Probably no other store offers a wider range of retro game items more than Super Potato! 💖 Admittedly, not the easiest to spot since it has a pretty underwhelming entrance. You have to take a really dated looking elevator going up. I've been there twice in the course of 4 years and i was led to believe it was under renovation but it has not changed one bit! 😂 The store can be pretty overwhelming if you're not entirely sure what you're looking for. Despite the separate floors indicating which consoles/games can be found there, you're pretty much on your own. They offer even secondhand gaming consoles and a variety of accessories, chargers, memory cards and equipments you can't simply find just anywhere! 💖 It's definitely worth a visit despite how compact the place is. I highly recommend this place!

Great store really, awesome. I was able to purchase GBA, games for better prices from stores in NYC, as we all know are way over priced and even Amazon, which sell mostly repros. Was able to pick up, Metal Slug, for a nice price, better than Amazon, of course. They have three levels. I asked and they only sell second hand and no duty free. The fifth level is a small retro arcade setup and candies, fourth floor, your typical figurines and one the three floor the retro game items. GBA, some Atari, of course Super Famicon, PS1, PS2, PS3, but I ask no PS4. I wonder why. Most all the retro games are in Japanese only, so no RPGs for me since my Japan is for now rusty. Well, that's all my info, so play on, player!

Overrated. That’s unfortunately my view of this place. I know it’s a big thing among retro fans, and while they have tons of stuff, it’s clearly built as a tourist trap. Prepare to spend if you want stuff. Of course, if you are looking for something special, they are likely to have it. That’s the big draw. If you’re not however, there are better places in the area for used games. Fun little nugget - you’re unlikely to meet any locals here. I only saw (quite a few) westerners in the store.

The ultimate retro-gamer shop. The selection, history and overall presentation is what makes this multi-floor game store #1. Over the years I've added some of the most obscure games to my collection thanks to them! Also, their top floor doubles as a mini arcade!

Super Potato Akihabara, one of the iconic landmarks in Tokyo’s gaming scene, is a must-visit for anyone who considers themselves a gaming enthusiast. Here’s a glimpse of my personal experience: From the moment I stepped into Super Potato, I was transported to a nostalgic wonderland of gaming. The first thing that struck me was the extensive collection of vintage video games and consoles from decades past. It’s like a time machine for gamers, allowing you to relive your childhood or discover the classics you missed out on. The store is thoughtfully organized, and you can easily lose yourself exploring the treasure trove of cartridges, disks, and memorabilia. What truly sets Super Potato apart is their dedication to preserving the history of gaming. The condition of the vintage games and consoles is remarkable, often presented in pristine condition with original packaging. The store doesn’t just cater to collectors; it’s a place for everyone. Whether you want to buy a classic game or simply soak in the nostalgia, Super Potato is accommodating. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they’re more than happy to assist, whether you’re searching for a specific title or just browsing. While the prices can be on the higher side, it’s important to remember that you’re not just buying a game; you’re investing in a piece of gaming history. For collectors and enthusiasts, it’s a small price to pay for a chance to own a piece of the past. In conclusion, Super Potato Akihabara is a unique and exciting destination for gamers. It offers a glimpse into the history of video games and is an ideal place to start or expand your collection. It’s not just a store; it’s an experience that can rekindle the love for gaming in anyone, no matter their age or gaming background. A visit to Super Potato Akihabara is like stepping back in time and rediscovering the magic of classic video games.

Another wonderful shop full of retro game systems and cartridges of all types! Like a trip back in time. So much selection, so much fun! There was also a small arcade gaming zone on one of the higher floors with a corner selling vintage snacks and sweets of the past. Great fun for adults, and perhaps - for children - an insightful look into the past. Definitely worth a visit!

Legendary store (across the world)! Cool to pay them a visit and even play at their arcades on the last floor. As for buying, probably a bit more expensive (to the point I can assess either way) across stores in the area, but with a different focus really as a retro-emphasizing store.

Definitely worth a visit if you remember or are just interested in retro games. I’ve seen some pretty impressive stores like this in the US, but this one is still definitely worth a visit. There are piles and piles of old systems and neatly packed shelves full of Japanese flavor games from the 80s and 90s. The fifth floor retro arcade was pretty fun too, although some of the controls are definitely not working right anymore. One of the coolest items I saw for sale was replacement buttons for SNES controllers. I finally gave up my SNES a couple years ago because the buttons on the controllers had stopped working and I couldn’t find a replacement. But somehow Super Potato has them.

Great store. Lots to explore with Nintendo platforms and PlayStation. Not so much Gameboy. A little hard to navigate titles unless you speak Japanese. Retro arcade games upstairs well worth a play! (100yen a round)

Super Potato is a great store for everyone who loves old videogames and gaming consoles. You can find a big variety of products, also some souvenirs like card-games (eg 1100Yen) The store is located on the 3rd to 5th floor and each floor has its own theme (Nintendo - PlayStation,…) The only bad thing in in this store is the high pricing for consoles - there are Gameboys for around 50.000 Yen, which aren‘t at least original packed. You will find gameboys a lot cheaper in other stores in Akihabara. There is also NOT the possibility for TAXFREE shopping, which makes it even less attractive for shopping. Overall it is a really interesting and nice store, with high prices.

