This probably the best museum in the museum complex of the park. It is the most severe contemporary design of the lot but contains the oldest antiquities of Japan, dating back to the 6th Century. It houses a fantastic collection of small buddha's in a room designed for them and the effect is wonderful, worth going to see it. Highly recommended

Completely hidden from the main entrance. I spent my entire day in all others museums, before figure it out... When it was too late

Interesting, but after seeing so many buddhist artifacts in the main gallery, it feels a little like more of the same. I am no expert though. This gallery is beautiful and modern, and less overwhelming like the others in terms of quantity of objects.

Do a little reading before coming, clearly these artifacts have immense historical significance! Ultimate reverent peaceful vibe ... I had to change my gait to ensure that my flip flop sounds were not ruining the atmosphere for everyone.

It’s one of the museum buildings in the Tokyo National Museum complex near Ueno Park. The collection on exhibition, Horyuji Temple’s Buddhism craft and art from the 7th Century, is rather limited but everything is displayed with amazing accuracy and attention to details. Surrounded by nature and a reflecting pond, the architecture itself also makes this museum a gem. Take your time and slow down a bit. You might forget that you’re actually in one of the world’s busiest cities.

Sparse, elegant space housing a beautifully curated collection of antiquities. Not crowded. Well worth a detour.

It is located within the section of the National Museum of Tokyo in Ueno Park. If you visit at sunset, you can see the sunset and harmony as a bonus. Of course, the artifacts inside are wonderful.

Included in the price of admission to the Tokyo National Gallery. One of two campus restaurants are located in this gallery. Average prices are ~ ¥1500 per person for lunch. Air conditioned and quiet. Beautiful gallery in modern building.

Best part of Tokyo National Museum. Modern building is the home of treasures of Horyuji Temple, build in 8 th Century.

Beautiful statues and treasures on display although the building is more prominent than its content in this case worth a visit

Good museum, many rooms and impressive pieces. Don't forget to visit the small annex on the left, it's worth it.
