When I came and saw it, I was a little surprised to see that it was quite a gorgeous waterfall, unlike the delicate image I had from photos. When you come to the bridge that crosses to "Shomyo Takimidai Enchi", you will get very wet from the spray! As expected, the drop is so great that it is difficult to capture it in a photo. The lens will also get wet, so you have to be quick when deciding on camera settings and composition. It's quite difficult. I wanted to see it from above, so I climbed up a steep promenade, but it was worth it as I was able to feel the atmosphere of being swallowed up by the basin of the waterfall. Although we were blessed with autumn leaves and clear skies, the sunlight did not reach the waterfall itself. It is a waterfall located in a valley cut into it. The path to ``Shomyo Takimidai Enchi'' is well-paved and easy to walk, but the wet areas are slippery. We recommend that you walk with non-slip feet. Also, cars can only go as far as the rest house. From there you will have to walk uphill for about 15-20 minutes. The tourist parking lot at Shomadaira is also very narrow, just like the old days. Even if you have a regular car, you need to be a little careful when parking.

The largest elevation difference in all the waterfalls of Japan. At the base of Mt. Tateyama, the falls are a good 20 minute walk from the parking lot which is also the farthest you can drive with a private vehicle. Pretty good but we went on a rainy day and the views might be the best in clear autumn skies of October. There are also advanced level trails for trekking up to Mt. Dainichi and further to Mt. Tateyama and other mountains of Northern alps of Japan.

Beautiful place to appreciate the nature. The way the air is filled with water particles as you get closer to the waterfall is mesmerizing. On weekdays there aren’t usually that many people going there, but I’ve heard on weekends and holidays it gets a little bit crowded. Something to keep in mind when going there: the parking lot is about 1.5km down the hill from the waterfall, so you’ll have about 20 minutes of uphill walking until the observation deck.

It's a magnificent view. Although it was chilly, there were many people visiting.

As you go up the slope from the parking lot, you can catch a glimpse of the waterfall. It was a very windy day, so a mist of water was flying from there. The autumn leaves have finished, but I thought it would be a good time to visit again. You can't go down, so sneakers are fine, but you might want to wear a pair of jackets. I didn't meet a bear, but I did meet a family of monkeys.

The tallest waterfall in Japan is definitely worth seeing, and if you get there before 10am, you won't have any problems finding parking.

I watch it many times every year for work, but it's even more amazing on rainy days. I highly recommend you watch it, though you'll get wet.
