(Translated by Google) It is beautiful and recommended when you go on a sunny day! Most of the exhibits are outside, and the only indoor facility is Picasso. It's close to the station, so it's easy to reach for a museum in Hakone, but you may not enjoy it much on rainy days. There are also athletics for children, so I think it's a museum that both parents and children can enjoy!

I had heard this had some great pieces, but I was blown away by the wonderful collection and even more amazing setting! For anyone interested in sculpture at all this is a must see (yes Henry Moore is one of my faves from Art in high school and there are a number of his pieces elegantly reclining amongst beautiful, serene landscapes!) But even more importantly it's a place you can go and not just see the sculpture, but walk around, see it in different light, with different backgrounds etc. One note is, give yourself plenty of time, the other note is you need cash in the cafe! Not sure why, everywhere else takes cards, but not the cafe. Oh, and give yourself time to enjoy the footbath!

This is definitely a modern art museum and honestly I don't totally get modern art, but it was well worth visiting. Walking around the expansive grounds was fun and the interesting collection of art was fun to see. Highly recommend giving this place a visit for anyone going to Hakone!

My first time at an open air museum. And I have to admit, the sky makes for a dramatic backdrop! The museum has a fairly diverse and thought provoking collection of artists from around the world. Sharing some pro-tips - it can take a good 4 hours to get through all the exhibits - there’s a fair bit of walking involved and the restaurants are only towards the end. So fuel up accordingly - you are likely to run out of phone battery clicking pictures all over, so do carry a power bank - there are coin operated lockers right outside the museum that can swallow bags of all sizes

Among my favourite museums, wish all museums were open air concepts, refreshing and not stuffy that way. Surrounding mountains were a nice touch, can’t imagine those were easy to install. Even in the winter, the yellowing grass contrasted well with all the exhibits, will absolutely be coming back again soon. Favourite piece was the metallic wedge of charred humans limbs; very heavy metal. And in contrast to that absolute darkness, my second favourite was the light bending glass tower that to my surprise, was decorated in pictures almost hidden if you don’t look carefully enough. I made it to the top but my battery died, so no picture but I will return in the spring and bring either a phone charger or a briefcase full of batteries to avoid the humiliation I faced carrying around a dead phone.

We had an incredible time at the Hakone Open-Air Museum. We went on a weekend and there was no waiting at all. The museum is spread out and gives you a lot of space to wonder around. The art pieces are really cool and vary across the site, the Picasso Pavilion was pretty cool as well and the tower with glass cover was incredible to see and experience.

This place was a great place for adults and children. Parking on-site, bring ticket to the pass gate for ¥500 all day fee. You will love walking through this park. Give yourself at least 3 hours as they close at 5:00pm. There are so many picture perfect sites. Bring a picnic too.

It was a bit pricey but it was really nice walking around in the open air museum and it was a great break from the train. My daughter even liked it because it was outside. I would recommend for anyone who isn't on a budget.

(Translated by Google) A few minutes walk from the Hakone Tozan Railway "Chokokunomori" station. The parking lot is also large. Works are widely exhibited indoors and outdoors. There is a stained glass "symphony sculpture that calls happiness" that has become famous. There are many other works by Picasso and sculptural art as the name suggests. It is an art facility that makes you want to spend time on a sunny day.

I'm surprised at how many people have complained about the entrance fee being high, considering how large the location is and that there is a Picasso museum within the park. If you have a baby, I recommend leaving the stroller behind if you can and opt for a baby carrier instead. Some areas, like the koi fish pond, are not stroller friendly (but still doable, as I saw one poor dad lugging the stroller around). We spent around 1 1/2 hrs here but you could definitely make it a half day or maybe even full-day if you wanted to. It's also a nice place to go to if you want to avoid indoor areas because of COVID.

