This ryokan absolutely blew me away! It was incredible. The level of service and attention to detail was unlike anything I have ever experienced. The staff were so kind and attentive, they seemed to always be one step ahead in anticipating our needs. We stayed in the Autumn leaves room which was beautiful and was overlooking the nearby stream. Listening to the water while going to sleep was like a dream. The room also had a traditional Cypress Bath which was so relaxing after a hard day's walk up Mt Misen. For me however, the main highlight was the food, everything single thing served was divine. We also were given perfectly fitting Yatuta to wear for dinner which were so elegant and comfortable that we also wore them to breakfast as well. Due to this ryokan only having 4 rooms the dining experience is extra special, the occupants of each room are sat in separate areas which given it the feel of a private dining experience. It really was incredible, quite possibly the best place I have ever stayed.

Amazing ! An incredible Island with stunning scenery, words cannot fully describe nor do it justice. The family who own and run the Watanabe Inn are some of the nicest people we had the pleasure of meeting in Japan. They are extremely helpful and super friendly. The food is Excellent! Cannot wait to return someday.

We stayed in overnight at Watanabe and the service was amazing. The food was completely fresh, tasty and something that you'd find in expensive degustation restaurants. Cannot fault them at all and they've made my honeymoon one to remember. We'll definitely be back year after year.

The most magical inn ever! The location is perfect—just a 10 minute walk to the ferry station, and it’s right at the base of Daisho-in. They picked us up at the station so we wouldn’t have to carry our luggage. When we arrived, it was hours before check-in, but they invited us to sit down and enjoy a cup of tea and a manju. After we got our bearings and felt refreshed, we went out to explore until it was time for check in. This is a traditional ryokan, so you’ll be greeted with a low table and tea when you first enter the room. There are chairs on the enclosed balcony if you want to enjoy the view. The traditional shower/bath is made with hinoki wood, and they had a bath drawn and a hot kettle for tea when we checked in. Our room overlooked the back yard, which is right on the bank of the stream and adjoining forest. We could hear the flowing water, frogs, and the leaves in the wind. I’ve never felt so calm! You can watch people hiking up the mountain path during the day. The food was absolutely delicious, and we felt cared for from start to finish. This inn is run by a family: grandparents, parents, and their kids. They are the sweetest family, and they made sure we were comfortable, relaxed, and VERY well-fed. We are already planning to come back next year!

The udon soup was lovely, but the view was what made it a special lunch.

This place is amazing!! If you visit Miyajama, do yourself a favor and stay in this ryokan. The family who owns the ryokan has had the place in business for 100 years. They've perfected the experience you'll have here -- from the incredible hospitality, friendliness and food, everything was so very special. They also speak English. Highly recommend this spot!

If I could give this inn 20 stars, that still not be enough! We only live about 45 minutes south of Miyajima, but Watanabe has been our GO-TO getaway weekend place for years. The inn is family owned and operated, and you will feel just like that. Superb, fresh local cuisine and unsurpassed service. If you are looking for a true Japanese inn experience, this is the place.

Ryokan Watanabe is a small, family run ryokan that is the epitome of the wonderful hospitality and cuisine that Japan has to offer. The beautiful building is truly authentic. The family are incredibly helpful, and really look after you. Staying here overnight also gives you the chance to see the peaceful side of Miyajima, after the last ferry full of tourists have departed.

This place was a dream come true. Shockingly, I was their only guest on a Saturday night in July - criminal! This was the ultimate ryokan experience and I want everyone to experience it. The couple were incredibly nice and polite, the room was fantastic, and I ate everything at dinner and breakfast - including the fish heads! If you do a ryokan experience in Japan, let it be this one. Miyajima empties out at night and the views of the Otorii Gate are incredible. Take advantage of this golden opportunity!

Simply the best experience we had so far in Japan. The Watanabe is a lovely family and it’s obvious that they love to host people from all over the world. We felt that they care a lot about us feeling at ease and calm during our stay, yet they were very discrete. The rooms are very clean, the bath is amazing and the food we had was really really good and was even better than we would have expected. This Ryokan is high quality regarding the relatively low price. Thank you again a lot. Adrien and his mother.

Really friendly staff, beautiful traditional inn with great access to all the main attractions of Miyajima. Great way to just get away and relax. They offer a pickup and dropoff service from the ferry docks.
