Amazing tour with Naoki-san exploring the local streets and beautiful hidden gems of Kyoto! The cafe drinks are amazing too! Don't think twice - book this tour!

An outstanding start to our trip. The coffee shop and bike store owner, Naoki (left in picture), personally gave us a tour of the city for our half day tour. Very relaxed, great English skills, and tailored to our family. We finished by getting some coffee, ice cream, and sandwiches in his coffee shop. Of note, he is the only bike rental store in Kyoto that has the pull behind trailer which is a bit safer than those traditionally used in Japan. As you can see from the kids that got their money worth. We enjoyed it so much that we rented the bikes and trailer later in our trip to enjoy the river walk some more! Lastly, we bought some well put together beanies that his wife personally stitched. Seeing the city from a bike and with a guide is definitely the recommended way to start your visit to this amazing city!

One of those place that added more meaning to your visit in Kyoto. This place has a unique magic in every little detail. The generosity in explaining every little question with passion. I went on a day tour with him, discovered peaceful hidden places that I wouldn’t find on my own. Great service, great coffee and a wonderful gentleman to talk to. Thank you for your kindness. Much recommended !

Just amazing. Absolute highlight of our trip to Kyoto. The bikes were perfect for the job (three hour afternoon ride). The sights were a great mix of the big famous ones and smaller unknown ones and it was a great way to get a feel for the city. Cafe is also amazing with awesome coffee and absolutely fantastic chocolate banana milkshake.... Fitness wise it's decent. My 60+ year old mum did it with me and was sore at the end of the day. She hasn't ridden a bike for a few years but did fine too.

We had a great day exploring Kyoto with shop owner Naoki! He was very easy to communicate and plan with prior to our visit to Japan. The ride was fun, informative, and relaxing. Was a nice bonus that he provided some great coffee during a stop along the river.

First, this is the best coffee I had in Japan, even if you don't want to hire a bike We were lucky enough to do the Breeze of Kyoto (morning) tour and it's honestly the best way to explore the Eastern side of Kyoto. Naoki was a great guide and very knowledgeable about the different areas, very easy to follow on a bike and knows all the good photo locations.

If you love any combination of coffee, bikes and a fireside chat then this is the place for you. Coffee is served in a unique mug and the seating is around the “fire-side” (gas stove and kettle). Very unique and cool vibe combined with great coffee Worth a visit!

A fantastic way to see Kyoto for the whole family - arriving at the bike shop in the early morning and having an excellent espresso, cycling thru Kyoto before the streets become busy, visiting many of the beautiful shrines and temples, enjoying the peace of the zen gardens, chatting with Naoki about local history and culture. Naoki even found time to bring us to the rugby shrine to pray for the all blacks.🤙🏾Thank you very much! 🙏🏽

Store owner was super nice, helpful and very responsive. He was very kind to provide us with riding instructions and routes around Kyoto with our young family. We also enjoyed some very very nice warm drinks at the beginning of our ride. Will definitely recommend for those with young family and kids. Went to Kyoto with another family. All up we had 4 adults and 4 young children. Was able to hire 4 bikes including child seats from here and had an amazing day getting around Kyoto.

Delightful bike tour of Kyoto! After 8 days in Japan I think this has been one of the main highlights of our trip. Naoki-san made us discover a whole different Kyoto. Get away of the busy crowded temples to enjoy beautiful Japanese zen gardens and temples, quiet neighborhood backstreets and enchanting parks. You won’t regret it! I would recommend this tour to every single friend visiting Kyoto. BTW Naoki-san has cargo bikes for younger kids, my two sons loved being carried all along! 5 out of 5 without hesitation!

My family and I had the most beautiful morning with Naoki doing the ‘Breeze of Kyoto’ ride. It was the absolute highlight of our Kyoto trip. Naoki took us to the best spots around the city without any crowds. I would highly reccomend Good Day Velo!