It is a nice place to pay a visit, but there is only one play ground for kids. And the toilet near the play ground is totally old and not clean. However, the Picasso’s art works are pretty, and the art works outside are really beautiful. Personal recommend: ★ ★ ★ Family-friendly: ★ ★ ★ Date for couples: ★ ★ ★ ★ Parking lot: ◯ 500 yen for 5 hours Services/meals/products/design: ★ ★ ★ ★ Period for stay: 2 hours Charge: adults 1,600 yen per person kids, free Baby room/accessible toilet: ◯ Cleanness: ★ ★

It’s a sculpture museum featuring lots of open space and interactive pieces. There are several facilities designed for children, and many visitors, mostly Japanese people, take their children with them. It’s a nice refreshing stop that can add some fresh air into your trip. I recommend paying attention to the weather forecast as the region is very prone to fog and rain.

A really nice place to visit while you're in Hakone. There are a lot of interesting pieces of art and we enjoyed walking around on our last morning in the area. I wouldn't say to go out of your way to visit here, but if you have time and you're nearby, it's worth it. The Picasso gallery was very interesting, I was surprised to see that they had so many original pieces in such a remote museum in Japan. There are quite a few interactive sections for kids. And there is a lot of English.

It’s a sculpture museum featuring lots of open space in a beautiful location that surrounds mountains. superbly maintained landscaped gardens, walkways and well-curated pieces. They have some of Picasso's work. The kids below 12 have areas to have fun too. A brief visit will definitely take a couple of hours. Keep in mind the weather before planning to visit.

Absolutely wonderful! Majestic location in the mountains, with an amazing setting of beautifully landscaped gardens, walkways, forest paths, and well-curated pieces of world-renowned artists and sculptors. The mood is serene and calming, and the experience is one of awe and beauty. My family and I spent a few hours, before it closed for the day, and there was still a good bit of exhibition to which we did not get. But, it was a delightful experience, and we will return.

It was an absolute delight exploring the vast collection of outdoor sculptures and the captivating works of Pablo Picasso. 🏞️💫 The museum's picturesque setting amidst the stunning Hakone mountains created a serene atmosphere that perfectly complemented the art on display. From the moment we stepped foot into the museum, we were greeted by a world of beauty and creativity. The open-air concept allowed us to appreciate the sculptures in their natural surroundings, and it felt like walking through an artistic wonderland. 🌿🗿 The Picasso Pavilion was a true highlight of our visit. We were mesmerized by the diverse range of Picasso's masterpieces, showcasing his innovative and ever-evolving style. The museum did an excellent job of curating the exhibition, providing insight into the artist's life and artistic journey. It was fascinating to see iconic paintings, ceramics, and sculptures up close, and to witness the depth of Picasso's creativity. 🎭🖌️ What made the experience even more enjoyable was the museum's interactive features. We were able to participate in various art installations and even create our own masterpieces at the workshop. 🎨 The knowledgeable staff were friendly and provided valuable information about the artworks, enhancing our understanding and appreciation of Picasso's genius.

Nice walk outside among the artworks. There's also a small building inside the park with an interesting exhibition about Picasso. It was quite English friendly. I didn't put 5 stars just because most of the art pieces are European (especially France) and I wished more diversity. It doesn't mean I don't recommend it though.

(Translated by Google) I enjoyed it so much even if I wasn't interested in sculpture. There are some that are easy to understand like Rodin, but there are many so-called avant-garde works that are rather incomprehensible. However, it feels like I'm looking at the depictions that appear in manga and anime somewhere. I can't help but feel like I saw the 4th photo in Berserk. Japanese manga and anime are said to be of high quality, but it may be better to arrange or incorporate them from other works of art such as sculpture. Is it about an hour if you go around slowly? It's been a revisit since I was a family when I was a kid, but I could hardly remember anything other than the entrance square, so even if I've been there once, I think I can enjoy it for the first time in a while.

