Otaru is a fantastic date spot with lots of cute little places to visit. This spot has a neat little cafe that serves floats and light meals. Rustic atmosphere with 3 piano performance time slots every week Tuesday-Friday . The pianist played a nice medley from jazz standards, Chopin to Zelda and ghibli tunes. There is a scent of burning petrol as the lamps in the store are fueled by kerosene. May be off-putting to some. Overall a nice little date stop

Their shops are beautiful like museums, with so many high quality glasswork on display. Even if you don’t plan to shop, you should at least come and see. And if you want to buy a souvenir, there are so many to choose from, and every one of them is beautiful in its own way.

Kitaichi Glass Otaru is a must-visit destination if you are in Otaru, Japan. The establishment is located in a beautifully restored historical building and is filled with exquisite glassware that is sure to captivate visitors of all ages. The store is divided into several sections, each showcasing different types of glassware, from ornate lamps and chandeliers to delicate figurines and vases. The attention to detail and craftsmanship of the pieces on display is truly impressive, and it is fascinating to watch the skilled artisans at work in the studio section of the store. In addition to the impressive selection of glassware, Kitaichi Glass Otaru also features a small cafe where visitors can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee while admiring the beautiful surroundings. The cafe's menu includes light snacks and desserts, and the prices are reasonable considering the high quality of the products. I highly recommend you visit Kitachi Glass Otaru. Beautiful glass merchandise made in Otaru. Otaru glass began in 1901 with the manufacturing of kerosene oil lamps before electricity and then later produced glass buoys for Otaru’s booming herring fishery during the Meiji and Taisho eras.

It was an amazing 🤩 experience. The glass ware were beautiful 😍couldn’t see all properly as I had a 2 years old daughter who was running around me. Go without kids then we can see all the items properly.

Excellent glass manufactory with a wide range of excellently produced fine local glassware made across the street. .

The most recognizable shop in Otaru, hence the disproportionate number of tourists. Koreans are especially numerous lately. One should consider the amount time resource and effort placed into to lighting the lamps daily before judging a review. I wouldn’t say that business is profitable despite the effort. Each gas lamp is handmade and retails for a premium. But hand made gas lamps are a growing rarity. Treasure them at its current prices.

Beautiful restaurant and the atmosphere was stunning. But the dessert were ok. There are three times of live piano performances every day.

We enjoyed wandering through the extensive displays of glass products - ranging from glasses, to jewelry, to vases, and more.

The glasswork on display is impeccable and impressive! The first floor has a bunch of various glassware, jewelry, and other knickknacks (their big shimenagas are adorable!), with the second story having the more impressive (and expensive) glassware. They don’t speak much English, but they were regardless very accommodating and I was able to navigate with my mediocre Japanese. Excellent service and excellent glassware!

Always enjoy the chill relaxing environment here. Great spot for a coffee, dessert or simple meals. The kerosene lamps take you back in time. And the live piano makes you want to stay and hang out. Highly recommended when you visit Sakaimachidori.

If I weren't traveling for 2 more weeks with many plane rides I would have bought glass, but I was too afraid of breaking a purchase. It was beautiful to window shop and there were yummy snacks throughout.

A little overly priced and too long a queue in front. The atmosphere is warm but actually not too unique, especially if you had been or travelled in Europe.

Amazing place, has a store where they sell many object made of glass, also has a traditional cafe (line is long, but service very fast, so you will not wait more than 10-15 min) The store is expensive, but you can find some cute things for about 1000 yen, they also sell jewelry (earings, necklaces starting from 1000 yen) and traditional japanese cups, glasses, tea sets etc.
