It's one of those places that was on our itinerary for Hokkaido for a long while that we just didn't do yet. Despite staying in Asahikawa, we made the 3-4 hour trek round trip here in a single day and it was a cool place to check out! We went on a Monday and it was sort of crowded. We got there around 3 pm (1500). It was foggy and cloudy so we couldn't see Russia, but nonetheless we are happy we went. This time of year it also wasn't too cold. Just windy a bit. There is a couple shops with souvenirs nearby that were nice to check out also. It's one of those things that you would probably do once and not come back.

This was the first time we were able to go to the Northern capes in Hokkaido, and because it's the pandemic but are still allowed to travel, we decided to go and target outdoor activities. Soya Cape has plenty of memorials and has a very long history dating back to the 1900s, when the world was still very chaotic, so the memorials and statues in the cape represent the desire of the Japanese for world peace. At the top of the hill overlooking the ocean is a ramen shop, but there were a lot of people so we didn't dare eat inside. But it looked like it was popular.

Apart from the fact that you are standing on the northern most part of Hokkaido/Japan there is absolutely nothing stunning here. Thousands of much more stunning and amazing places to visit once you are on Hokkaido island. We just stopped here to take some pictures and went away a little frustrated to explore more of fascinating Hokkaido.

I wore a 550 filled down and was not warm. The wind chill makes this place a lot colder than it is. On a clear day you can see Russia! The wakkanai bus day pass can be used to get to this location. Unfortunately the bus isn't very frequent do be mindful. The bathrooms work ( flushing kind/ western) but the water from the sink is cold. There is no hand dryer as well.

Very fascinating and interesting place. We couldn't see Russia because of the weather, but I really enjoyed it. The drive along the coast is beautiful. I recommend visiting, but not during a blizzard!

Important notice!! The buses run very infrequently, if you are coming from outside Wakkanai you will very likely only have an hour to enjoy Cape Soya before the last bus comes. Check the bus timetable and plan accordingly! I was very fortunate that the weather was nice, I got to see Sakhalin from both Cape Soya and Wakkanai proper. Although it's quite busy, there are a number of monuments to take photos next to. There are gift shops and small resturants, vending machines and toilets for your convenience.

The most north point of Japan. Clean, quiet and so memorable! Driving here along which is a kind of joyfulness! Enjoy the snow, blue sky, blue ocean. Remember to grab a hundred Yen to get a certification of arrival of northest point. Huge parking space near by!

One of the places you need to visit when you are in Hokkaido. Japan's northern most point. The weather was perfect when we visited, with cold wind blowing. We could see Sakhalin island (Russia), 40km away. There is a souvenir shop close by and 2 food restaurants on the other side of the road. Have lunch at the restaurant that serves Ramen, it was very good! Other than the landmark, there is nothing else. Coming by your own transport would be more convenient as public transport is infrequent.

Absolutely stunning, few visitors and an affecting view to Sakhalin. A must-see spot for a trip up north.

稚内市 宗谷岬 Cape Soya is the northernmost point of Japan, touring the area would be easier if you self-drive. During our first visit we decided to take a Soya bus tour from the Wakkanai station. What a lovely trip!

One of my most epic destination, many people have visited Japan however not everyone can say they came to the furthest north tip of it. Cape Soya has a wonderful lookout point by the beach and with a clear day, Russia could be seen on the opposite. Free parking is available too Follow rubberducktravels on Instagram for more travel pictures!

The northernmost point of Japan. A simple monument marks the location. Lots of parking. There is a small statuary and monument park on top of the hill opposite the Cape. Next to the lighthouse.

I always wanted to go to Cape Soya as it is the most northern part of Japan and to see Russia. Unfortunately, the day I visited Cape Soya, there was gale winds and it was cloudy. I was able to stay at Cape Soya for only a few minutes as the gale winds were strong. Strong enough that you had to force yourself to walk. But, determined as I was, I did take a few pictures of this historic site.

Good place to visit but not much to see around the area. Not much restaurants as well. View from the top of the hill just before the marker was great. Would recommend to visit probably just once in your lifetime.

The northernmost place in Japan. Very beautiful view but be aware of the strong wind. Some say you can see Russia (Sakhalin) from here but I didn’t. Perhaps the sky is not clean enough today. I did a round trip from Sapporo within one day. Its doable but I do not recommend since you have to travel 12hours on train + bus combined just for the 40 min stay at Cape Sōya.

Arrived Wakkanai at late evening on 2023-02-08 (nothing to see due to poor storm driving condition). On 2023-02-09 morning, able to see the veiw about northeast point at JAPAN. No regrets to stay inside the car for overnight even at -ve 10 deg celius outside Many small fishing ports around the area. Wonderful scenery and special feeling when listening to "Loius Armstrong - we have all the time in the world" and driving along the coastal highway.

Lovely photo spot, but it's extremely windy and chilly today (27 Apr). The last time I visited in early Dec, it was as windy but it was snowing so it is freezing cold.

Very cold, forgot to bring gloves. If you look closely in the water down the stairs you can see little crabs moving around :).

Japan bucket list item. Layer up! It can get pretty cold and windy over here. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate, and Sakhalin Island was hidden by a dense marine layer. It was still a great experience just being there.

When the weather is good, you can see Sahalin by your telescope. Highly recommend.

The northernmost point of Japan. Absolutely gorgeous. It's like going to the end of the world. best thing I have done on my honeymoon. We can see the Russian islands from here and the Ruban island too. Some monuments to see around. A walk to the lighthouse would be great. Fresh air and infinite peace. Just amazing.

Almost surreal. Stunning views, free parking, and wasn't crowded.

The view was beautiful, albeit very windy! Although it was July, I was chilly! There is a public restroom at this location, and what appear to be souvenir shops and restaurants nearby. The monument it pretty cool, looks like it lights up at night. We went to the park just up the hill to see some additional monuments as well.