(Translated by Google) A very spectacular museum. There are many outdoor and indoor exhibition halls in a large park. The luxurious time to enjoy various arts while taking a walk is the best. The stained glass tower was difficult to climb, but it was very beautiful from the inside. There is also a space where children can enjoy themselves, so I think the whole family can enjoy it all day long. One of the most beautiful open museum I have ever been in, the place is amazing, first of all the building at the entrance is wow then you go outside and walk around with all the art there you can spend 3-4 hours easy. There was a Picasso building with paints of him and other arts, you can even seat and relax with a feet bath in the middle of the park. Great place!

Beautiful open air museum set in an incredible mountain backdrop. Lots of awesome sculptures including some interactive ones that kids can play on. There’s also an awesome indoor Picasso exhibit with 300 works (no photos allowed). Quite a bit of walking, so something to keep in mind if you’re differently able, although there are ramps which is good. Worth noting is the gift store - one of the most unique I’ve seen, so bring some spending money for that!

Great exhibition of different artists that fits perfectly into the landscape. Very varied and entertaining. Many exhibits can be experienced directly, they may be touched or walked through. Especially suitable for children of all ages. At different times of the year you get different impressions.

The reason this place is really nice is because you can take your kids to museum but you don't have to be too worried about making them quiet. As long as it's a nice weather, you can basically spend the whole day slowly walking around, and let your kids run around. All the sculptures and the art is also dynamic and is in harmony with the nature. You cannot get proper food there as there's only hot dog that can be counted as food. He brought small sandwiches for our kids.

I was so excited to visit here, and I'm glad I did! The Hakone Open-Air Museum is very big and has many different exhibits to look at. It's kid-friendly and has a playground of sorts for them. The small cafe we visited had some nice treats, and the staff were friendly. Don't forget to dip your feet in the foot spa, too! We finished our time there (about 2 hours since we entered...) with the museum shop. There's so many cute trinkets from canvases of artworks to bookmarks. You'll definitely find something you like. 5/5 will visit again the next time I'm in the Hakone area!

When I planned my trip to Hakone, this place was at the bottom of my list. Boy, I was proved wrong! This was a wonderful experience with so much to see, where the nature surrounding it being just as enthralling as the sculptures scattered around. The Picasso Pavillion and the Clock tower with stained glass were definitely major points, but so is the beautiful garden and koi fish pond. It was so peaceful walking around it and ended up spending about 3 hours just being amazed by it. Only regret not doing it during my first day when the weather was sunny. If you come to Hakone, definitely don't skip the Open Air Museum.

This museum for me is beautiful! It's a mixture of art appreciation and relaxation. They have a museum for some of Picasso's work . The kids have areas to have fun too! They have a maze, an activity area and craft area. There were families with small children when we visited. And after a long walk around the meandering green, one can relax at a foot bath beside the cafe.

Cool exhibits in a lovely park. It's worth visiting if you have the time and especially if you are a Picasso fan. You can probably see the entire exhibit in 30-45 mins at a speed run. But at a more leisurely pace you can end up spending up to 2h here. They have a restaurant at the entrance and a cafe mid may through the park. 2 gift shops are also available when you exit. We purchased thickets in advance online but there wasn't a long wait at the entrance anyway. Be mindful that the last entry was at 4:30 when we visited in Nov.

It was worth a visit. It’s a huge area. We spent a little over an hour here. Lots of sculptures. Our favorite was the stained glass tower. It’s tall, beautiful and very instagram worthy. This open air museum is great for the whole family. There is even an interesting playground structure for kids only. There’s also building with Picasso’s work in it but they don’t allow any photographs or video.

Really enjoyable, especially if you have a nice weather day. It was extremely windy today but sunny so it was manageable. It’s a beautiful space and the art is interesting. It reminds me of Louisiana Art Museum in Denmark with a less-impressive indoor collection (Hakone’s) although they have a Picasso ceramic exhibit which was cool to see. I’d love to have had coffee/a snack here but it just wasn’t the day for us for that. If you’re in the area it’s worth it to come here. I don’t know if I’d take a special trip just for this place but to each ‘er own. The architecture is awesome, too. I was kinda sad that adults aren’t allowed to play in the net installation.

