Honestly horrific. The atmosphere seems good, but then you’re met with 20+ min of sitting at the table with no one checking on you when you’re one of 5 tables in the whole place. The food, however, was the greatest disappointment of all. The menu wasn’t spectacular to begin with, and with the limited items they have, they couldn’t get even close to edible. The pizzas were nearly entirely burnt. The calzone WAS entirely burnt to a crisp. I actually mean completely black with specks of non burnt dough. NOT EXAGGERATING. I’m not sure how they are okay sending this stuff out of the kitchen. The server felt horrible, despite her limited appearances as it became clear no matter how many times the kitchen “tried” it was just the same awful result. The only meal we ended up paying for (out of multiple attempts and four different orders) was the amatriciana, which was quite literally out of a can then blasted with a handful of salt. Horrific. We asked for some fresh oregano, which they don’t have. The server forgot. When I reminded her after 15 min she brought back dry Italian mix. Clearly they don’t have fresh ingredients. I’m honestly shocked that anyone eats here or that no one working in the restaurant does anything to better the quality of the food. I’m truly shocked.

Waited to my pizza for 30 minutes, the waitress was nice and said she would not charge for the pie because of long wait. Nice, however, the pizza that was supposed to be free came out as dough with tomato sauce. It was a Margarita pizza which is supposed to have a lot of mozzarella on it, it 80% consisted of sauce. I saw other pizzas and it wasn’t like that, I guess if they offer free pizza they make sure it doesn’t have a lot of necessary ingredients. They didn’t even brink the napkins or cutlery, just empty table with pizza and water lol, very nice. The waitress really tried to make up for everything but at the end of the day-food is bad. I saw other people complaining and one man spitting his pizza out. I guess, there really is a problem. Nice atmosphere, therefore, would only recommend for drinks.

Great spot for drinks and pizza. The wait staff are all helpful and quick with service. The pizzas are nice and great for sharing. We enjoyed the Italian Stallion, Meatball and Arugula pies. When we dined there some appetizers were out of stock already but there are some other tasty choices. Nice spot for a delicious meal

Always great for pizza, pasta, and refreshing cocktails!! Went for an early dinner at 4:00pm and they were already plenty of people seated. Unfortunately the rooftop was closed, but that's okay since it was a bit too hot to be outside. Cooled down with the Purple Rain cocktail was was nice and refreshing!

Great pizza joint right in the hearth of JC! Great interior, really nice Italian-style pizza (“14 1/2” is the best). Service might be better(you might end up asking for water, waiting for 20 min for a beverage etc).

If only the food was as good it's aesthetic. Do NOT eat here. Pictured is their $15 single portion of what they consider gnocchi. I make pasta sauce better than this and I'm not even Italian. It tasted like jarred sauce, and even worse the gnocchi was horrible. Due their incredibly thin sauce and overly large pieces of gnocchi, all you taste (and chew for like 2 minutes a piece) is flour. Initially I was mad the portion size was so small for $15 but after the first bite I glad. WE didn't even finish it as in 2 people. 2 people, it was that bad!!! Worst part is, the food came out legit 4 minutes after I ordered it. At least try to make it seem like you made me something fresh. Our whole dining experience lasted about 25 minutes. Got an aperol spritz ($12) that was decent but was finished after 4 sips because of how small the glass was. Lastly, we got a margherita pizza to go. To no surprise it was horrible. Got through two pieces before we threw the rest out.

This place was disappointing. First off the whole place smelled like wet dog for some reason. Also the right most TV at the bar is apparently stuck on channel 7 and they are unable to change it so enjoy wheel of fortune instead of the baseball game. The calamari app was under seasoned and very small for 16 dollars The pizza I’m struggling to call average. The cook and dough were fine, the sauce needed salt and the meatballs were very inconsistent. Some were huge slices and some very small, and very sparse with the cheese. There’s much better bars and much better pizza nearby.

We tried some appetizers and drinks. I was impressed by the Rosted potates and beetroot in the salad but the fried calamari was average. Overall it was a 50-50 need to visit again to try some main course dishes.

It’s a hit or miss. Sometimes the service and pizza are great, but sometimes you could be waiting an hour or more for pizza that you can’t even customize. But their meatballs are great

Awesome store front on a hipster city street. Atmosphere fits the vibe of the area…rustic, hipster, sheik. Went for lunch at 12:15 pm shortly after they opened, several empty tables clearly visible to everyone in our party of 4, website says walk ins welcomed when available. The waitress offered several suggestions on pizza selection and pairings for appetizers. Pizza selections were amazing, went with traditional margarita and a little wild with the devils haircut, both on point along with a paired appetizer of meatballs. Overall great spot and cool neighborhood, would recommend, thought the price point was good as well, definitely a Brooklyn NYC vibe without the expensive tolls coming in from the Jersey side.

