1 of the top 5 highlights in Kyoto, and beautiful year round, this bamboo forest is easily one of the best sights in all of Japan. The Arashiyama area is surrounded by Buddhist and Shinto shrines as well as wonderful traditional Japanese neighborhoods with shops and vendors to sell foods and souvenirs. TIP: Take the JR line from Kyoto Station, and be prepared to spend a whole day in the beautiful outskirts of Kyoto. WINTER RECOMMENDATION: If you are in Japan in December, make a visit to this location. 10-19 December (from 1700-2030 hrs) the lantern festival illuminates this forest into a magical/otherworldly environment to feast your eyes (and Instagram 😅) upon. You might also get to witness snowfall coat the bamboo forest in yet more beauty.

The vibe here in red leaves 🍁 autumn was phenomenal. Breathe taking. I would recommended November. Nice view&weather. River walk and the activities about the river was a must. From the classic romantic train 🚂 go up and boat 🛶 down the stream. Wow 🤩 Unforgettable.

This place is enchantingly beautiful. Seeing the greenery, the autumn leaves, and the water filled my heart with joy. Highly recommended for anyone who visits Kyoto. It is not that far from the city area and it is totally worth it.

🌳📿🆓 Great visit if you are in Kyoto and want to see several of the most iconic spots in Japan. It features the bridge, the bamboo grove and the bamboo kimono forest, which are all photo worthy but beware, crowds populate the streets like hords of zombies in walking dead. ✅ Great place at the outskirts of Kyoto. Residential place where you can find some peace and quiet if you go off the beaten path 🌳 Beautiful scenery to give your eyes a treat 🆓💴 Aforementioned attractions are for FREE ⚠️ If you really want to enjoy I strongly recommend going early, your bamboo grove pic memento will be way more amazing

Once Japan’s capital and cultural center, Kyoto has shaped Japanese architecture, landscaping, city planning, and more for centuries - and since 1994, 17 sites embodying its influence have together been certified a World Heritage Site. Found in Kyoto City, Uji City, and Otsu City, Shiga Pref., the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto include To-ji Temple, Kinkaku-ji, Nijo-jo Castle and Kamigamo Jinja. Witness the timeless beauty of these buildings, each protected as symbols of Japan.

Beautiful place, a bamboo forest. It is a tourist attraction at Kyoto. Quite far from the place I stayed. We needed to take a train and a bit walk to reach here. It is very huge place. I didn't manage to explore all the places due to bringing kid with stroller and parent with wheelchair. Will come again next time to explore deeper into the forest.

Yes it's busy and a bit out of the way, but if your in Kyoto it's a must see! It was ridiculously hot in the city but a bit cooler and more laid back out here. We almost didn't go but am glad we took the time out. The highlight is probably the monkeys at the top of the park or the bamboo, but forget trying to get a picture with the bamboo unless your there at some obscure time (crowds). That being said it's well worth seeing even with crowds. The little village is really cool to walk around too. Would suggest at least 4 hours here but you could easily spend a full day.

Wonderful place to visit. We were able to go as part of a tour group and we walked through the shops, the kimono forest and the bamboo forest. Honestly the walk along the River front might have been my favorite part. It can be crowded but with patience it’s manageable.

Thought this is a must go place if you’re here in Kyoto! There are a couple of places within this area that you should visit - Bamboo forest, Canoe at a lake, horse rice and rice field. Recommend to take the red railway train till the end (approximate 20mins) where you’ll arrive at the horse riding place. (Typically people stop at the second stop to go to the bamboo place). From the horse riding place, you can get a boat back down to the bamboo place and enjoy the scenery along the way. Lastly, do drop by the lake and canoe at a lake downstream.

A must visit if you are touring Kyoto. Easy access by rail or bus. Beautiful scenery starts at the river before you get to the Main Street. Lots of Temples and trails nearby. Too much food to comprehend.

Beautiful area with much more to offer than just the bamboo forest alone. Unless you're here really early in the morning, be prepared that it's almost impossible to get a photo without having many other visitors in your shot. Good to spend about 2 hours slowly exploring the area and going on a hike in the surroundings. No trouble finding food or souvenirs in the shops before you head off to your next destination!

