Kinosaki Onsen is a beautiful town with multiple hot springs to visit, along with beautiful scenery. If you stay at a local ryokan, you can wear yukata around town and enter all the hot springs for free with a pass from the ryokan. I recommend trying Tajima beef for dinner too! Its produced from the same cattle as Kobe beef. I personally enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Kinosaki Onsen much over more crowded places like Arima Onsen. If you have the ability to come up and visit, you should! The most direct access if of course by car, but you can come by public transportation. The latter just takes a little longer. Especially beautiful during cherry blossom season!

Included a 1 day trip plan. a small village that is worth half a day visit to explore around Kansai area. However, Thursday might not be a good day to go! Osaka -> Kinosakionsen Take the JR from Osaka Station. Better to get reserve seats and buy from the counter. The vending machine can be confusing. The trip is really Long. It’s almost 3.5 hours one way so packed food before entering the station! One Day Trip itinerary: 1. Took the 8:14am train and arrived slightly pass 11am; 2. Immediately lunch at one of the seafood store (2nd floor) for the Kani (it’s the season for snow crab: 30mins; 3. Walked to the furthest onsen Kounoyu Onsen (#7) and start my onsen hopping! 30 mins. 4. Cross across to the Yakushidou Temple for some photos: 20mins 4. Unfortunately, Goshonoyu is closed...sigh...so hop to Tokiwa Garden for coffee and snacks: 30 mins; 5. Across road for some buns with Tajima beef: 10mins; 6. Go to this nostalgic coffee place near the station for a Columbia coffee: 20mins; 7. Off to Satonoyu Onsen for final bath (2/7 closed and gets a bit tired of bathing): 30 mins; 8. Change tickets to 3:30pm train ride back Osaka; 9. Arrive 6:30+ pm. *you can change your ticket timing once for free!

城崎温泉 Kinosaki onsen is about 2.5 hours by train from Kyoto. It is a lovely small onsen town. We stayed only one night , but had the opportunity to experience the old Japan tradition, walking around the town wearing Yukata and getas, visiting a number of public baths, and sampling the famous crabs which were in season during our visit. I recommend at least one night stay,  the place comes to live in the evening,  many would venture out from their ryokan wearing Yukatas and getas, this is a truly Japan experience you do not want to miss.

One of the best onsen i have visited in Japan. A small traditional onsen town with a lot of charactots. It locate near the sea and famouse for Mustuba crab whicis far tastier than king crab in my opionion. Or if seafood is not your thing, you can try the famous local Tajima beef. There are 7 public onsen you can use with the onsen pass or if you stay in Ryokans in town, the onsen pass is included. You can take onsen until late at night and most of them also open early in the morning. (Different bath has different opening and closing time so be sure to check. Just googling) Many small souvenirs shop and cafe in town. Be sure to try custard pudding and korokke on the main road.

A beautiful spa resort town, the perfect place the experience local ryokan and traditional onsen, and a scenic train ride from Kyoto by train. Your accommodation typically includes a pass to the local onsen, together with a traditional robe and footwear to explore the town in. The onsen of the town are closed on rotating days, so allow more than 1 day to visit them all. The food choices are a bit limited, but still do the job. It also includes a funicular/cable car to the local mountain top for nice views of the surrounding countryside. The walk/hike back down is recommended.

Beautiful. Came here during sakura season. Old world, charming feel. Wasn't crowded during the height of sakura season (Wednesday and Thursday). Restaurants were largely closed for dinner on the 30th March. Would come again.

One of Japan's best onsen towns! The willow-lined river view is breathtaking especially when snow piles up in winter. A definitely must-see-and-visit place for anyone seeking a genuine Japanese experience. Plus there are a lot of restaurants and cafes and shops around. And it's not just the hot spring you can visit there but you have plenty more to do in your itinerary.

Very picturesque onsen town especially at night. Folks were walking in yukata’s to enjoy the 7 public onsens. There are also very good sushi and sashimi restaurants in town.

Kinosaki is a small onsen town with 7 public onsens and lots of ryokans. There is only 1 main street where all the ryokans, public baths and shops are located. This is one of the few onsen towns in Japan where you can walk in the street wearing your Ryokan’s yukata. Probably the most charming thing about this town is that it has maintained alot of its old architecture with no tall buildings, giving you a small town feeling. It was very relaxing and cosy. It was also not crowded and there were actually few foreigner tourists. Most people we encountered were Japanese tourists. We would definitely visit again.

Very cute small onsen town which has 7 public baths to choose from. The scenery at night is magical. Lots of cafes, restaurants and shops in the daytime.

Its a great place to spend 3-4 days at. This seemingly small town with houses an enormous trove of historical memorabilia from the era when everyone was in kimonos and yutakas. Many antique tools, mining gear, documents and household items pay silent tribute to this time long ago. No sightseeing trip to kinosaki is complete unless you stop at every onsen to view the finer details of this era. The food is great, people are kind and warm and the nights are beautiful

Love this place… if you like hot springs (onsen). Is a must visit place. Plus they have season carb…which you must try… only in Winter

Absolutely stunning and charming town. Full of vibrant culture and history with a lot of shops and restaurants. Was able to visit 3 of the 7 Onsens which were all wonderful. The natural hot spring water was available in some way (drinking fountain, foot baths, onsens) everywhere. It was nice to get to visit shrines and cultural places without being amassed by groups as well.