Great place. Good service and ambiance. Lovely rooftop and they definitely know how to party. First time here but not the last. I just wish the service would be better. Our waitress forgot our food, drinks and us over 6 times. Even after standing in front of her for nearly 25 minutes waiting for a drink. She literally forgot our drinks. Various times did we order and she 100% had no clue what we ordered but had the nerve to say I charged you for it but it NEVER showed up. Of it weren't because we liked the place I would never ever return. Service is key and this was horrible in that regard. I do NOT blame the whole staff just this one individual who shouldn't be there if she can't manage it

Amazing pizza!! The drinks were alright but we got the arugula pizza and it really hit the spot in terms of flavor, freshness, and overall taste. I highly recommend this place if you’re craving a delicious summer pizza with a cold drink.

Went with my mom for brunch. Everything was okay! I got the Pangea which is just some scrambled eggs, a salad, and fingerling potatoes. My mom got the eggplant parm. The only thing that we didn’t like was the Three Trees Salad. It had a very bitter flavor, I think from the arugula and the radicchio, and there wasn’t any dressing.

The food is excellent, but portions are on the small side. Excellent service, waitress kept checking in on us. One dish, however, didn’t come to the table until everyone else was done and we asked about it. Ambiance is good

Stopped by Porta on a weekday night for a light meal and had a great time. The place has a nice, indoor biergarten vibe, has exceptionally warm and hospitable servers, and great food/drinks as well. We had the Crispy Chicken Lemon Cutlets (huge portion size and delicious, and the lemon nicely complements the slightly dry chicken pieces) and the Garlic Oil Pasta (amazing flavor). Overall, had a great time and i look forward to being back for more! UPDATE: Went for lunch this time. The Formaggi offered an eclectic mix of cheese, which was great. The Cacio e Pepe was fantastic, and the Pomodoro was good but felt a tad bland (adding seasoning can help). Lars and the Real Girl was excellent as well. Overall, still as good as before. I highly recommend it!

I made a reservation for 6 in hopes to have a lunch on a rooftop with church members but they did not open the rooftop for few reasons. They instead offered us few meals for free of chage which made all of us smailey ;) Well furnitured for large and small groups. Very friendly service with good italian dishes which include pizza and pasta. We had a good time for few hours. Definitely go back to try other dishes.

Great venue, good drinks. Loving the rooftop vibes in the summer. Food takes a really long time to make. Waiter came and shushed us to wait for the food. For that I am giving 2/5 stars. A shame, because it could be a 5/5.

I was here for lunch and trust me the vibe and food everything lived upto my expectations! I really liked the rustic ambience. We ordered Cacio e pepe and Love and Mercy. The spaghetti was Al dente, I prefer it to be well cooked. The pizza was delicious to bits - the sauce was flavorful. I got their smith and bourbon which was pretty okay. This is a great place to come with your family or a big group of friends not ideal for a date setup. The service was really slow but overall we had a good time! Definitely going back here again!

Local Pizza and Italian style eatery with a selection of drinks and drink specials. Partnered with the excellent Carton for a beer unique to the spot. Food is excellent. Beer menu (besides Carton and Kane) could use a bit more Craft and less macro brew, and the bar selection isn’t huge, but these are quibbles. Offers a rooftop option for seating. Food photo won’t post for some reason

Every year, I come down here to get my taxes done, and we always find a new place out here in the area to eat. This year, we chose Porta. I've never been here before or heard of it. I just happened to see it this time around and said ok let's try it! The menu is different from what I have seen at an Italian restaurant. It was a little pricey, but it's not an everyday thing, so ok! The server was nice, and the atmosphere was well lit. The decor was different, but creative. It looked like it might have been an apartment building from back in the day, and they decided to keep some of the apartment doors with the apartment number still on them. Pretty cool! We decided to go with what we knew, which was pizza. There were other choices, but I wasn't too familiar with those dishes. We got a meatball pizza and another one that was like almost a veggie one, I can't remember the name. The meatball pizza was good, but the "meatballs" were actually flat pieces of meat. I've never seen a meatball like that, but it still tasted ok. The other pizza was actually pretty good. They are like a small pizza size, so we ordered 2 pies for 3 of us. We still had left over, so it was good for our party. I would recommend if you want to explore new flavors and decor choices! However, ask for ice with your water, I am not a fan of room temp water when eating a meal.

I recently visited Porta on a Saturday for brunch to celebrate my friend's birthday. 🎂 The ambience is fantastic. Porta's space is massive and the bar up front is fantastic. Plus there's plenty of seating throughout the restaurant, especially towards the back. Our waitress was extremely professional and very friendly and attentive. The food and drinks were all superb. Now I would've given Porta five stars but unfortunately it took about an hour and a half to get all of our orders. I'm not sure why that was the case but our waitress did the best she could to get our orders. Finally I didn't want to give Porta less than 4 stars because they apologized for the delay, resulting in a discount on our tab. That was very very considerate and professional of them. I'll definitely come back since I feel it was an "off day".

