Found this place via google maps and were a bit hesistant because its touristy area and all the positive recommendations, but from the very beginning they were so welcoming and the food really is amazing! everything we ate was so tasty, would definetley recommend especially the dumplings in chicken broth! Also ordered a number of drinks and had lots of fun with their drinking game! All of a sudden, this place became one of our top to-go-places in Tokyo!

Unpretentious and wonderful Izakaya. One of the best places I ate at in my 9 days in Tokyo. Amazing quality of food and ambience. People were just hanging out and eating. Nothing unnecessarily fancy. Will definitely go back!

Some knew some English. Very nice workers. They made sure i knew there was a 300yen charge before i entered. Definitely was a good meal. Japan isn't big on spice so whenever I see it I always order it because I'm a huge spice person. Flavor for the spicy dumplings wasn't all there but it was perfect spice for me.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this incredible restaurant, and I must say, I was absolutely blown away by the amazing food and overall dining experience. From the moment I took my first bite, I knew I was in for a treat. The food at this restaurant is nothing short of immaculate. The flavors were truly remarkable. One dish that left me speechless was the fried dumplings. The crispy exterior combined with the perfectly seasoned filling created a burst of delightful flavors in every bite. And let me tell you about the 'Chinese spiced soup' gyoza—it was a unique and delicious twist that elevated the dish to a whole new level 🤤🤤🤤 To complement the exquisite flavors of the food, I opted for a 'freshly squeezed seasonal fruit sour' drink, and it was the perfect choice. The drink was incredibly refreshing, with a tangy sweetness that balanced the savory notes of the food beautifully. It truly enhanced my dining experience and left me feeling thoroughly satisfied!! Not only was the food exceptional, but the service provided by the restaurant staff was also top-notch 🥹🥹 The workers were extremely friendly and attentive, making us feel warmly welcomed from the moment we stepped in. Their knowledge of the menu and willingness to offer recommendations added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. If you find yourself unsure of where to eat, I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try. The combination of savory and flavorful food, coupled with the refreshing drink options, creates a truly amazing dining experience. You won't be disappointed!!

The soup gyoza were, hands down, the best dumplings I have ever had. Do yourself a favor: run, don’t walk, to this location and order some. All other dishes were excellent, including vegetables, noodles, and some Szechuan dumplings that were numbing in the proper mala fashion. There’s a good selection of drinks and a fun way to save a couple yen by serving yourself. I particularly recommend the ginger ale (and cocktails that incorporate it), which they make in house and positively bursts with fresh ginger flavor. Last but not least, our server was enthusiastic, polite, and personable. I don’t live nearby but hope to make visiting here a regular thing.

Gyopao specialises in it's namesake, which seems to be a fusion of gyoza and xiao long baos. The concept works and was delicious. Like xiao long bao, these dumplings also have soup inside them, although not as much as I am use to. However there was a pleasant umami hit. Interestly, these Gyopao are immersed in a nice gingery soup which was a nice accompaniment. A selling point that many customers seem to like is there are self serve highballs and sours on tap, to feed your inner bar tender. The only negative is the food is relatively pricey. Otherwise, there is a nice fun feel and the staff were super friendly. For those that need it, they have english menus!

Coming from NY we’ve had our fair share of soup dumplings. We thought we’d have a pleasant meal and be on to the next thing. What we experienced was so beyond what we were prepared for. Our waitress suggested their Paitan dumplings. We started with 4. We also got a bunch of other things. Everything was delicious. We ended up getting another 6 of those Paitan dumplings after we ate everything else because we couldn’t leave without having more. Do yourself a favor and give this place a shot. You can thank me later. Also the beer A1. Thank you Nami for a great experience 😁

Delicious! So happy we stumbled upon this place. The soup dumplings were so good we had to order more! The staff was very friendly. They had an English menu and helped us understand all the different food. Highly recommend going here.

The dumpling is a-must-try dish and another dish which is beyond our expectation is mapo toufu. It's very delicious and great taste compared to original mapo in China. The dumpling soup is very nice. It's not like xiao long bao but it's more like a Gyo texture so you can get new experience by trying this. I like these 2 dishes more than other two dishes we ordered. The service is nice. Staff are friendly :) they made sure we know the rule that you need to pay for cover charge 330 per person plus one drink per person.

Food and staff are both outstanding. Make sure you make a reservation we were lucky enough to get a walk in spot but it was extremely busy and only had about 20 seats. Dumplings spring rolls ramen and the beer were all outstanding! They were very accommodating of us and our 18 month old baby!