Had a perfect day riding around the Kamogawa with rented bikes from this shop. Owner was very friendly and spoke perfect English. Price for the day was very reasonable. An all around great experience.

renting a bike here was one of the highlights of my stay in kyoto! my feet were killing me and riding was such a joyful and efficient way to get around. for the most part, kyoto is very flat and is a delight to ride through, also easy to navigate due to the grid system. owner was very friendly and helpful in explaining locking the bike/where to park/adjusting seat height for me. just a note that one day hire is return same day by 6pm - not 24hrs! if you want to hire for 24hrs, it will be a 2 day charge. thank you!! highly recommend, loved my bike!

Fantastic Bike Rental, start or end your ride with a coffee made with Naoki. Reccomend me a quick 20k ish route, I enjoyed my 3 hrs on the bike with a quick stop for lunch. Highly recommend checking out in Kyoto!

Everything about this place is fantastic. The shop is cool, there’s great music, the coffee and beer are excellent. Naoki the owner is an incredible bike tour host: flexible, kind, knowledgeable, and fun. He was wonderful with our 5 year old daughter and speaks very fluent English. I would recommend taking his tours to anyone. It was the highlight of our 8 days in Kyoto, as we got to visit some incredible sites that we would have never thought to visit on our own.

Amazing place! I love the cozy atmosphere and the combination of bicycles and coffee😇 The whole brand, pictures and products are selfmade by the owner and his wife🤩 Best coffee in Kyoto for us🫠

Best coffee in Kyoto!✨ The owner is super friendly, he gives the best insider recommendations and prepares the best coffee! It’s a full ritual and a pleasure to watch and smell! Also, the illustrations and the whole image of the café are very nice and there are a lot of interesting books laying around! Perfect to relax for a while😍

We received amazing service here at this cute shop where you can get great coffee (hot or iced). The bikes were good quality. I would recommend this place to anyone! The owner took time to draw out a wonderful bike tour for us, and had great recommendations for hidden gem food spots and temples to visit. This is where you should go, 100%.

The morning bike tour with Naoki was the highlight of our Japan trip! As a family of 2 adults and 1 toddler, Naoki put together an awesome family-friendly itinerary that had lots of opportunities for our kiddo to play in water and cool down from the July heat. The tour started with a coffee which was honestly one of the best coffees I've had ever. Naoki had the bikes prepared and a helmet for our kiddo. He took us to a river, 2 temples, and the botanical garden. All of these places were peaceful and not crowded. He was an amazing guide - professional, friendly, flexible (especially appreciated when traveling a little kid!), interesting to talk to, and very knowledgeable about the area. I highly recommend this tour if you want to explore Kyoto by bike!

I first came here last December and again a few weeks ago. The best bicycle rental shop in Kyoto on so many levels. Good quality bicycles, excellent customer service from a very friendly owner, they also have coffee and cakes.

Best day in Kyoto! Naoki lead us around Kyoto on his beautiful serviced bikes. It was my seventh time in Kyoto but he took us off the beaten track, and saw the ‘Real Kyoto’. Naoki is passionate about his beautiful city. After we finished the tour, he drew a new route on the map and let us continue. It was my favourite day on our trip! I think about Naoki’s beautiful shop often. I wish him all the best and can’t wait to come back!

Really cute coffee shop and cycling rental shop. The bicycles are very well maintained and light in weight for easy riding around town. The owner speaks great English and is very knowledgeable and caring (even gave us a pants strap for making sure our pants don’t get caught in the bike chain!) and mapped out the perfect bike route for us to maximize our sightseeing.

Stumbled across this amazing place while walking from the hotel to the bus stop. Great coffee, super nice owner. I ended up doing a bike ride Sunday morning with him and it was the best time. Naoki the owner took me many popular local spots. I got to see a lot of Kyoto for an amazing price. Truly a great experience, highly recommend getting a bike and going for a ride through the city. Thank you Naoki!

