Definitely one of the best tempura place in town. The seafood and veggies is super fresh, especially the shrimp, as it was still alive. The food was served one at a time, cooking in from of you. Last but not least, the bowls and cups are so pretty.

We decided to spoil ourselves with a high end tempura experience for a special occasion. We found Onodera Namiki Dori after some research. It's the newer of two branches in Ginza. Located on the 6th floor of an unassuming building, once you go in, you're greeted with a very high end traditional Japanese setting. It's a small venue that can maybe sit max 10 to 12 customers. We opted for dinner which is an omakase course. We also booked early (they open at 6pm for dinner service) and were very lucky to have the restaurant to ourselves for the first hour before the next guest arrived. This made it a truly memorable experience for us. Suzuki-san, the head chef, was an absolute delight, taking the time to explain each dish and engage in small talk while effortlessly preparing and making each dish. The quality and execution of each was immaculate. Even though many of the dishes were deep fried, we didn't feel as heavy by the end as one would think. Would highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for high end tempura. Yes, it's pricey but worth the experience as you'll walk out having tried the best possible versions of tempura classics like prawn, mushrooms, eggplant but will have also tried tempura you'd likely never have before, ranging from unique fishes we had never had before to uni being wrapped in shiso and fried. You'll need to book in advance and can do so online. Suzuki-san and his team all speak some English, which is great. Also worth mentioning that the last dish before dessert was a true highlight, you get to pick how you want your kakiage. Believe there were 4 or 5 choices ranging from having it as a rice set to being set on top of soba noodles. We opted for ochazuke (rice with a tea-based dashi broth) which was sublime!

Great dinner experience here last week. We really enjoyed everything that was given to us. The atmosphere was very relaxing. Great sake and beer choices to go with our tempura omakase.

Good service and atmosphere. It was quite disappointing that I did not have the opportunity to try on the sea urchin tempura, thinking that my set would have sea urchin when I made reservations. It seems like if you would want to try sea urchin, it is only available at the highest price set only. However, overall experience was nice

Famous restaurant offering very high quality tempura made right before your eyes. Expect ritualistic service and a meal priced on the high end.

Not your traditional tempura restaurant, so expect some new takes on “tempura.” However, low atmosphere score was due to no air conditioning on the night we were there for dinner - which made for a very uncomfortable night in the confined space. Would have appreciated a call from the restaurant to warn us of the problem so patrons would have had a choice to come in or not.

I had a reservation at 11:30am on December 11, 2023, and it was the best meal and service we had in Japan during our family trip. The manager who greeted and hosted us was so kind, considerate, and attentive, and we were able to communicate with him in English. We would love to come back just for the level of service he provided. My Japanese friend who was born and raised in Shinjuku highly recommended this place for tempura, and food was amazing as well. Our favourite was scallop. Some high-end, authentic Japanese restaurant can be difficult to navigate without speaking fluent Japanese, but this was such a welcoming restaurant for foreigners that serves great authentic Japanese food.

Nice small tempura restaurant with about 10 seats. Great service. Set menus made things easier to choose. Need to book in advance. Entrance is not obvious for those who do not read Japanese, but Google finds the place fine.

Wonderful dining experience with incredible tempura. The staff and chef were so friendly with my wife and our 3 children and they all had an incredible experience. We would recommend this to anyone coming to Tokyo. The tofu tempura and mushroom tempura were favorites. Thank you again!

Love the tempura here. I could taste the natural sweetness of the seafood. Not greasy at all. Atmosphere was relaxed and not overly formal. Chef was friendly and took pride in the food he made.

Had an absolutely wonderful experience here. I recommend making reservations due to limited seating and timeslots. Manager and Sommelier Yuki Inoue was very friendly and informative (Spoke English). He helped suggest a few sake pairings that went well with the tempura omakase lineup. Executive Chef Yuya Uchi and his team were exceptionally coordinated and did an excellent job delivering delicious tempura and informing us on how it should be eaten. The food was exceptional. The batter was light, hot, and crispy. The ingredients were fresh or prepared with care. My wife and I could've kept to ourselves, and dinner would've been great, but we chose to engage with the staff, and our experience here was elevated. I would suggest that you also choose to engage with wonder and an open mind. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a fantastic and unique experience!

👍 A very nice sushi bar at Tsukiji Outer Fish Market. We went in the morning and there were tables available. The selection was great and the sushi even better. Ordering in English was easy via a tablet. The bill is attached to the back of your seat, you just take it to the till to pay.
