Our family of 3 had a really great experience here. It was both educational AND fun, especially the earthquake simulator. The host was very friendly and accommodating to our not speaking Japanese - he used one of those instant translator devices that reminded me of a Star Trek Communicator which was super fun in and of itself. It took about an hour to get there from our Ginza hotel but well worth it!

A really good experience. The film is with English subtitles, the personnel speaks enough English to give you the important part of the instructions. For some of the guidelines they also have English handouts. Knowing some Japanese is helpful but not necessary. The film is an animation taking you back to major earthquakes in the past with some learning from each situation. Fire extinguisher training is only from 9 years on, but smaller kids can watch. The smoke maze is also fun for small kids (ours are 3 and 6). The earthquake simulator is run as 6 with kids on board, as adult you can experience a 7. When you're not grown up in an area with earthquakes, it helps you to get some impression.

If you never experienced earthquake, you have to go there! There is earthquake simulator, fire extinguisher practice, simulation of foggy room plus many useful informations. Most of it is in Japanese, but pictures are obvious, so do not worry. There are two programs: brief and full. Full one take about 1.5 hour, but it worth it. It starts at 9:30 AM, so go there at morning. If you want only try earthquake simulator, go there before lunch time. Also stuff is really nice. Free entrance. One of the non-tourist attraction that definitely worth to visit.

this is a very nice feature that is open to anyone in Japan (free) to be given a brief and realistic free of how a respond in the event of a natural disaster such earthquake and fire, there is also first aid training. It was a very good experience and opportunity to see and feel how a 7 magnitude earthquake would feel like and to be able to survive. Along with prepare and emergency kit for such an event if it occurs.

If you're new to Japan I can't recommend a trip here enough so you understand what an earthquake feels Iike and what to do. The free 2 hour tour is in Japanese but the film parts are subtitled in English and tyou will easily get the gist from the instructions. You get a brief history of natural disasters in Japan and then you get to have a go extinguishing a fire (the kids loved letting off a real fire extinguisher). After that you are told how to evacuate a fire and the dangers of smoke, and escape a smoke (fog machine) filled room. Then the bit my kids adored, the earthquake simulation. They run a number, with lower magnitude quakes for little kids, up to the kanto earthquake, and the great Eastern Japan earthquake (I found this terrifying!)

Interesting experience. The earthquake simulation was unique. Demonstration starts with fixed schedule. Remember to check before you go.

We didn't do the whole tour of the education center. We just went for the earthquake simulator and experienced the 2011 9.0 earthquake. It was an amazing experience, even for people who have experienced earthquakes before. And it's free. The staff there were very friendly.

Read about this place so came here last week to learn and experience earthquake. It is just a short walk from Ikebukoru. Supposed to make a reservation in advance but there were few people so they could cater for walk-ins

Good thing to do for people who have just moved to Japan. From earthquake preparedness to fire fighting and escaping.