The place is cool but compared to some years ago, now there isnt so much in there The games you can find arent from the main sagas, but you can see secondary titles Prices are 2 or 3 times the normal prices in other shops Trap for tourists

Really fun and adorable retro arcade on the top floor. They even have retro snacks for purchase. You can get cupnoodles here and there is hot water available for you to cook it. There is no restroom though. The other floors consist of old generation video games consoles. It's really nostalgic to go through all the floors and see all your favorite video games from childhood.

Definitely recommend visiting this place if you're into retro games. It's nice to walk around the store and look at all the cool stuff they have there. But I was a little bit disappointed because they had none of the +10 Gameboy Games I was looking for and they only had like 3 or 4 Gameboy Consoles and they were way to expensive. The store in Osaka had a better selection of stuff when I was there. This store is obviously for tourists who don't know how much something is worth because you can get most of the stuff there cheaper at other stores.

I heard about this place a long time ago. Finally visited this time in Japan. There are a lot of retro games and machines here which is what they are famous for. Quite impressive collection, however I feel this place is more like a museum to me. It is quite stuffy and cramped in here. For hardcore retro game fans and collector is a must visit though

If you are into retro video games at all, chances are you know of Super Potato. Pros my the most infamous retro game store in Japan. The prices are high, and typically higher than even other stores in the area. But for the experience and to see so much incredible stuff in one tight space, it is more than worth it.

Good options if you like retro games & systems (Famicom, Game Boy, PlayStation etc). On the 5th floor you can play a few arcade games. @dromomaniagram

Super Potato is an intriguing retro gaming store featuring an extensive collection of nostalgic gaming items spread across three floors. With an arcade on the top level, it certainly offers a trip down memory lane to one's childhood days.

An amazing spot for all things retro gaming in the heart of Akihabara. Prices can be a little high for certain items, I was looking for a Nintendo DS but went elsewhere in the end as the one they had in stock was ¥40,000! There are plenty of bargains to be found if you've got the time to root around though. The old school arcade on the top floor offers a good selection of classics. I enjoyed a few games of Street Fighter II, and at ¥100 a pop that's money well spent. Great fun

This is a good place to find games but it has only the name to really draw crowds. The shop is small and prices are a little higher because of it being a tourist place to see. Sure it has several floors but its mostly just a walk by just to see it. Still its fun to see it but there are better places with nicer staff.

One of the most comprehensive collections of video games I've ever seen in my life. They have obscure titles from decades old systems at unbeatable prices. Each floor can easily take an hour to browse through while listening to game tracks in the background. The top floor has a nice arcade with a snack shop in the corner. The staff is also very informative and willing to give recommendations if you're not sure what you're looking for.

A must go if you enjoy video games from the NES - PS2 eras. Huge selection of games in good to immaculate condition. Game prices can be a bit higher than some of the smaller stores around Akihabara and online.

Fantastic retro gaming experience, also there is a nice little arcade and snack bar to chill at the top floor!

Nostalgia galore. This place is filled of games and technology from the 90s and it's amazing. The selection of games and "consoles" are plentiful; they even have setup so that you can test the consoles out with different games. The prices for the games are fairly prices, however, if you are looking to purchase a more rare and collectable item, be ready to pay the price. I wouldn't necessarily call it overpriced, since it is a rare item, but that's up for you to decides when you actually see the item. But 100 dollars for a gameboy??

Is the heavens for the retro games, they have all my childhood... But the price are high, if you need something cheap, this is no the place. Also you can play old video games in the last floor... Have some snacks to spend your time Here. If the prices are cheaper will be my favorite place in Akihabara

  • 5/5 Ross L. 3 years ago on Google
Amazing Arcade store and retro video game, both bought more than we expected! Great customer service and could be in the store for hours easily! All the way up the stairs multiple levels too. Recommend just walking up the stairs as the lift looked very small!

  • 4/5 Norimaki G. 1 year ago on Google
The place is a museum in itself: even if you don't buy anything, the visit is well worth it! The staff is unfriendly unfortunately, and most of the time will not be able to speak with you in any other language than Japanese. It is certainly alright in most locations when travelling, but a geeky place is always full of lore and secrets I would love to be able to comprehend. Or sometimes, I just want to know if a machine will work in my country.

I don’t know too much about gaming stores. But given the rating and what I found in this one, I must say it’s the place to go. Has a complete offer of N64, Super Nintendo and GameBoy consoles and games. Cheap as well.

👍👍 For the English reader there are only really 2 bookstores in Tokyo that you can rely on, one next to Tokyo station - this one, and the Kinokuniya in Shinjuku.
