Lovely hostel to stay in! We spent 3 nights at Expo Hostel and the room was a great size, we had access to excellent bathroom and kitchen facilities. The staff were incredibly helpful and sold us daily bus tickets and organised bike rental. From the hostel it is a short journey to the Golden Temple and easy enough to get to the other main attractions by bus. Would recommend Expo Hostel to anyone travelling to Kyoto - one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in.

Rly nice hostel, quite a bit of space for japanese standards and actually not pricey at all! Nice quiet location with the most important things not too far away. Not so close to the center, but well connected. Only tid-bit was that, when we turned on the air conditioner there was a certain smell that was kinda uncomfortable to deal with. Not sure if it was the air conditioner or smth else though. Otherwise awesome place, would book again when in Kyoto, ありがとうございました。

Very reasonably priced for a mid ranged hostel. Guest to hostel ratio is not high so the restrooms were not congested. Place was sparkling clean and very well furnished. They had a bathtub shower room as well as a regular shower room. Heating was good in the rooms. Helpful instructions to main attractions were also given as part of their guest onboarding process.

My husband and I are planning another trip to Japan and this Hostel is in a perfect spot. The host was very warm and welcoming and spoke English perfectly. While my husband speaks Japanese, it was nice to be able to converse without word searching. When we do return, should we go back to Kyoto, we've already decided to book however many days in the City at Expo Hostel. You can't get better than this; we loved it. The rooms are small and traditional with the charming addition of a hanging rack for clothes on the balcony. As we are both somewhat of otakus, this really made us feel like we were seeing the "real" Japan. They also have bikes to rent which I highly recommend.

We had such a great stay at Expo. The staff were beyond friendly and accommodating. There are bikes to rent here and also little onsen kits to rent. They gave us a map of the area and pointed out some key locations right away (Nearby 7/11, onsen, restaurants, bus stop etc.) Everything was very close! Our room was so clean and the shared areas were as well. The rooms also have AC which was great. Would definitly recommend staying here in Kyoto.

Highly recommended place to stay in Kyoto. Room is very clean, cozy and quite, while the hosts are extremely kind. It’s a bit far from tourist area (30 mins by bus), but the bus stop is only 7 min walk away, and there are plenty of restos in the area.

Stayed in the owners Airbnb for two nights. Beautiful apartment right round the corner from the hostel which looked great as well. The owners are extremely friendly and offer great advice about the local area.

What a cute little place. Super friendly and eager-to-please staff. Kinda far from a lot of the city but nice, quiet, comfortable beds, big warm shower, etc.
