Grand Sumo Tournament is held in March for 2 weeks every year. Highly recommend checking it out when you're in Osaka during that time. Sumo's rule itself is quite straightforward, but the ceremonies and rituals conducted before each match is unique in its own right. It would be better to familiarize yourself with them before watching the matches since there will not be explanations about them on the day.

Great experience, surprisingly small but great atmosphere. It smelt strange but otherwise wonderful memory.

Arena was straightforward and easy to navigate. Kiosks with snacks and swag easily accessible. Good views even from high seats and we were in the very last row on the easy side. Highly recommend attending for a sumo tournament!

A great place to see the sumo tournament. Good views from even the higher level seats. The arena was set up with floor boxes with padded rests and higher plastic seats with padding also. Easy to access from the nearby Namba station and an easy walk down from the river precinct. Toilets were good and English sign posts assist to find our way around.

Really amazing experience to see sumo up close, can be repetitive with all the matches before the higher ranked players get into the ring.

I have seen 2 sumo tournaments here and it's such a fun, unique, and enjoyable experience. The arena is beautiful and offers traditional Japanese seating, condiments, omiyage, and English assistance. The best part is that you can bring your own food and drinks into the arena and have your own picnic while watching the game. Pro tip: Try to identify a few wrestlers ahead of time to root for, it makes the experience more collaborative and lots of observers will appreciate the support.

My first and only sumo wresting experience. We were seated close to the top and bought the second lowest priced seats but the view was still really good. There are box seats you can rent which cost more but you sit on the floor so there is no back rest. These can fit up to 4 people but I think i prefer having an actual seat. We were there for 3 hours. You can rent a seat cushion I think as we saw some people with them. That might have been something i’d consider paying for depending on the price. It does get really warm in there during the competitions so bringing a fan with you isn’t a bad idea. Overall we had fun and started to understand and get the hang of the rules and traditions of sumo wrestling.

Went to see a Sumo tournament here. Definitely worth doing if you are going to be in the area at the appropriate time. You'll need to plan ahead though. Tickets for the day we went sold out months before we got to Japan. We went with the traditional tatami seating and that was definitely the right call! It was really fun being somewhat closer to the action and honestly I found it more comfortable than typical western arena type seating. I would absolutely like to go again for the Sumo but the venue itself was really really nice as well. It had plenty of space. Easy to get into and out of etc.

I’ve been at the arena today for a Sumo tournament - it was crazy and intense experience for me (I think mainly because I was a foreigner), the arena employees were very welcoming and kind they also had good English, the signs in the arena are without English, the arena wasn’t air conditioned (at least today) and it was very hot and humid, the sitting area was spaced and convinced, no seats in the toilets.

First time watching Sumo, it was great. The box seats are a little cramped if you can buy two seats in a box to stretch your legs. I had a great time

An absolute blast to finally see a Sumo match! The whole experience was amazing. I highly recommend if you are in town and there's a match going on to try and see it.

We managed to score ourselves some good seats by buying the tickets online as they released Japan time. So an early 2am start a few weeks in advance of our visit to Japan was made worth it by the amazing performances of all the sumo! What a great experience to witness

Absolutely amazing! If you're a tourist, add this to your list of things to do in Japan! Great cultural experience, and I would just get a seat in the stands, great view still, unless you don't mind sitting on the floor.

Got to see sumo here in March 2009 before returning back home after working as an ALT. The stadium felt smaller than other arenas so it made for better pictures.