We ordered a margherita and white betty (I think) pizza, and the bib salad. Everything was just okay. The crust on the pizza is great, but the white pizza was SO DRY, and the red sauce on the margherita I'm fairly certain was just straight san marzano tomato sauce from the can! It needed AT LEAST a little hit of salt. The pizza could be so good, just missing salt, some finishing herbed olive oil, and even distribution/more cheese.

I came for an early dinner with my brother and his girlfriend. They both enjoy this place and it was my first time. I liked thr atmosphere and ambiance walking in. We were seated pretty quickly and the staff was nice. I ordered a pizza for myself and shared some kind of garlic bread item with my company. Everything was delicious, I would come eat here again. I definitely want to try one of their cocktails as well next time, it sounded good from the description.

I can tell you one thing, I know a pizza is good, when I eat the crust. The pizza was absolutely delicious. I ordered the 14 1/2 and my friend ordered a vegan pie. We both devoured our pizzas to the end, including the crust! I also loved my cocktail, the Free Fallin’. Absolutely delicious! Only reason why I’m giving 4 stars is because although I felt for the 2 guys working the rooftop alone, they did forget to put a drink in for me, and then it took a while to get the check. Other than that, we loved it!

Came here on a whim at the end of a long day with a few friends - we ordered 2 pies and the meat lover's pizza was incredibly delicious! The service was good, friendly staff and the pizza were very well made. Decent prices for food and drinks, great place for a work event, family gathering, catching up with friends or date night!

A very good place is Jersey city downtown to have good woodfire pizza and beer. The ambience and the vibe of the place is very nice and they provide rooftop seating as well. The menu is different in the rooftop seating as they do not serve pasta there. We ordered the cocktails here which were cheap and decent. Do visit.

Great spot!! Be fever on a Friday night without reservations and it wasn’t bad. We got in super fast or food to 15 to 20 minutes so it wasn’t bad. It was super crowded in there yet the server was super attentive to us. The mozzarella itself was amazing and the drinks are great. We were barhopping, so we didn’t I grab more food, but everything looked and smelled great in there. It’s also in the perfect location to go to surrounding bars nearby .

Has been a mainstay of Jersey City for a good time and fantastic vibes for years now. Still great food and just downright great quality in everything they serve. I feel like the meatballs and mozzarella are just too good. Egg Plant Parmigiana is very good. I’ve tried almost everything here - just about every thing is incredible. Portions are getting smaller though understandably if you have a bigger appetite go for Large versions.

As a wedding photographer / filmmaker I LOVE shooting at Porta in Jersey City. Its a beautiful wedding venue, with unique backdrops, delicious food and great staff. I love how close it is to the skyline & liberty state park for photos and downtown JC for urban shots and murals. If you're thinking about booking your wedding here, stop thinking and DO IT!!!

Porta is the perfect restaurant in downtown Jersey City to bring your family, friends, or your date. Been here a handful of times and will continue to come back. While their pizzas are thin crust, the sauce is tasty and a pie is easy to finish - depending how hungry you are. The brunch menu is a bit limited despite having a vegan, vegetarian, and non-veg pizza options. There were no “true” veggie or chicken pizzas. The elevator is broken and has been for sometime. Harder for people with disabilities to make it down to the restroom or up to the rooftop. Overall, the service is excellent and food is prepped quickly.

Had a great time at porta today. Sat at the rooftop for some drinks and pizza. The drinks were great and the pizza was even better! Highly recommend for a good time.

Hip and Happening place, for rooftop and dining. The food is on the spot, if you are a cheez lover do try that mozzarella with bread. Check the schedule for live music. Lively place to host a party. Drinks can be better but overall 👍

  • 2/5 Arun G. 2 years ago on Google
We ordered three pizzas when we went to sit at the rooftop for lunch service. Our bartender was friendly but our food took forever to come. They brought out two of the three pizzas and the third one came it 15mins after. It came to us uncut also and when we asked the waiter for a pizza cutter she said we don’t have one and smiled at us. She gave us a fork and knife to cut our pizza into slices (look at the picture). Maybe the service at the rooftop is not up to par but for Pizza in JC, there’s better places to go.

Pretty good pizza but lackluster pastas. Stopped by for brunch to grab some food prior to hitting the gym. The service was weird and disinterested but I guess the job got done which is fine with me. Meatballs dish came out first and they were excellent. Good size too, quite filling. Then the Margherita pizza arrived which was cooked perfectly and big enough for one and a half persons. I thought the sauce could use a little more punch but it’s discrete flavors were still good. The pasta dish came last and it was bland. It tasted like they boiled the pasta and threw it in a bowl. I could make better at home with some packaged pasta and that’s not a good sign. Get any of the pizza, skip the pasta.

Porta is a classic for a reason. The food is incredible. Specifically, the Summer Betty is the best pizza I’ve had (if you like goat cheese!) You can’t have a bad meal here. It’ll probably cost a pretty penny but it’s worth it. My only criticism is the mixed drinks - they tend to be overly sweet so I try to stick with wine.