However, by knowing the title and intention of the work, and the process by which the work is made, I am impressed and impressed, or I feel the joy of deepening my knowledge. This museum, which can be simply moved, can be enjoyed by a wide range of people, from amateurs like me to true authors, and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. In particular, the Picasso Museum explained in detail how the Picasso started up and how the style changed, and I was able to appreciate it in an interesting way. It was my 4th visit this time, but there is no doubt that it will be a museum that I definitely want to visit again in the next few years. This place is good more of a park like. It has some statues, a colorful tall glass building, galleries etc. The park is well arranged. The best thing of this park is its cleanliness, the worst part would be the naked statues. I would suggest this place for the kids, if it would not have the naked statues. At the beginning there is a naked statue of a man, that seems ridiculous to me. In terms of accessibility it has all features for the disabled persons. There is a souvenir shop and a restaurant. You can enjoy footbath on onsen water(hot spring). I saw many kids are there taking footbath. The glass tower is fascinating. We finished checking everything within two hours of entering the musuem. The musuem was not as mesmerizing as I thought before going there.

I highly recommend going here. Make sure the weather is good or else you'll be miserable as 95% of the art is outside. Parking is right outside and cost 500 yen for 5 hours. Also there's good food at the restaurants. 2200 yen for the buffet place. I'd rate the food about a 3/5 though. Overall, wonderful visit.

(Translated by Google) It is a push without complaint. It's good that the year-end and New Year holidays are not closed. The first place you want to go when you come to Hakone. There are few mornings because it is a weekday during the year-end and New Year holidays due to the corona. The number of people has finally increased since the weather has improved after noon, but is it about 1/2 to 1/3 of normal times? After all it is an outdoor type, so it is quite difficult when the weather is bad. The hall is large, and the main exhibition is outdoor sculptures. All of them are wonderful, but the Picasso Pavilion and Symphony sculpture are must-haves. Isn't the Picasso Pavilion free of charge for admission to the Hakone Open Air Museum? As fulfilling as I think. However, shooting inside the building is prohibited. The so-called Instagram-worthy points are the square and the symphony sculpture. No matter how you take it, it will be a picture, so many people will want to see it. It got a little wet after the rain and I was scared of the stairs and the rooftop, but it didn't affect the shooting inside. When it's crowded, I'll wait for a while, even if it's up and down. There are other footbaths and there are many places to rest, so I think it's a good idea to spend half a day slowly. There aren't many places to eat rice, so it's crowded, so you can bring it in. If you look closely at the exhibition, it may take about 2.5 to 3 hours. It's vacant in the morning, so you can see it with almost no stress at 9 o'clock when it opens, and I think you can get out and go to dinner before 12 o'clock. Re-entry is OK, so I think it's a good idea to go around again, such as the one you forgot to see. The inside of the building is also large. I think it's good when the shoes aren't easy to walk. There are no excursion rides, so if your legs hurt, it's hell. There is a footbath in the back, so you can recover from fatigue. If you don't have a towel, you can buy it on the spot for 100 yen. There is also a picture and it can be used as a souvenir ◎ Please note that some places cannot be photographed. The stained glass corridor is a masterpiece, but be careful if you are not good at it because it is tall and you can see the bottom and your legs are shrugged. The stairs themselves are narrow and only for one person. If you do your best, it will be a nice view with a good view. There are plenty of cafes and shops, and there are lots of "cute" things. There are also suspension bridges and ponds, and exhibits for children to play with. There was also an art quiz hall, and the exhibition there was also good. It’s is very easy to access via Hakone Tongan local train. By bus you need to walk for more that 5-8 mins. Every time we visit this place we like it even better. Great outdoor place with free space for kids to roam and play. We got to pose like some of the exhibits , kids enjoyed it a lot. The best part for kids is “woods of net”. It’s an indoor kids of play area for kids under 12 years of age. It’s a big area and you have to walk, so they have “not foot bath” and it’s free of cost, you need to carry a napkin to make your feet dry, else they have a sending machine where you can buy the towel/napkin. Gift shops and the cafe are near the exit of museum. For just few exhibits you can take photo , for else you can. Kids enjoy feeding the fish.

