Gear was great! We made a good choice by going in the morning and there was a same day discount. Go in the morning and get the tickets! Went for lunch nearby then went for the show. It's really good entertainment and good special effects! Refer to my pictures for details!

This is a must-watch when visiting Kyoto! Fantastic experience from the moment we entered the theatre. We found our way to the entrance easily as the place was clearly marked, and a male staff was waiting along the road with a sign to direct anyone as necessary - the theatre is located on the third floor of the building. We took the stairs to get to that level. The female staff at the third floor assisted us with our ticket collection at the machine. We had ordered online, so we just needed to enter our reservation number and contact number to retrieve our tickets. Another older female staff was really nice. She made sure we were properly guided throughout our time there, and gave me clear instructions on how to claim the birthday benefits as it was my birthday month. The souvenir shop and washroom are right next to the entrance so early arrivals could shop beforehand and use the restroom. The show itself was incredible! The 5 entertainers are so talented and full of energy. They maintained that high energy level for the full one and a half hour show (no breaks). Their whole performance was a great mixture of robot moves, comedy, mime, breakdancing, magic, and juggling. We sat in the front row so we were even more entertained by them interacting with us. We had lots of photo opportunities at the end, as photo-taking was not allowed until then. I was browsing the photos in this google listing and I can see how the show has evolved over the years. This is just going to get better and better so watch it when you have the chance. Highly highly recommended.

It was 90 minutes that went by in the blink of an eye. For a non-japanese speaker the show is amazing as there are no dialogues among the characters but the story is really well driven. Very interactive scenario with lights, sound, movements and characters on scene. All of them played their part succesfully creating an enjoyable atmosphere for the public. We were in Kioto for holidays and found something different to do. I would say it's fun for the children aswell. Small theater, Big performance.

One of the best choices I made in Japan was going to this show. It has a certain charm that makes this show very special, it’s funny, interactive, and emotional. If you’re looking for something to do in Kyoto, I highly recommend this show.

A must-see in Kyoto! Words fail to capture the sheer brilliance of this show—it's simply wonderful. The 90-minute performance by these five remarkably talented individuals surpassed all expectations. Despite the absence of dialogue, the play masterfully conveys emotions to the audience. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend everyone visiting Kyoto to experience this captivating show!

WOW is all I can say! This performance was above and beyond. The theater is small so every seat is a good one. Every cast member was exceptional, and we will never forget this show. Our 6-year-old daughter will be talking about it for weeks. Make sure to wear the goggles they offer...lots of fun surprises and some audience interaction! ;) Going to see GEAR is a MUST-DO when visiting Kyoto. Thank you!! Ticket tip: You can buy tickets at the red truck outside the show on the day of, but they often sell out. I recommend buying tickets online (by emailing them) at least a day in advance.

Outstanding performance by very talented actors. The show is creative, innovative and full of energy. The show is well choreographed and the light projections are stunning. The front of house staff were very welcoming and helpful. Well worth a visit. NB: Flashing lights are used during the performance and at times the whole theatre goes very dark.

Such an amazing performance!! We went in not knowing what to expect and I think it's the best way. It's definitely one of the coolest things we have done while in Japan! We were sat in seats B5&B6 which meant we got a great view but the theatre is pretty small anyway so I think you'd be able to see well no matter where you sit. Highly recommend, make sure you book in advance and go see it!!

This theater came up on a search when researching the hotel I was staying at nearby. The reviews convinced me to buy tickets and I’m so glad I did. The theater is small but the quality is immence. My family and I had so much fun, and my mom even cried a little. If you want something different to do one afternoon in Kioto, please do this!

What talent! Totally enjoyable entertainment! Suitable for families with children age 6years and up. Dancing, break dance, magic shows, Mime all woven into a story line. Though I wish they should have repeated the instruction not to lean forward as I was sitting behind two tall men who blocked my view of the stage slightly. Do book your tickets as early as possible to secure better seats

Such an amazing theather experience! I still cannot believe how above my expectation it went. We saw it on the Japan Travel app by NaviTime (great app for tourists) and went in blank, but we were both blown away. It has a unique narrative to it with exquisite visuals, genuinely awesome performances and a healthy dose of humor.... all without saying a word! A must-see in my opinion if you are nearby and very accessible to tourists as well seeing as there is not a word spoken. Im not going into specifics because part of the magic for me was the unexpectedness of it all, but to end it on a vague hint: "Sometimes you don't have to know the same language to understand eachother, we all recognize human"

Spectacular performance by multi-talented artists/actors. If you are looking for a theatrical performance that stimulates the five senses, this is one superb show you would not want to miss. Came here to enjoy left speechless and in awe of how traditional elements can be fused with modern aspects of Japanese performing arts. Will surely watch it again in the near future.

I booked this show on a whim after finding it online preparing for our trip to Japan. I thought it would be a nice outing. We went to the show this evening and it blew me and my wife away. We love theatre, ballet and musicals. We have gone to a lot! None of these performances compare with what we got at Gear. The set design, flawless. The projections, incredible. The performers, the heart and soul that brings it all together. I will watch this show again when I next visit Kyoto. Totally spectacular!

Lovely change of pace from temple viewing! Lovely evening with unique story with talented people. As mentioned we went to an evening showing but I believe they do a day showing if you'd rather, either way I'd recommended going lovely breathe of fresh air. I don't want to write too much as I don't want to ruin the experience.

