Unfortunately, I do not recommend this attraction to foreigners. The main reason is the huge lack of English signs and descriptions. There are indeed English station which support English language, but it is really 0% convenient. Another bad thing about this, is the aim to younger kids - the majority of the museum aims to serve children, which is fine, but sadly isn’t communicated well. As a German student, it is rather boring here. If you want to enter the planetarium, you have to order the ticket in advance, sadly I couldn’t enter it.

My wife, two grade school kids, and I got in at 10am, and left the place at closing time. Every floor had designated sections that highlight the different areas of (you guessed it 😊) SCIENCE! The planetarium could've been more interesting if english subtitles/captions were included (but how'd they do that might be challenging since each area of the dome-shaped ceiling was used to explain the stars and other astronomy-related topics). An hour was not enough to enjoy the section that featured the anatomy & physiology of our body. The many interactive areas, and the several video displays really help us understand the human body. This place is best enjoyed with that "learning" mind set, and not just "photo-ops" if you are a tourist. ¥800 for adult tickets (my kids got in for free since they are elementary students) is a "steal" for a science museum with this extensive, detailed & organized collection of data.

The museum is good for kids. We went to the planetarium too. It is big and very sharp the picture, but very lame, boring 50 minutes lecture of some live talking person in Japanese. I would not recommend!

I cannot recommend this museum enough. Absolutely wonderful variety of different scientific concept. I liked that the museum doesn't dumb anything down - it provides full factual information about a variety of physics, chem, bio, astronomy, earth science and engineering concepts. Everything is fully interactive and there are a number of wonderful physics/ chem experiments that you can see for yourself. Amazing.

This is a must see. If you're a lover of the sciences like myself, you won't regret making a visit here. The planetarium will definitely send you to sleep. Not because of boredom, but imagine relaxing under a beautifully arrayed night sky, with all its hosts in action. Yeah, I fell asleep twice🤭😄. It's definitely worth every penny I paid.

A wonderful experience. This museum can be both an absolute source of joy and an opportunity for learning for children. Floors 2 to 6 are full of experiments and contraptions designed to explain basic scientific theories while demonstrating real life examples and applications. The exhibition starts with hydraulics, then common electrical and mechanical theories, then comes the waves, and lastly basics of human bodies. The place is so crowded, and each child is having so much fun enjoying science that it’s hard to believe that they are actually learning science which was supposed to be difficult. There is even a train simulator where you can run and control like a real train driver, and it’s an added bonus. If you have interest in science, then it’s highly recommended. If you do not have interest in scientific theories, still it’s recommended as a fun place.

Great Science museum if that's what you are looking for. Family of 3 from the US experiencing it on a Tuesday morning shortly after opening. There were 5 groups of preschoolers, so we timed our floors opposite of their stops best we could, otherwise there were just a handful of people here. Use Google Translate for the signs and hands on to get a better understanding, very limited English overall. Also, they have a place with vending for drinks and sit to eat. But no food to buy on site, feel free to pack and eat in this spot though. Would recommend, especially if you have kids.

It was indeed great not just for the kids but even adults who yearn to learn! The biggest downside for foreigners, though, is that the exhibits and programs were all in Japanese (with some English translations mostly for the titles or names). There were a few that have QR codes for translation c/o an app called “Brother Museum Guide” so English-speaking visitors can still participate and understand the exhibits better. Even though I wasn’t able to fully understand everything I’ve seen, going here was such an awesome experience!

Very recommended place to spend a day in Nagoya. It is not your "common-just-see" museum, but this museum is very interactive. If you love science, then you'll have a good time learn all basic concept, and if you are just three years old kids, you'll be happy explore everything here.

one of the best places ever I visited. Its really good for kids to understand science they will lovevthis please. they have really nice insect collection. they use all of Physics theory inside this building with practically using it. Kids will love it and they will love to do science when they enjoy this place. Planetarium is the awesome place. Youe need to book ticket fast. Limited show times but many people. all inclusive ticket is around 2000¥. They have 3 options.

Great place to explore, but be aware most things are in Japanese and there's not a lot of English guides. Also I find it's more of a family place to take your kids to and not really a touristy spot. Still good value if you don't have anything planned.

A science museum with a large planetarium inside. An unusual looking building. It looks like a UFO landed on the building. The exhibits and presentations are in Japanese only, and they seem to cater more to the school going kids. Outside the museum there is a space rocket, and a park.

This museum is way above my expectation and imagination. It is a fun place for kids and adults. The entrance fee is only 400 yen for basic visit. Do not think you can see everything in 1 or 2 hour. Hmm 3.0 hour - 4.0 hour should be a reasonable guess. If you love engineering, architecture, building science, You would enjoy even more. The museum is divided to 6-7 level with different themes. The most impressive memory is the machine to simulate a tornado. Of course is a very skinny small tornado (see my picture). The second impressive is a video game for driving a fire truck. I crash the truck in 10 seconds because I don't know how to read Japanese. On second floor, there are vending machines selling drink for 130yen -180 yen with open table/ chair. Will definitely revisit again If I go to Nagoya again. This place should be given 6 stars, not just 5 stars.

It was a pleasant surprise to stumble upon when exploring Nagoya. The planetarium show is 100% recommended! Even though I don't speak any Japanese, I enjoyed every second of it. Many of the exhibits are interactive. Make sure you take the time to explore and play with them.