I took my one-year-old daughter on a family trip. The park is very spacious, and we enjoyed a pleasant walk on a nice spring day. My daughter was really fascinated with all the objects in the park. There're so many colorful, playful objects that you can even enter and feel swallowed by art sometimes. It is a sculpture garden, so it is more comfortable than usual museums, and anyone can enjoy an arty walk here. The park is very large, so bringing your own water bottles is a must, especially if you're bringing a little one. We walked a lot to find a café. It was nice to enjoy the footbath with yuzu citrus. My girl was fascinated with catching them. I would like to visit this museum again.

A must-go when you're in the Hakone area, especially for art lovers. Spent half of the day in here and my kids loved it!

One of my absolute favorite museums I’ve visited in Japan! Went there with my husband during our vacation trip to Hakone, and we loved every minute of our time there. The sculpture and the beautiful nature create such beautiful synergy and it’s very enchanting. The environment is so inviting and refreshing, it stimulates your mind, heart, while you get some exercise in walking around their massive facility. It reminded me of the DeCordova sculpture park in Lincoln MA but much bigger. Picasso museum is amazing as well! I’d definitely go back again!

Great open air museum. Well spaced out artwork in the backdrop of nature / forest. Simply lots to see - sculptures / outdoor and indoor installations + a picasso gallery, areas for kids to play etc.

It's a museum that felt like it was in the middle of nowhere. But now when I look at the map, there's definitely things around. On a nice day, this is a good museum. I can see how it would be difficult when the weather is bad. We had lunch here. Decent cafeteria food. Picasso doesn't fascinate me as much. But the fact that such as nice museum in what seems to be in the middle of nowhere kind of exemplifies priorities in the Japanese culture. (Oh, the school students on their field trip saying 'thanks for the food' all together and cleaning up after themselves was nice to see too.)

A variety of art in a really gorgeous setting. Photogenic and contemplative in turns, with a lot of different environs (open grassy hillside, gardens, woods, koi pond) and sculpture selected to complement each. The symphonic tower was really magical, beautiful to look at inside and from the top as well. The Picasso collection is interesting and a very atypical selection of his works, especially including some from his final years. Highly recommended if you don’t actively dislike art museums.

Must see for art lovers. It features a museum dedicated to Picasso's works. You could really spend the whole day here. The are some kid-friendly areas too with interactive activities for the kids. I enjoyed the most the open air setup so you can stroll at your own pace and enjoy the fresh air!

BEST MUSEUM EVER! Do not skip this outdoor sculpture museum if you’re in Hakone! It featured some of the coolest modern art sculptures and installations I’ve experienced. The grounds and landscape were stunning - so well designed and just beautiful. We were able to walk the whole thing (quickly) in 1.5 hours, but I’d recommend going slower and taking your time over a 2-2.5 hour time period. There are so many pathways and no “right” way to explore the grounds - you can just wander and find creative art pieces integrated into the landscape. It’s done so thoughtfully. And then the indoor Picasso museum was dedicated to Picasso’s life and artworks. We learned so much reading about his life, inspirations, and romances. Fascinating! They had plenty of bathrooms, easy parking, a small cafe, a foot bath onsen, and a cool gift shop. Tickets were affordable and so worth it! We took the bus from our ryokan and it was easy to navigate with Google Maps on our phones.

It's a great site. The highlight is the scenery, for sure. On the other hand, the museum is in great part catered to children, which makes you feel like you are at Disneyland. It ruins the experience a bit.

This place exceeded my expectations! We spent way longer than expected and enjoyed the hot foot bath there because our feet were hurting so much. Such a lovely space! Loved all the art, sculptures, stained glass, and Picasso pieces. Definitely definitely a must see.

