The streets are full of souvenir shops and small food stalls (mostly oysters) so you can wander, shop and snack at the same time. The best find if the fried momoji. The momoji is a filled biscuit which each shop makes themselves. The biscuit is then fried to crispy perfection. Delicious snack on the go. Most of the shops closed around 1700 when I was there.

This town is not so busy, it retains so much of its heritage and beauty as a village-style town and excels in the local products that it creates. There are so many different seafood delicacies, varied souvenirs and heirlooms to purchase, as well as some scrumptious sweets.

Awesome little shopping town to visit while sightseeing! A lot of little shops and a TON of food and desserts to eat while exploring. It's worth the walk go go a little further and take the rope way to the top of the mountain.

To come to this island one has to take a ferry from Miyajimaguchi. Very scenic. You can find harmless deers wandering about. Entry fee is 300 yen

Full of shops along the way. Got a lot of different items and souvenirs to buy. Also have many street foods to try. Such as oysters, dumplings, squids and more. Prepare a lot of money to buy things.

It's really beautiful to visit the town around 3-5 afternoon even though it's a bit crowded. The golden sunset through the torii gate is simply stunning. The classic japanese town with natural deers strolling around is a unique experience.