This place is an excellent place for kids and even for adults. One day visit from opening to closing hours is enough to enjoy all the shows and visit every corner and try every activity they have. The color of stars show is very nice but is only available in Japanese. But if you have basic knowledge of the sun, stars, moon and the galaxy, it will just be common sense for you to grasp what it is all about. The activites offered are very interesting. And is useful to students. Parents are must accompany the children and explain everything in the museum to maximize the knowledge the children will get. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. I recommend this place specially to those who are homeschooling. Toilets are everywhere and are clean. Outside the museum is a park with a small playground that is very nice for children. Worth visiting. 👌

Top notch and informative science museum located in Nagoya. While we were there, we wanted to find some activities for our children and decided upon this science museum. Large size exhibits could be found outside the building and there were many levels to this science museum. The kids had a wonderful learning experience when they were there. Recommended for family with kids. Can spend a good 3-4 hours there.

One thing I enjoy most as a a tourist is aquariums and science museums and this science museum is well worth the stop. It is a huge place that offers a lot of exhibits and educational enlightenment. You will not be disappointed if you come and if you have children, 100% you need to stop by. There is a lot to look at with many floors to keep you busy. You will absolutely spend a lot of time here and enjoy every moment of it. Just stop by and enjoy the museum.

The place is pretty interesting, it has a variety of fields that they show, from biology, to minerals and tecnology. Much of the content is the basis studied in major degrees, in my case mechanical engineering, and it would have been awesome to see some of the experiments while studying to understand them better (gears, that subject was really hard 😂) Being said so, the only perk is that there is almost nothing in English. Everything is in Japanese and that is really sad :(

We went on a weekend so we expected large crowds with families. There are several ticket combinations for your preference (museum+planetarium+special exhibit, museum + planetarium, only special exhibit etc) The displays were interactive and informative but all in Japanese. Hopefully in the future they will add translations or multilingual headphones. There is only one restaurant in a separate building on the ground floor. Best to bring your own food and eat it in the lounge areas or the park just outside. Your ticket allows for re-entry.

Best museum experience ever. Houses the world's largest planeterium giving the most realistic 3D space tour experience ever(holds the world's record for this). Lots space technologies, metrology phenomenon, history, fossils, physics, biology, marine, architecture, rocks. It's the kind of place you can visit alone, come for a date, bring friends, bring kids or entire family....so much fun

One of the few attraction sites in Nagoya. If you are an Univ student, it's 500 yen for a person. A six story building museum. You can go through the exhibitions, which are mostly for children, I think. At a set time, planetarium is held. I think it's about every hour or so. Takes about 50 minutes for the show. Again, the planetarium show isn't that interesting. Plus, please be aware the show is in Japanese.

The best science museum I have ever seen, probably the best in the world. Most major scientific concepts are demonstrated through hands on exhibits. Pure science is presented without shying away from topics due to others dogmatic belief systems. If you are in Tokyo, this is well worth a nice shinkansen ride to Nagoya for a day trip. I read no Japanese and have a vocabulary of < 100 words, but I felt very comfortable with the museum and the exhibits. Highly recommend!

I went because I heard the planetarium show was good but it was pretty boring (even though I could understand the Japanese). At the start it was interesting but I had expected more stargazing. Instead, the live commenter went into scientific explanations about various type of rays (x rays, gamma rays, visible light, etc) towards the 2nd half of the show 😪 Apart from the planetarium, the exhibits were interactive and seemed good for kids. Tornado exhibit was cool. (actually want to put 3.5 stars but idk how, 3/5 planetarium & 4/5 the rest)

Good place to kill some time in bad weather. Most of the exhibits are interactive and hands on, but pretty tired and beat up. There's always groups of school kids, so just try to go past them and then come back to areas they were in later.

Very good museum for kids, very well organized and maintained. The planetarium is the most modern and comfortable we have ever been (around 10). However the show was the most boring we have ever been, it was just a person with a narrative of some points in the universe, maybe informative but extremely boring.

One of the many museum options in Nagoya! It has the worlds largest planetarium. As the museum is in Japanese, including the planetarium commentary, I personally didn’t find this too worthwhile. Entry is also quite steep, 1800 plus 400 for a planetarium show.

  • 4/5 Ramses M. 7 months ago on Google
A museum that is likely more fun for kids, and if you can read all Japanese kanji. There isn't much at all for English. It is mostly an activity-based museum, and there were lots of kids enjoying them. They have a rotating special exhibit, which was focused on cats at the time of my visit. Unfortunately, I couldn't enjoy it to full extent due to not being completely fluent. However, I can tell that it's a great museum.

It was good and informative day. Although everything is in Japanese so cant really get the information. Planetarium was the best atleast to view the stars but cant really understand any details. Wish they had atleast some show in English or audio translation. You could spend a whole day here, best if it is raining and you have no place to go! Get the student discount if you are eligible

  • 3/5 Julia N. 3 years ago on Google
Probably a great place for Japanese school children but just so-so for us since we aren't fluent in Japanese. It probably didn't help that several exhibits and activities were closed due to Covid precautions, including the Arctic Freeze room. Some exhibits regularly end before the museum closes, so you should probably go earlier in the day and time your visit based on activities you want to do. There were still a lot of experiential exhibits (similar to the SF Exploratorium) when we visited, but all the explanations were in Japanese. That said, I later learned that you can download an app that provides some of the explanations in other languages, so I highly encourage you to do that. The app lets you read the descriptions (or listen if you bring headphones). Also, note that the planetarium shows are exclusively in Japanese. Adult ticket costs 400yen (or 800yen with planetarium) as of Sept 2020.

(Translated by Google) This is a facility that Nagoya citizens have visited once 😃 Renewal work was carried out in the middle of Heisei, and it became the current facility. I used to like the old facilities because of the old-fashioned public 😆 Now it's as beautiful as a private theme park, and it feels like Reiwa. The mayor of Nagoya is vomiting to run SL, but it's enough without that 😂😂 (Original)