This is a stunning art museum with many interesting and aesthetically pleasing art installations. There are many large-scale art design projects nearby, and inside the museum, there is a Picasso art museum for enthusiasts to visit. The indoor design of the spiral tower is particularly impressive and not to be missed. This is definitely a must-visit art museum.

Fantastic. Manages to be both extremely kid-friendly but also very beautiful and tasteful. Our young kids had a blast and even enjoyed some of the art

Walk-in , foreign tourist . An impressive range of sculptures by different sculptors from around the world . Besides from sculptures, it allows you to immerse yourself in the picturesque scenery of Hakone from Sounzan . A nice place for parents with children or art nerds . Very nice picture taking place for photographers . There's some restaurants and shops , so it's nice for a longer visit .

One of the best museums I visited here in Japan. Enjoyed arts and nature at the same time. Visited during the Summer vacation so there are many kids who are enjoying the place. The entrance fee was 1600 yen for adults but got a discount of 200 yen because we purchased a Hakone pass.

Wow! What a place to be. Highly recommend a visit to this museum. This place displays modern and contemporary art. The museum is well maintained. Beautiful landscapes and views. Art is exemplified here and can be viewed for what it truly is. This is a great place to take the family. There is so much to see and do here. Cost 1600 yen Multiple levels of gardens and art. The open air museum views the mounts and beach. There are places to buy food, drinks and souvenirs. I highly recommend thos place and will be a returning customer.

The most spectacular and thoughtfully curated art gallery in a breathtaking setting. The the beauty of the giant sculptures is enhanced by the sheer natural beauty of the surroundings. The additional treat are the exhibits in the Picasso pavilion. The must see if going to view Mount Fuji.

Absolutely amazing museum, really enjoyed my visit, went there with my wife and 2.5yo and was a great moment for the whole family, I enjoyed walking around the museum, taking loads of pictures, my wife enjoyed the art and my daughter had so much fun including in the kids structure. Would strongly recommend visiting if you're in Hakone.

We had a really enjoyable couple of hours walking around and taking in the amazing artwork and scenery. We came out of the museum feeling really relaxed and content with the experience. Three things worth noting are: 1. you can get a discount on entry if you show your Hakone Day Pass; 2. while you can rush around and see things quickly, I would definitely give yourself a couple of hours to absorb everything and read about some of the artwork; 3. not all artwork has English translations, so make sure you've got your Google translate handy!

One-of-a-kind place where serious art / sculptures lovers, families, tourists and casual strollers will all enjoy! Beautifully laid out and maintained groups with sculptures lining trails. Impressive Picasso museum, special kid activities , nice paths for walking. Highly recommend a hour or two if you’re in Hakone.

Absolutely terrific sculpture park museum with spectacular views of the Hakone mountain terrain. Probably my favorite museum/park anywhere in the world so far. Lots of cool exhibits including some interactive, kid friendly ones

There are two incredible feelings you can experience here. One is being out in the open air, high in the mountains of Japan. The other is warming your feet in communal hot water. Don't miss this out if you're nearby. They have giant eggs you can lie on.

Great atmosphere and a lively experience. The art is both inside and outside with a variety of sculptures. There is a forest to explore and the indoor Picasso exhibit was quite interesting. You can store bags of all sizes in either lockers (100 yen coin) or for free if it’s too big.

A beautiful open air museum. The grounds are beautiful. The warm springs make for a nice break and the art varies between boring through interesting and to beautiful. The Picasso exhibit was the most boring part in my opinion. Recommended!

Super huge outdoor museum that you can easily spend hours in. Outdoor sculptures, Picasso exhibit and more! There’s a cafe with a nice seated area facing floor to ceiling windows for you to people watch and chill in. The stained glass tower is really beautiful. Overall a place worth a visit if you’re in hakone.

Place is vast. We went during August, so it's summer. It was very hot so we have to go around the place quickly. Here you can see different arts and architecture coming from various artist from different parts of the world. They also showcase some of Picasso's best work together with brief stories about it. Nice place to visit if you love art, but the place itself has a nice ambience and a good place to just relax and enjoy the view.
