Wow! Probably the best obanzai restaurant we have tried (and some others have been tasty and creative-see my other reviews). Every dish hit the right notes in terms of combining flavors and textures. Among the most memorable were eggplant and herring, seared duck breast with wasabi, namafu in dashi, and corn tempura. Sashimi very fresh. Reservations at least one day in advance required. English menu available. Chef speaks English too. For more travel information, visit NextStageTravel dot com.

Highly recommend. Food was very well prepared, high quality ingredients, and great presentation. The vibe is old school, but kept up well. You will need to remove your shoes upon entering. I recommend sitting at the bar if you can as the chefs are quite friendly and speak a little bit of English.

This was our introduction to obanzai food, Kyoto cuisine. There was so much we wanted to try so we definitely over-ordered but all dishes we tasted were amazing. Our highlight was for sure the potato salad, the okra and tofu side dish, the whole boiled onion with meat sauce and the nama-fu. And the minced meat katsu. Very yum 🤤 Bookable via google it is very foreigner friendly and serves really great food. You order via website on your phone. This was very helpful as they also had photos for many items of their menu.

I had the best experience here, loved the home styled cooking and cosy vibes. If you want to try a lot of Japanese food at once you should come here, it’s like tapas and you can order many dishes to try them out. It’s incredibly tasty and the staff and chef are so friendly to accommodate me with English menu and even a voice translator gadget 🤣 thank you so much, although I’ve had some Michelin restaurants bookings this time in Kyoto, this was no doubt 100% the highlight of my trip. And the price very very reasonable 👌🏼👍🏼✨ Iris

Authentic experience. The tomato, the tamago egg roll and tempura corn were particularly amazing. It was easy to make a reservation via google maps. Ordering at the restaurant was also easy with QR code and online menu in English with pictures.

Had a fantastic meal at this restaurant. We felt so warm and welcome. There may have been a Language barrier but honestly it didn't even matter. They have an English menu as well. The kindness and delicious food was all that mattered plus the VIBE. My husband and I had a fantastic time here. The chefs are such a dynamic and fun pair, I think they deserve their own TV show! These guys are like star quality!! Shout out to Keijoro and Yuto!! They cook so well and we're incredibly charming!!

They have an English menu! Reasonable priced and there a quite few memorable dishes. I particularly liked the duck slices and liver cold dish. Also would recommend the local yogurt sake - def something new and interesting. The waitress was lovely and attentive. Overall a very satisfactory experience.

We had an early dinner that we consider one of our best we ever had in an izakaya. Every dish was so tasty, we considered ordering more. Don’t miss the baked onion with beef and miso sauce. Online menu (also in English) and great help from the staff; A real gem in Kyoto!

I've never tried Obanzai Ryori and I'm glad I did. Went with my parents and we really enjoyed the traditional home style cooking of Kyoto. The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English. They even had menus in English. The manageress was truly nice and helpful. The 3 of us had drinks and quite a lot of food and it came up to 11,000 jpy. Love this place. I highly recommend it.

Scan the QR and start ordering to see the chefs do their magic. Make sure to ask for a bar seat for a front row seat. Very intimate environment. Friendly staff. Delicious food. Make sure to come for dinner one day!

Revervations recommended. My first exposure to Kyoto home-cooking. Fresh, comforting, tasty dishes. Serving size not too big, so can try out more dishes. Though most of the staff don't speak English, they have an English menu, and make an effort to understand and communicate. I'd recommend you to give it a try.

Walked in here randomly, surprisingly good foods, good drinks and most importantly the team was so beautiful and warm. Ordered with Japanese menu and staff realized I don’t understand it so well and brought me English one. The raw egg beef was so good with sake, grilled fish and deep fried fish both nice with beer, and the assorted vegetables goes so well with sparkling sake.

Such a wonderful lovely place!!! The cook was amazing! We went there without reservation at 7pm and fortunately got a table. What a lovely food experience. We had a 9 course menu which Was simply delicious!! Staff is amazingly friendly! We will come again for sure if we visit kyoto again! And now the Chef knows that in austria there are no cangoroos ;)

Food was really good! Loved the dishes I ordered, including the omelette in dashi with yuba!! They were very tasty and the staffs were friendly! It’s easy to order using English via line app too.

Ate there on a trip with my girlfriend. The chef was very attentive and welcoming. They made a tailored menu consisting of smaler dishes; all tasting beautifully.

They were able to accommodate us without a reservation but we would recommend others to make a reservation ahead of time as they seemed to fill up quickly. We both ordered the Omakase which is the chef’s special and included 10 different dishes. The food was great, the atmosphere was great and the chefs were great.

The highlight of our Kyoto visit. So good that we came back again before we left. Everything tastes fresh and nutritious and after ordering 10+ dishes across our two visits, I can say everything they offer was incredible. Highlights: obanzai, sashimi plate, beef tendon with radish, mackerel

Amazing food. Friendly and helpful staff. They have English menus and do accept credit cards. Only downside (as with most Japanese restaurants) is smoking allowed inside.

Delicious Kyoto homely dishes. Counter seats good for lone travellers. It is fine dining, so I can't complain about the small portions :) Especially enjoyed the Spanish mackerel marinated with miso. The fish was very fresh and tender, the seasoning was just right. Best served with rice :)

Great place to have a first Obanzai experience in Kyoto. Chefs are friendly and chatty, translating the food dishes for us. A place fill with laughters and energy. 💛💛The Obanzai snacks are delicious and authentic. 💙💙💙Pork Yukke must try! Pork was fried so tender but with a charr flavor- goes perfectly with the raw egg. ❤️ sea bream miso sashimi.

A cozy restaurant where you can try Kyoto’s ‘home-cooking’. The dishes are presented beautifully and they tasted great. The cold-tomato entrée dish is fantastic. Open till late and the price is reasonable.

Came here for dinner around 8pm on a Tuesday night and wasn't too busy and by the time we left around 8:50pm the place was empty. The service was very good and super friendly what was a little bit of a let down was the volume of food for what you pay. Most dishes we ordered were ok... Nothing bad nor amazing. Overall it's OK but wasn't something I would return to.

We had such a great time here, we came back a second time two days later. Both chefs are amazing and a lot of fun to observe. The food is simply awesome and so is their sake collection. Go eat here! (make sure to get a seat at the counter)

Honest to goodness home-cooked Kyoto style dishes that were delicious. From the grilled mackerel that was still moist and properly charred, to the cooked tomato that was sweet, plump and chilled, all dishes were a delight. Special applause to the whole onion drowned in a spicy mince meat sauce, we could have eaten there for the rest of our stay in Kyoto had we discovered this place sooner. All delivered with good cheer and from a happy and relaxed team! Would recommend.