Nice place to visit with different types of locations. T\You can do a river boat tour to get there where boat food service meets you near the end. The bamboo grove can be nice but be aware of the timeframe because there will be a lot of people so hard to get pictures. If you're a photographer better to go earlier in the day. There's a nice temple you can go through nd also the monkey park which is a decent hike. Lots of food and places to see so definitely check out Arashiyama.

Located at the foot of the “Storm Mountains” in the north of the city of Kyoto, this world-famous, seemingly endless forest of swaying bamboo boughs is perfect for a relaxing retreat to nature during a stay in Japan. The Arashiyama bamboo grove is open 24/7 and admission is free. The surrounding Arashiyama district, known for unique fishing methods which involve using trained cormorant birds, is also well worth a visit. Its main street and Togetsu-kyo Bridge have been called a “tourist circus,” but beyond this thoroughfare, Arashiyama offers an authentic and unforgettable Japanese experience. Read on to discover how the bamboo forest is just the beginning. This sightseeing district makes for an incredible day trip from Kyoto. From lush forests to cherry blossoms to vibrant autumn koyo colors, Arashiyama is a visual delight.

Nature lovers, history fans, and wanderers go to Arashiyama, a peaceful area on Kyoto's western edge. This charming region, surrounded by beautiful woods and the tranquil Hozu River, provides a break from city life. I just visited Arashiyama, which changed my spirit. You first see the Togetsukyo Bridge across the Hozu River as you arrive at Arashiyama. This medieval bridge is stunning during cherry blossom season, with pink flowers against the green bamboo gardens and mountains. A leisurely walk over this bridge is like entering a picture. Arashiyama's bamboo groves are famous, therefore visit the bamboo forest. Bamboo stems form a cathedral, and their rustling leaves make a peaceful melody. This spot inspires reflection and great photos. The atmosphere of the Sagano Bamboo Forest will amaze you. History buffs should visit Tenryu-ji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The well-kept Zen gardens and peaceful ponds of this temple evoke tranquility. Walking around the temple grounds and seeing the Dragon Pond Garden will take you back in time. You may also take a traditional rickshaw ride through Arashiyama's charming lanes and bamboo gardens with pleasant and knowledgable pullers. It's a fun way to explore this district's history and charm. The Arashiyama or Iwatayama Monkey Park delights animal enthusiasts. Enjoy hilltop views of Kyoto and mingle with Japanese macaques in a semi-wild habitat. This wonderful experience connects you to nature. Finally, take a leisurely Hozu River boat trip. Arashiyama's beauty is shown differently by the tranquil waterways, abundant flora, and sheer cliffs. Seasonal vistas await you as you float down the river. Finally, Arashiyama's charm encapsulates Kyoto's natural beauty and historical importance. You may relax in bamboo woods, admire Japanese gardens, and connect with nature. The dreamlike experience of Arashiyama will stay with you long after you leave. Arashiyama is a lovely place for nature lovers, cultural lovers, and those seeking a calm escape

A great place to visit, filled with many beautiful old temples, serene lakes, gentle flowing rivers and multiple colored trees. Beautiful landscape and atmosphere - to relax and to enjoy. Lots of walking needed but in the very refreshing environment! A photographer's haven, with arresting landscape and portrait shots expected.

Nice sightseeing. But only a short stop by. Quite packed. Even on the weekday. Planning to visit the temple but it was close. Recommend to check the weather before visit for your best experience. Because take quite a lot of time to reach here. (Coming by bus) However, it was easy to access food and nice museum.

