After
the
big
typhoon
of
09/04/2018,
I
decided
to
take
a
taxi
here
on
09/05,
and
found
out
that
their
electricity
was
out,
as
was
most
of
Kansai's
power
grid.
Although
I
had
to
wait
about
an
hour
until
about
2:00
PM
before
they
opened
the
doors,
I
had
the
pleasure
of
experiencing
my
first
visit
to
a
Costco
in
Japan,
as
well
as
their
emergency-preparedness
first-hand.
In
fact,
the
damage
wrought
by
the
typhoon
on
the
Amagasaki
branch
prompted
a
response
by
Costco's
Tokyo
division
to
dispatch
two
of
their
regional
managers
to
coordinate
and
restart
operations
here.
It
was
most
impressive.
So,
all
refrigerated
products
had
to
be
discarded
due
to
the
outage,
and
the
Costco
employees
were
awesome
enough
to
start
handing
out
generous
samples
from
the
bakery
and
condiments
section.
This
Costco
carries
a
lot
of
product
that
are
distinctly
opposite
of
Seattle--no
Chromebooks,
but
tons
of
Apple
Macbooks
and
eye-popping
price
tags
on
Sony
4K
televisions
in
excess
of
19,000,000
yen.
A
very
challenging
day
for
all
after
the
storm,
but
I'm
now
confident
in
Costco's
ability
to
effectively
execute
emergency
responsiveness.
