year are placed. There is no restaurant or cafeteria in the building, so you will have to buy ekiben and eat in free space. A wonderful collection of Japanese locomotives through the ages, and a preview of the futuristic maglev service that is due to come into operation in the next decade. Some interesting exhibits on how things are kept running today adds to a great experience, suitable for all ages. Worth the admission fee for sure.

Worth a visit but not a priority. Only if you will enjoy trains or have kids that love Maglev trains. Cheap and easy to get to. Not far from the train station. Clean toilets. Not crowded so you can get tickets when you get there. They also have simulations. Lots of rest benches. Lots of actual train models you can enter. Also a decent gift shop.

Came in with high expectations after visiting the Kyoto railway museum a year ago and while I can't say it's disappointing as the train displays are definitely amazing, the content and context are both lacking. JR Central Japan has positioned the space as a place to "display" technologies with the maglev as the centerpiece, and hence there is not much about the most profitable/critical section of Japan's bullet train. It is also disappointing in a sense that the most financially viable JR operator in all of Japan is spending so little on its showcase. The forward looking mindset doesn't serve a museum space very well, as now we know the maglev train project is very much in limbo with Shizuoka reluctant to green-light the construction. Perhaps it's time to rethink the space and consider an expansion to incorporate more substantial materials rather than kids' playroom.

Man kann hier also ganz gut Zeit verbringen.

Even if you’re not a train fan, it is fun entering the interior of trains and learning how trains work. They also had this little booth about how the new maglev Shinkansen works as well. Highly recommend the train driving experience because it is great fun for all. There are also English instructions if you do not know any Japanese.

They have English!!! I love trains. This the the third major train museum I've been to in Japan. The Kyoto one is probably "better" but has ZERO English. This place had English on almost everything, so obviously if you don't read fluenty in Japanese which I sure can't, this is the better musesm. You can spend a good 1/3 to 1/2 a day here.

Not bad as a museum. But compare with Kyoto railway museum, it’s totally worse. Bad access(far from downtown deep inside the industrial port so the view is bad as well), less trains, bad layout, poor outdoor exhibition. But the railway model is pretty good.

I went here with a friend visiting from America, and I was impressed. We both thought it would be a quick trip through, but we ended up spending nearly the whole day here looking at trains. You can go inside some of the retired train cars (most of them, really), there are multiple exhibits on various aspects of JR trains and bullet trains, a whole room of model trains that run twice an hour, and they even had an English version of their ride experience that the lady offered to run for us. Lots of information, tons of trains and model trains, and there’s even a small cafe where you can buy ekiben themed foods. You can easily spend a whole day here if you like trains or history.

A cool place to visit in Nagoya. You will witness how trains evolved in Japan. You can also try simulations by paying additional fees or if you're lucky, there's a raffle draw for a free experience.

  • 5/5 Jason C. 6 months ago on Google
A good collection of all sorts of trains and railroad related items. It's especially nice to visit during hot or rainy day as it's all covered (Expect a fancy train outside as a break area).

You can discover various historical and modern rolling stocks, locomotives and even MAGLEV of Japanese railway.

Awesome place is you like trains and specially the Bullet Trains. They also have the most impressive Diorama from Tokyo to Osaka

Train lovers will enjoy this place. Besides the rolling stock of different trains which are open for us to enter, view and snap photos, there are also interactive exhibits to explain the concept of maglev technology, super magnet conductor and evolution of the shinkansen train. There's also a simulator ride. Good to purchase your slot early if you are keen to try it.. Cost 500yen for a 15mins ride on either shinkansen or regular train crew. There is also a separate queue for a 10mins simulator experience on the regular train (similar to arcade game) for 100 yen. Factor in at least 2hrs for the experience. We spend 4hrs including lunch here! Lunch has some limited edition sets with the train bento. But do grab this early before its sold out. We ate at 1pm, only 3 types of bento sets remained.

An amazing collection of Japan's most iconic rolling stocks and railway related technologies. The museum can be accessed from downtown Nagoya by taking the Aonami Railway to Kinjofuto station. After purchasing tickets, the speed recorders of the Japanese railways, a C62 steam locomotive which hauled the famous Tsubame night trains, the 300X shinkansen test vehicle and a section of a maglev welcome the visitor. In the main hall behind one can find even more delicacies, including the evolution of the vehicles used on the Tokaido and Sanyo shinkansen. Well worth the visit as the museum introduces a key part of Japan's modern history.

Good History and how the Shinkansen works. Very nice place to visit. Lot's of classic models from a long time ago until the new age.

Has a lot of hands-on activities for the kids to enjoy while the adults admire the trains. In addition to that do queue up for trying out the train simulator (100 yen per play). Don't forget to catch the fantastic trains diorama which starts on every 30 minutes.

  • 5/5 Marius L. 8 months ago on Google
Really interesting exhibition! Everything you need to know is also available in English. You can walk through most of the trains or at least enter them.

Great train museum with a key focus on maglev technology with a room dedicated to the upcoming L0 maglev train. There are fantastic train simulators too. Easily spent 2-3 hours here especially if you have kids who are crazy about trains. One of the most interesting is the first room that you enter as it has some of the fastest trains of their times.

We did not plan on going here until last minute, especially since we saw it was right next to Legoland (5 minute walk from the Legoland Hotel). Kids were dreading another museum and they lived this one. Many interactive things for kids to do, I wish I had alotted more time to this as they had fun going through all the trains and pressing all the buttons to see how different parts of the trains work. There are some parts where you pay extra like the train simulator and bullet train simulator. Like many museums in Japan, they also have papers for kids to go find stamps located throughout the museum. If you are remotely into trains or have kids, this may be a place to add to your itinerary. We spent about an hour here but kind of rushed it and could have spent more time here.

Easily one of the best train museums that I’ve ever visited in the whole world. Visited it once and I swore that I would take my children with me to visit here again. On my 2nd visit after several years, not much has changed but it was still a pleasant experience. We easily spent 3+ hours here, a lot of activities to be had, including theater featuring the history of the shinkansen and also history of doctor yellow, the famous shinkansen. On my way out, I mentioned to the information desk that I really love this museum and she gave my children a pin each. I will definitely visit this place again every time I visit Nagoya city.

(Translated by Google) In the train simulator experience, it seems that you can jump in on the conventional line, but I think that it is necessary to make an early reservation for the Shinkansen. There are some vehicles that have restrictions on the inside of the vehicle with the new Corona, but it seems that the windows are probably opened and the wide old cars are open. It takes 5 hours to go through the history of trains, vehicle explanations, and experiences.