(Translated by Google) A young couple I met for the first time around Togetsubashi asked me to take a shutter, and when I received the camera, my boyfriend put a picture of his father in a small frame from his bag on his chest, so I took a picture. He is planning to get married next month, and his father died of cancer last month. My dad loved Kyoto, and when he got rid of his cancer, he cried, saying he wanted to go sightseeing in Kyoto with him. When my father was alive, he said he wanted to do more filial piety, so even if my parents die, I can do filial piety. If you say that, will you make a fine grave? I received a reply. It may be filial piety, but it is filial piety that you get married and live a happy life. When I said that, they were in tears. It was Arashiyama where I had such an encounter. However, the impression of Arashiyama, who became an adult for the first time in more than 20 years since then, was completely opposite to the impression I had when I was a student at that time, and the bamboo grove and all the scenery were really wonderful! We thought this place was a little hyped up. It was so crowded with people taking photos that it was hard to enjoy the forest. It's just like a short trail filled with bamboo, and there's just masses of people trying to get photos near them. It's not really very peaceful. Would recommend looking into smaller bamboo tree forests in the area to truly enjoy. Note: Visited prior to Covid, so things may be different.

This is a top place to visit. So much exciting things to do here. The bamboo forest is a main attraction. It will take around 30 mins to walk through the bamboo forest. And then there is a temple too. The boat ride along the river is highly recommend. For a 3 person boat, it cost 1500 Jpy per hour. If you are hiring a big boat, it wil cost around 5000. The vibe here is very exciting

Be prepared as it’s quite crowded. Honestly thought that this place is overrated as the bamboo forest was average. It does provide us with lots of shade but there wasn’t much to do at the bamboo forest. The path to the forest had lots of tourist shops that sells trinkets so you can take a look if you are interested.

(Translated by Google) The area around Togetsu Bridge is a crowd, a crowd, and a crowd of tourists that are just right to call Kyoto. It's nice to go around the temple quietly while thinking about the history of the ancient city, but it's also fun to visit various shops in Arashiyama while feeling the energy of people from all over the world. Isn't it one of them? Kyoto is the place where the old and the new are constantly chaotic. One my favorite in Kyoto. I feel so relax despite plenty of tourist. Walking along the bamboo paths feels so alive. But please obey the rules " Do not touch the Bamboo " The attractions are close to each other so you will not get tired that much. There is also a rickshaw tour. Experience the traditional ride of Japan.

(Translated by Google) It is thought that most of Arashiyama visits the bamboo forest. However, Arashiyama has so many things to see besides the bamboo forest, so we recommend taking a leisurely time and exploring slowly. Arashiyama's features 1. The vast bamboo forest that the most visitors come to see. 2. A large river before entering the bamboo forest. 3. Various attractions in the bamboo forest. There is a degree. However, if you just walk aside from the bamboo forest, there is a residential area where locals live. If you go there, no tourists will disappear, and you will see a friendly Japanese detached house that you have only seen in cartoons and photos. Visiting this place is free for tourists, but it would be nice to be considerate of the local residents when sightseeing.

Kyoto, once the capital of Japan, is a city on the island of Honshu. It's famous for its numerous classical Buddhist temples, as well as gardens, imperial palaces, Shinto shrines and traditional wooden houses. It’s also known for formal traditions such as kaiseki dining, consisting of multiple courses of precise dishes, and geisha, female entertainers often found in the Gion district.

In Japan's Sagano Bamboo Forest, on the outskirts of Kyoto, towering green stalks of the famously versatile plant sway in the wind, creaking eerily they collide and twist, leaves rustling. The sun filters through the densely packed grove, projecting thin slashes of light onto the dozens of camera-clutching tourists shuffling down the wide trail that cuts through the middle of the forest as they awkwardly angle their shots, attempting to crop human forms out of their frames. Long gone are the days when you'd get this place to yourself when visiting Japan. If you've ever clicked on a rundown of "places to see before you die" or a list of the most beautiful forests in the world, chances are you've seen a photo of Sagano. Located in the gorgeous Arashiyama district of western Kyoto, the Sagano Bamboo Forest's popularity has expanded in recent years, coinciding with the rise in overall tourism arrivals in Japan. Though it's the beauty of the bamboo that brings in the masses, those distinct rustling sounds have become an attraction in their own right. A few years ago, the Ministry of Environment included the Sagano Bamboo Forest on its list of "100 Soundscapes of Japan" -- a selection of everyday noises intended to encourage locals to stop and enjoy nature's music. For the best experience, head out early in the morning or late evening and avoid weekends completely, when Japanese day-trippers descend on the area -- especially in the fall and spring. (There's no admission fee and it's open 24/7.)