What a find! Cute coffee shop and bike rental. I had no plans for my day in Kyoto and thought what better way to be a speed tourist than bike around! The shop owner was very welcoming and helpful. Asked where I wanted to go and what I'm interested in - basically coffee spots and some scenic Kyoto spots along the way. He mapped out a bike route for me to follow, researched coffee spots for me to make sure they were open (as I've learned, irregular business hours from shop to shop), noted down some trendy boutiques and must see spots. Rental was an easy process, cheap and honestly my best day in Kyoto! Loved it! Thanks for the recommendations Velo Bike & Coffee Shop! Oh and the coffee was top notch too 🙌

Amazing coffee!!! And I also rented a bike, cost a little bit more than my hotel's bike rental, but was well worth it. He also offers packed picnics, although I chose to wing it. The owner is very friendly and helpful. We had a great conversation about things to do in Kyoto and he gave a lot of good suggestions. His store is very comfortable and there are stools, a bar and a table to sit at. I also had some of the craft beer when I got back, also very good. He loves biking and it shows. He provided a great cruiser for me and biking was a perfect way to get around Kyoto.

Obscura single origin beans, Yamazaki whiskey, a perfectly fluent and smiling english speaking Japanese barista who loves vélos and showing the city he lives in, what do you get when you put these ingredients together? : the perfect morning (or afternoon) cup of coffee. Naoki (your friendly and smiling barista) is open for business every day, except Mondays, and take great care of his customers and his coffee. Definitely one of the best spots in Kyoto for a great brew. Two bigs thumbs up and highly recommended !

Nice lil shop right here! Great atmosphere, great coffee, and they have bikes! I only came for the coffee but stayed on the makeshift patio for fun. Fun rules! I had the espresso tonic drink. Get that. Do yourself the best favor and get that. It ruled and you should rule too.

Great to visit Kyoto again. The best way to explore Kyoto is to bike like a local. Highly recommend for the amazing service, reasonable rates and great bikes. Read the positive reviews about Good Day Velo and it didn’t disappoint. The owner was fluent in English and made the bike hire a breeze. Happy to support a local business like Velo 👍🏼

Can't recommend highly enough. The owner speaks great English and will draw a detailed bike route for you with recommendations on where to visit to avoid crowds and, in our case, see fall color. His itinerary made for a perfect day of biking and sightseeing in Kyoto. I'd go out of my way to rent here again

The owner is very sweet! We rented bikes and got coffee here, both were great! He gave us some suggestions on where to get good beer and pastries that were all excellent. We logged a lot of miles on the bikes and never felt that they were in trouble of breaking down, great rental bikes!

Amazing experience. Naoki, the owner , is a super cool and friendly guy who also speaks English very well. Hoop on a bike and explore the city with him. Plus the coffee there is amazing too. One of the best experiences Kyoto could offer.

Best coffee in a well-curated shop with bicycles and coffee (how can you argue against such combination?). You can tell the shop owner is passionate about making each drink for you. One of the great moments we had in Kyoto.

  • 5/5 Billy V. 1 year ago on Google
The bikes are really nice and in best shape. There are small ones (Brompton like) and normal sized bikes. Just drop in at the shop, have a tasteful coffee and chat with Naoki and then explore Kyoto on the bike.

Really helpful and friendly owner that even gave me some recommendations for my time in Kyoto. Rented a bike for a good price and got good coffee at the same time! Definitely recommend renting a bike for your time in Kyoto as it's a great way to get around in the city and visit as much as possible.

Simply put - the perfect way to explore Kyoto. A beautiful ride along the river, multiple stops at beautiful shrines and a guide, Naoki, who will answer all your questions about Kyoto and Japan. Recommend a tour and a drip coffee before you leave at Naoki’s shop.

Honestly a must-do when coming to Kyoto. Naomi showed us to every hidden gem in the city that only locals know about. We learned a lot about the culture and the history of the city and the different shrines and temples we visited. This was our favorite thing we did while in Kyoto. Would recommend to anyone and everyone.

Our bike tour with Naoki was the highlight of our trip to Kyoto. We wandered into his coffee shop for delicious coffee and ended up spending the day on his classic bicycles touring magnificent temples and quaint neighborhoods that you will not find in a guidebook. His unique insight, laid back attitude, and aversion to crowds was a breath of fresh air. We actually booked a second day of touring with him because we loved it so much.
