Unfortunately the hotel is located near volcanic gas fields where the stinky smell of gas blows inside the building and makes it difficult to sleep.

Enjoying a mountain lodge stay at the Raicho-sho (Ptarmigan lodge). There are high level services, good people, good food, clean room, clean restrooms and Onsen (hot spring). Being able to unravel in the Onsen is nothing more than sheer bliss, especially after long mountain trekking. It was amazing monuments to see rising of moon and sun as well as twinkling stars and falling stars from the height of Rancho-sho.

Staff very unfriendly. Offered a small room despite whole building empty because of bad weather. Only small towel for bath. Dinner very simple, mostly cold dishes.

Excellent location with fabulous views. Being away away from the roads and other buildings you get excellent view of the night sky and if you are blessed by good weather the sunrise is stunning. Booked with breakfast and dinner - both delicious and healthy. Onsen slightly small but nicely designed. If you stay the night large towels are not provided but small towels and a yukata are. The rooms are simple, but again meet all your needs - with a good quality futon in a simple tatami room with no frills. This is not a high ranking hotel but I am giving this 5 stars because it really meets all your needs without any extra frills and the location is superb. The staff are friendly and helpful and all facilties clean and well arranged.

This is an amazing hotel, and a unique experience! The dinner is amazing, the onsen is quite big and comfortable. There's a chimney where you can sit and relax. There are some considerations (not a detriment): - It took me around 1 hour to get from Murodo station to the hotel because of the snow. - There's a moderate sulfur smell - There are no private toilets nor bathrooms I am quite impressed with the exper and will try to come back for sure! 6/5 100% recommended

I ended up coming here after I got rained out from the campsite down the hill from them. I was lucky because I had no reservation but they had a shared room available. The bedding was incredibly comfortable and warm. There were curtains to provide privacy. Dinner and breakfast were included. The variety of food was amazing. The staff was very hospitable. Also, there is downstairs area where you could dry off your gear. The Onsen overlooked gorgeous scenery. I could not recommend this place more!

Great service, primarily caters beeds of skiers and campers alike. The only downside on the location is the sulfuric gas coming from the natural geyser almost always hits the building, enveloping the hotel, smelling like rotten eggs. Be warned should you consider to book here.

This is a lovely place in the heart of a volcano. Great hiking all around. Great food. The onsen is wonderful. Don't have a single thing bad I could say about the place.

I reserved a bed in a shared room, which was a little difficult with no English support on the website. Having said that, every other thing was positive - the staff were friendly and helpful, facilities clean and plentiful, food delicious