Great dumplings. This is a very small place. If you plan to visit you should make a reservation or expect to wait for a while. The service is very friendly

I hope we got them on a bad day but the food unfortunately didn't warrant the high ratings this place has. They have an english menu which is good, but the food itself didn't match up to most of the places we have tried while in Japan the past 2 weeks. Kind staff who tried their best, however, the wait time for food was disappointing.

Tasty dishes, the restaurant was clean and friendly staff. The location is perfect (close to Shinjuku station). The Gyopao (餃包), hybrid of boiled dumpling (水餃子) and soup dumpling (小籠包) was exquisite, must try. Fried dumplings was really crunchy and delicious. There’s also a few drink discount systems (my glass, self-service).

Food is very tasty, they even have spicy options! The staff are very friendly and they take time to explain everything to you, they can also speak English! The restaurant is a bit small so it’s better to make a reservation.

Such a pleasant time at this place. You might have to reserve or come at off hours. Luckily we came it right before dinner rush hours so we were seated immediately. Tried a variety of food and all taste delicious though there isn’t a dish that made me go crazy. I only have 2 concerns which is the cooking time especially when the place starts getting crowded and the price is a bit on the higher side. The service attitude is so warm and unforgettable. That alone makes me want to come back. They have a nice small discount system. Simple but very fun and shows memorable character. It’s what makes small restaurants like this great

Incredibly good food. Easily amongst the best I've had in Japan. The soup dumplings and chili wonton were so good. Incredibly friendly service too. Definitely come here!

Very kind service. They have a good selection of beverages, the servings are rather small for a high price. I recommend the soup gyoza, as the remaining options are not as good as expected. I was especially disappointed with the shrimp dim sum.

BEST DUMPLINGS! Don’t miss this restaurant the food is amazing and the staff are so lovely! I ordered spicy pan fried dumplings and INCREDIBLE shrimp spring rolls. The beer was good too I’ll be back! Thank you so much I had a fun time

An amazing culinary experience made even better by delicious cocktails and the best people. Each person who works here shows you care and appreciation while providing the best service I have ever had. We reserved ahead with an all you can drink special and it was more than worth it! The highballs are to die for and the dumplings ARE something to write home about. You will not regret your time at Gypao!

We were on the hunt for dumplings and looked into finding this place, though it was a bit confusing to find at first. I’m so glad we stuck it out because the food and drinks were amazing. A super easy ordering system through your phone, the waiter was amazing as he was so kind and helpful in explaining everything plus he gave us heaps of dipping sauces with extra plates to mix and match, my chilli oil fix was definitely met here❤️❤️

Place is hard to find. It’s in a corner intersection building and you have to climb to 3rd floor to find it! But it was super worth the hunt! Place is cute but tiny and can get packed easily but we were lucky to get a seat by the door way. People are 💯 friendly as well. We love their Gyopao and Shrimp Rolls. Would recommend!

The atmosphere, food and service were fantastic! In my short visit to Tokyo this was hands down my favorite restaurant. The vibe was fun. The bite size dumplings were perfect with a little lemon squeeze on top. And they have an all you can drink option.

Excellent giyoza restaurant in Shinjuku. I recommend the giyapao (boiled giyoza in soup). You can also make your own lemon sour, get your name on the wall on a tiny wooden block, and chat with the super friendly staff. Oh, and you get 110 yen off each drink if you keep the same glass!

The workers are so kind and the food is amazing! If you have time please come here! It’s best with small-ish groups. I went with 6 people and that was pushing it, but it only took 10 minutes to seat us and the staff was so nice! A definite recommend!

We're Americans staying in Shinjuku, and in looking for cool places to eat we found this place based on excellent Google reviews. The reviews were right!!! As soon as we arrived, the staff was friendly, funny, and very accommodating to our limited Japanese. We ordered the fried gyoza and plain soup dumplings, and everything was SOOO GOOD! The staff showed us how to eat the soup dumplings and by the end of our meal we were scraping the pot for every last drop of soup. Delicious and fun meal, definitely a highlight of the trip so far, can't recommend it enough!

Certainly a brilliant place to dine at with really fantastic food and fun self service nomihodai. Staff were also very genki. I feel it is more on the expensive side for izakayas however so be sure to pad your wallet out before you arrive. The store is quite small so a booking is recommended!
