A place where it has great 360 degree views of Aso. You can also take amazing photos here in good weather. Easy to access by car.

Poor & dirty toilet. Store & Food good service. If you come in winter, snow storm will freeze you like a frozen hell.

Beautiful vantage point over the area. There's a memorial also. From there, you can also see the volcano and learn a lot about the valley geological history and population implementation. Definitely worth the detour !

The Lookout points all along the Milk Road are really good. I honestly don't remember which one this was. We stopped at several spots to take in the view. Each stop had a little souvenir shop and sold things like ice-cream and coffee, as well as the usual t-shirts and other souvenirs. There were bathrooms at every stop as well. Definitely a unique place to see.

The Daikanbo Lookout, situated in Kumamoto, Japan, offers a breathtaking vantage point to witness the awe-inspiring beauty of Mount Aso and its surroundings. From my internet data up to September 2021, I can provide a review of this picturesque location. Daikanbo is perched at an elevation of approximately 1,000 meters, providing an unparalleled panoramic view of the iconic Mount Aso, one of the largest active volcanoes in the world. The vista here is simply stunning, especially during the different seasons, with lush greenery in spring and summer and a blanket of vibrant foliage in autumn. The lookout is well-maintained and easily accessible by car, making it an ideal spot for tourists and nature enthusiasts. Additionally, there’s a small visitor center where you can learn more about the region’s geological history and volcanic activity. One of the standout features is the ropeway that takes you even closer to the volcanic crater. It’s an unforgettable experience to witness the steaming vents and the immense volcanic caldera up close. In summary, Daikanbo Lookout is a must-visit destination for those exploring the Aso region. Its breathtaking views of Mount Aso and its easy accessibility make it a top choice for nature lovers and anyone seeking a glimpse into the powerful forces of nature that shape our world.

Hard to rate this attraction as it was foggy the day that I went. No views.

Try to visit when weather is clear. Even with a clear sky....it may look foggy...with all the gasses being vented out from the caldera. Make sure to have no health concerns (e.g., asthma, or/and heart issues) or being pregnant. They will ask before hand. That being said...I would recommend these to park near the top, which costs about 800yen. Much easier to go up and then down. Haha. Otherwise...there is a parking for 200yen near the bottom of the hill.

It was a great view of the caldera from the view point. From the parking, there is a small walk to the view point. I went there April and it was very cold so I recommend to bring some jackets with you!

Incredible views of the caldera and a relatively easy walk to the top. Weird souvenirs. Bathrooms are on the gross side.

It was super foggy when we got there, not much view was seen. It reminded me of Scotland. I may come back in the future. And hope I can see the view clearly next time.

Great lookout for viewing sunsets. It's also on the Milk Road which is an excellent drive up from Aso.

Pretty expansive view of that whole area. Great view in any angle and you can see Aso volcano from there. It’s a 5 min hike to the top from the parking lot.

One top spot of caldera which occurred by the volcanic activities in the past, breathtaking panoramic view of Aso area and other mountains

Such a breathtaking view from this lookout although we experienced -2c cloudy and windy day that day in March. Had a little climb from car park but the walk was definitely worth it to the top of the lookout where you can have 360 degree of bird eye view of Aso city and the craters. A place you don't wanna miss when you are around Mt. Aso. Lots of parking area and a souvenirs shop.

Great lookout to see Aso City! But, it is freezing and windy at the top during winter so please bring something warm!

Fantastic place, the signs also have English which is a bonus. Unfortunately when I went there it was a bit cloudy and foggy so didn't get the best view. But would highly recommend it if you are in the area.

Amazing place inside the Haso area.

  • 3/5 Mathieu D. 3 years ago on Google
Unique view of the entire Aso caldera. Unfortunately view was not great on the day we went (end of March) due to the seasonal dust blown over from China from the Gobi desert producing a white haze that limited visibility. Will have to go back!
