If there is a place I was dreaming of to eat one day, it was Kappo Sanoya in Tokyo. My dream came through and more than I could even dream of. Master Sano and his Staff (or family?) offered to my daughter and me an unforgettable moment, who will last forever in our hearts. His cuisine is so far off the best I ever tasted. Coming myself from a gastronomic environment and from a cooking family, I am still under shock. I admire deeply, not only the cooking skills and philosophy but also the beautiful people behind it. Thank you so much from my daughter and me. Thank you for existing and sharing your passion. The world needs more of you.

We had two amazing meals at this fantastic restaurant! Chef Masayuki Sano was very attentive and every course was creatively prepared and delicious. The sake pairing was perfect and complimented the meal perfectly. Sanoya was one of my fondest experiences during my six months assignment in Japan.

Go to this restaurant! Two of us dined and we had the entire place to ourself. The chef is delightful, charming and very attentive. The food itself is a perfect balance of flavours and textures and really is an art. I left feeling full (but comfortable) it is the perfect amount of food... yet I didn’t want the dishes to stop coming! It was my first experience and my partners second and we would go back every time we are in Tokyo. Highly recommend the sake pairing as well.

I enjoyed a dinner with my spouse, after finding the restaurant via OpenTable. The menu was translated into English, though at least one of the courses was different than stated in it. The menu was mostly pesco-vegetarian, having one pork course as well. The chef spoke excellent English compared to many restaurants, where the staff usually don't understood or speak English at all. The meal itself was as kappo is described on the internet: multi-course meal that is left entirely up to the chef. The clue of the evening was not the food (which costed ca. 100 EUR with sake wine package), but the atmosphere. Some courses were brilliant , some just simply good but nothing exceptional. The sake-menu was so full that you get drunk if you try to drink everything ;-) This is a great restaurant for tourists visiting Japan and getting familiar with the food culture. Highly recommend!

Very special moment in Tokyo. I’ve been a lot of Omakase in Japan and Korea, but this restaurant gave me an unique experience. Must place to go if you want to have the best Japanese dining.

A harmony of flavours based on the season. We had a great evening and enjoyed everything. The chef decides the menu and the matching sake. He explained clearly how to best taste tyhe dishes, in clear English. All is very relaxed, no need to fear any mistakes. We got a mix of around 10 dishes with many different fish prepations, fantastic vegetables, great tomato's, really good meat and nice dessert. Seven different sakes for perfect tasting. Good value for money. Easy access next to subway. Very recommended.

We have spent the final evening of our three week trip in Japan here, and it has been by far the best meal of the trip – where we have been at such Michelin starred celebrity places like Kadowaki. Indeed, it has been one of the best meals in my life. You can feel the passion and attention to detail here in everything that's being served – it's more an obsession to detail than a mere passion. From a seemingly simple salad or fish starter, everything is perfect without putting on a show, just by selection of the ingredients and meticulous preparation. The multi-dish Hassun in a wooden box is a work of art in itself and just for a short moment, humor and playfulness show up – but to make sure this is not event cooking, it's followed up by sashimi and then by a humble looking soup that is so concentrated with flavor that you'd be happy to have it as the only dish somewhere else. Besides the food, there's a sake pairing that really accompanies the dishes perfectly – and whilst I'm not even a sake amateur, the pairing seemed much more in place than anywhere else we've been. Finally, but most importantly, Masayuki Sano is a perfect host: Respectful but not strict, witty but not flamboyant – indeed traits you can find in all of his dishes. If art is the expression of personality through a craft, this has been the most artistic evening I ever experienced.

Absolutely fantastic place! I came here by myself and I had a wonderful getting to know the chef and having dinner. I have been to many fine dining establishments around the US and the world, and I had one of the best times here. I tend to favor fine dining experiences that are a lot more casual, where the focus is on the quality of the ingredients separately and together, and about having a good time and enjoying others' company. Additionally, one of the great things that really made this experience for me was that the chef has spent time in the US and speaks English, and he love to converse, which is particularly useful when you're dining solo. Can't recommend this place enough! Remember to get a reservation, be respectful of Japanese dining culture (google it!), and be thankful to the chef. And share this place with others!

Amazing place. Atmosphere was pleasant and the staff were both very nice and helpful. The chef / owner spoke perfect English and kept the conversation flowing showing a genuine interest in us. The food was top notch and sake paired well. Definitely coming here again next trip.

An excellent Kappo meal one train station away from Shibuya in a residential neighbourhood. There is only one dinner set menu and the meal starts at 7pm. Chef Sano take guests on an enjoyable culinary journey of both delicate and intense flavours across the 9 course meal. The attention to detail is quite remarkable as Sano San prepares the dishes over the counter for guests. The rice with stewed pork belly is quite exceptional, while the liquid nitrogen apple sorbet is a nice finale to a splendid meal and an exclamation mark for the tecnicality of cooking techniques used. Excellent sake pairing. The price is very reasonable for the amount of effort and preparation required. Sano San speaks good English and not only translates all the items in detail, but also interacts with his guests at the end of the meal. His assistant enhances the experience, providing wonderful hospitality throughout the meal. Definitely worth a visit.