Small town outside of Kyoto and home to the famous bamboo forest and some beautiful temples. The train ride here is also nice experience in itself, the vintage trains makes its way through houses and small neighbourhoods. There are many cute shops and restaurants around Arashiyama and there is also a trek up a mountain to a monkey park nearby.

Arashiyama is the perfect place to come visit in the fall when the leaves are changing colors. It's also popular among young people who come here to take quality photos of themselves and their loved ones. There's a lot to take in, more than just the turning leaves. There's the river, the boat rides, the monkeys (which I would avoid as the staff are abusive to them), and along the way, you'll find restaurants and little places that sell beer, which is quite refreshing after a day out in the country. Bring a good pair of shoes and a quality camera.

Really nice town, cute, quaint, excellent array of Wagyu etc. I travelled with the family in the April school holidays, my tips for you- 1. Go Early! Ie get there at 8am before the crowds. 2. Get back to the town centre approx 10:30am if you want to secure a good restaurant for lunch, most open at 11:00am and you will probably need to queue. There is plenty to choose from and the food and souvenirs are amazing. Bamboo Forrest - it’s a really nice, beautifully manicured trail. Considering the amount of tourists they really do look after it!

(Translated by Google) I went to the New Year in 2021 and it was unusually warm and the hoodie was enough. There are many people who take a walk on the Togetsukyo Bridge over the Katsura River, but the relaxing time passes and the scenery is soothing. People and rickshaws who come in kimono and Maiko costumes come and go on the street where souvenir shops and various restaurants are lined up. It is standard to walk to Sagano, which is famous for its bamboo grove, while eating mitarashi dumplings. You can enjoy the small diameter of the bamboo grove, which is famous for the CM of "Let's go to Kyoto", just by walking. One restaurant there offer set of japanese meal that is safe/ halal for Muslim (I forget the name, but you can googling). The taste was very delicious. I can recommend to both Muslim and non Muslim. (Translated by Google) It was my first day trip to Kyoto with him after my first visit. Next, he brought me to Arashiyama. The scenery will be beautiful during the fall foliage season, but the negative ions from the river and the clean air of the mountains are enough! It's easy to forget that if you get used to the scenery where you can see the increasing number of fashionable things that are usually brilliantly decorated, you can just feel at ease in a spacious and comfortable atmosphere. Kyoto, which I visit as I get older, is really good. The Togetsu Bridge was also uncrowded, and I was able to stop slowly and enjoy the sound and scenery of the river. We were lucky because there were few people even at this time of January due to the corona storm, and every road was open, but I also run a restaurant, so I think that I work at these tourist spots. I think it's really hard for everyone to have anxiety. We will also be back in Kyoto, where it has returned to life, so please do your best.

Superb bamboo forest, it's not very big, but it remains a spectacle. If you want to visit it in peace and take beautiful photos, without too many tourists you will have to get up early, as already in the early hours of the morning it is a very popular destination for tourists, Japanese and not.

Despite the rain It was too full. Each store is full of people The Togetsu Bridge is a little crowded with tourist buses and people! I tried a kimono kid here and there. Is it rented? A coffee shop near the Arashiyama station where I spent It was opened with two middle-aged employees. Sandwich 🥪 Lots of vegetables I never ate A cup of Kyoto vegetables! It was very delicious. I waited a long time to do that. It is also a sandwich that you will want to eat. Coffee ☕️ is also good I don't know the name of the store.

There are so many things to do here! So far, I have visited the Bamboo Forest, Kimono Forest, Monkey Park, Togetsu-kyo Bridge, Oigawa River, Arabica Coffee, and main shopping street. Sometimes I walk here and then take the randen back east. 🚂

(Translated by Google) Although the number of people at Togetsukyo Bridge was small due to the corona disaster, the route from Torokko Arashiyama to Kameyama was full. From the observatory in the Hozu Valley The view was great. The autumn colors of Arashiyama, the flow of the Katsura River, and the collaboration with the river boat were the best. The special exhibition of the garden of Hogon-in Temple at the top of Tenryuji Temple was also wonderful.
