Lovely staff! They even remembered me from when I last stayed here about 4.5 years ago! Nicest staff I have ever met. The hostel is very clean, quiet, and in a lovely, quiet area of Kyoto. Not too hard to venture out, however, due to its proximity to the train stations. But when in Kyoto, it's best to bike, and the hostel provides bike rentals. Would definitely stay again!

Jiyujin is a fabulous hostel. For it's excellent prices, it offers small but clean, secure, and very comfortable rooms, very nice showers and ofura, cheap bicycle rentals, and above all else truly phenomenal staff. Recommendations for food, for sightseeing are easy to come by, maps and brochures are offered freely, and they care. When I came down with a cold, they rushed to offer medicine and accommodations unasked. For s short stay in Kyoto, I could not recommend Jiyujin more highly.

Great experience for my first guesthouse! I had the twin room all to myself which was really nice after having been at a dorm-style hostel for a few days just before. The staff was always very nice and helpful with directions and local customs, most especially my lack of Japanese. I actually preferred speaking to them in English. I compare a guesthouse more to an Airbnb where your stay should be mindful of all the rules that kept and keeps the guesthouse clean and comfortable for you and all other guests present and future. It might seem like a lot in comparison to a hotel, but they're just common sense when you realize there's a reason it's called a guesthouse.

I visited this place 8 years ago and I think about it pretty often. The staff were just the kindest and loveliest people, and were so nice to chat to over tea. I'm looking forward to staying again this July ❤️

Friendliest staff, and super clean. I stayed in a private room and there was plenty of space for my medium suitcase and bag. By far the best hostel I've stayed in. In addition, the receptionists helped plan full day itineraries in Kyoto

Lovely staff with all the facilities you will need on your stay. Bicycles for rent is a great option for travelling Kyoto. Spacious rooms to rest in.

Staff was very friendly. Always tried to create conversation regardless of your native language. The accommodations were very clean and modern looking. Bathrooms were a bit cold at night but that's because they don't have heat in the common areas of the guest house (they DO have heat in the rooms though). Besides from the cold, very clean and sanitary. We slept in a four bed dorm and the beds were a bit stiff for my personal taste. Each bed had its own outlet and small book light. All in all, I would recommend this guest house to anyone who wants to travel to Kyoto. It is right off the subway station and had a convience store 2 mins away. The employees were friendly and very social.

Clean, comfy and affordable private rooms, and the guesthouse is located less than 5 mins from the nearest subway exit. You do have to go through a couple of small streets that can be pretty dark at night, but even as a solo traveler it felt safe. The staff is awesome, friendly and really helpful, but one thing to note is that the reception is closed from 11am-4pm & from 9pm, so I don't recommend leaving your luggage/ bags with them after check-out unless you're ok to pick up your things after 4pm. However, there are coin lockers in the Gojo station (North area, next to the vending machines) where you can keep your luggage/ bags for a small fee. I enjoyed my stay here and will consider coming back again.

One of the nicest hostels/guest house we've ever been too. The staff go above and being the call of duty. So clean! Would highly recommend for exploring Kyoto.