I would like to recommend all the age of audience wherever they come. The story was easy to understand for every age. My daughter 8 years old totally enjoyed with the person sit next to her who looks her grandmother. It is also good for who are getting bored to get around traditional Japanese temples and shrines. Sometimes audience are getting involved the show and it made the air more funtastic. 子どもたち、外国の人たち、全ての年齢層の人たちにオススメしたいです。

This is an unforgettable experience full of heart, originality, and magic! A unique must see for all ages. The theater is incredible, the lighting and sound transport you into the world of Gear, and the movement, character work, and ability of the performers to connect with their audience made this a highlight of my trip to Japan. I wish I could go again! This show gave me so many emotions and I cant stop thinking about it! As icing on the cake, they offered birthday presents for anyone born the month you see the show. My birthday is this month, and I was blown away by the quantity and quality of the birthday presents I recieved 😁 This experience left me with a warm glow in my heart. BRAVO!!!!

This was just amazing!! Highly highly reccomend anyone to come watch this. The story is easy to follow and the light displays are great. I would recommend trying to get a seat in the first 2 rows. Was unsure when we purchased tickets but very glad we did and will recommend to anyone that is visiting kyoto to experience gear.

Visiting Kyoto and my friend who had seen the performance a week prior highly recommended I watch it also. Now for those of you reading my review, if you're in Kyoto, definitely check it out! The whole stage set up and seating was very well planned out. The performance was absolutely amazing. It was very impactful even though it was a nonverbal performance. The movements, acting, music, sounds, and lights all blended so well together. I felt many emotions throughout the show. It was overall very entertaining, never a dull moment.

Definitely worthy of the high praise and positive reviews. This was so unique and magical and impressive. Great performers, storyline…our 7 YO and 13 YO were laughing and having a great time. Everyone loved it. We booked front row and there was some audience participation in the act, but it was all in good fun. We’d go again if we had enough time! Wish we had this kind of theater back home!! Really nice people :)

It was an amazing theatre performance. I was just randomly walking nearby Gear theatre and noticed the show poster, went inside the building, 3rd floor, and met that amazingly kind lady who sold me the ticket from the first row. :) happy to be able to watch the show.

It was a well done theater performance! I took a 4 yr old, a bit scary at first (it gets dark and loud) but not scary enough to leave! She had a great time, plus the staff made sure she was comfortable. They provided her with extra cushions so she could be higher in her seat. And it was also her birthday month, they gave her a cute little birthday card. Very friendly welcoming!

1st time going to a live theatre show and it exceeded my expectations. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The special effects, lighting effects, acting, and set/costume design were insanely well done. You can feel the love and effort of the creators behind this production in how it is showcased. I also love the audience participation I got chosen for!! Each character has their own troupe and time in the spot light. Overall a great time spent of almost 2 hours of my trip to Kyoto!!!

*American Review* Loved the performance of GEAR! There’s not so many English speakers in Japan so seeing something NONVERBAL was quite the breath of fresh air. Really was a truly incredible show! Problems how brutally hot it was in this theatre. It didn’t seem like there was any air conditioning set up in this building… plus we were there seeing the show in the middle of their summer season = 🥵🥵🥵! I would def still see this again but next time I’m bringing a mini portable fan!!! 5 star show, 3 star venue (due to the heat) = 4 stars. TY!

An amazing experience that everyone can and should go see. My partner had heard generally good things online but it completely trounced every expectation we had. It has now easily become my favourite theatre show of all time. Gear also has the unique benefit of featuring no dialogue, so no matter what part of the world you're from you should be able to understand everything that's going on. The stage and audience size is also quite small compared to an average play, which might seem like a problem at a glance but it actually makes it way more intimate and the stage is incredibly detailed. The use of lighting, music and sound effects is truly an incredible spectacle to behold and each of the performers are so incredibly talented in each of their own unique ways. This is the first time I've ever gone out of my way to buy a souvenir after watching a play/theatre show, as I wanted something to remind me if this incredible experience. It is absolutely worth the money and I cannot recommend it more!

This was delightful. The interaction, set design and story telling were all top notch. A shout out to the actors for such high energy and physically demanding work. I am buzzing with how fun it was to watch. Very impressed with the different solo performances. The set design and lighting are immersive and top notch. A great night out in Kyoto that was easy to get to. The elevator was out so be aware you have to be able to climb 3 stories.

Very entertaining show, like an upscale circus with 4 specific acts (breakdancing, mime, magic, juggling), and fun storytelling in between. Very heartwarming and then briefly heart wrenching. Show was an hour and half with no breaks. Only downside is that it's on the 3rd floor and stairs only. Highly recommend if you're in Kyoto, it's very close to Nishiki market.

Great show — a fun combination of magic, mime, and more! Excellent show for foreigners who don’t understand Japanese, as it’s nonverbal. Super fun and we laughed the entire time!

I like the robot style picture from Akihiro Yamada. Unfortunately, the store is not allowed to visit without ticket. Feel depressed and shocked.

If you like pantomime or technical theatre I HIGHLY recommend this show. I've never seen projections incorporated into live theatre so well. There's also so much fun set design! And the pantomime is excellent and was so fun to watch. I also really enjoyed the magic show. Also I just liked the story of it all - it made me really emotional towards the end.

A must do when you visit Kyoto! The show is so so amazing and unbelievable! I’m so surprised many tourist site and influencers haven’t mentioned this show yet. Probably a hidden gem. The storyline, choreography, light projection and stage production are world-class! They should have a show at Vegas!
